Mick Dunn, Rapid Relief – Flood relief meeting (6 March)

0:00Welcome back to Rural Queensland and I bend over with you this morning and on the 18th of March the Rapid relief team is putting an event for farmers impacted by the floods in Northwest Queensland And they need Farmers and graces to register Livestock producers Who registered a come along will get a bag or more depending on their livestock of XL are eight pellets and it's a great chance obviously to get off the farm have a barbecue talk to others There's a lot going on there at the moment a lot of water being pushed around Mick Dunn joins me this morning and the Rapid relief team is keen to try and get these registration numbers happening Mick good morning. Thank you so much for being with us Thanks for having us on bed This is a really great initiative and so important Trying to get farmers though to who have been devastated to come force to Julia Creek to connect

1:02Um, I mean you you want to do 201 ton bulk of bags of cuddle pellets Um, if farmers register it's important to try and get the message out there that they actually it's okay You can come forth you can say you need help it's available Yeah, that's right Ben Farmers community connect is really about bringing together people who love to help farmers with farmers who need help and There's a lot of it goes goes on across Australia Lastly growing Victoria Distributing fencing water people have lost their fences to the fire impacts there And we know that some you know if farmers don't need to look at this as a A hand out to hand up and some to help them and support them in their road to recovery Um, this is just 37th event for RRT And these farmers community connect and you know, Julia Creek has been a melting pot There's obviously more water going through there at the moment and a lot of rain in northern Australia Um, how are the people on the ground like you just talked about Victoria and the tragedies of the bush fire It's like when they're there and and just to give people an idea how they've ever stated are they and how long was the recovery?

2:09Yeah, look it's a long road. It's an overwhelming road Um, and really that's what this is about to make a tangible donation of something that'll make a difference We can't fix their problem obviously Um, I had a woman say to me yesterday look just knowing that the support is coming Means I can get up tomorrow morning and keep going Um, so we do understand it's tough um mentally And um, that's that's what we're saying to farmers just come out and have a good morning out You'll go away feeling a lot better and you'll have some good quality Uh, pellets for your carves We came to Julia Creek about six weeks ago just to see ourselves. Yeah, uh, the situation there and We found it not just crazy as shopkeepers everywhere is kind of feeling the effect in their own way and people are very resilient in rural communities But there's just a sort of underlying sense that people have I'm getting to the end of their tether Farmers will never wish the rain away, but um, you've had a lot of it So yeah, hopefully this is some good support in very timely R-R-T global dot org is the website um, this is a charity um and

3:13It's obviously R-R-T support front line workers and emergency services by providing food donations are the resources But they will be a mackentire park via the Julia Creek corner in a road between 7 a.m. And 12 p.m. On Wednesday the 8th the 18th of March now grazes and livestock producers Can register go to rrt global dot org it's all there for more information and this is their 37th Farmer community connect event and it's a hand up not a hand out And that's the big thing people. It's not you know, no one's judging you This is actually to help to make it difference and you've got 200 one-ton bulk of bags of cattle pellets to registered farmers that goes a long way to help calves Um, and obviously, you know people but you need the register So if you're there and you're a bit concerned What Bobby going on as well, Nick.
