The New York Metz trimmed their spring training roster on Thursday by optioning infielder Ronnie Mauricio and pitcher Joey Gerber to triple A Syracuse. They also reassigned pitchers Brandon Woodell and Mike Bauman to minor league camp. These moves clear space as the team finalizes its opening day lineup. Managers believe Francisco Lindor will return from Hamat surgery in time for the start of the season, reducing the need for Mauricio at shortstop. The 24-year-old showed promise this spring with a strong batting line and solid defense, but the Metz prioritize every day playing time for his growth. Team leader Carlos Mendoza explained that with the infield healthy, Mauricio needs regular reps in the minors to build consistency.
