Mets Bring Back Lovelady, Hagenman's Injury Impacts Pitching Depth

The New York Mets have brought back left-handed reliever Richard Lovelady for the fourth time in the past nine months. They claimed him off waivers from the Washington Nationals on Saturday. This yoyo relationship started when they first signed him as a free agent, last June. Lovelady has bounced around before, after a short stint, the Mets designated him for assignment, but he resigned days later. He became a free agent again after the season, and joined on a split contract, only to get designated once more. The nationals grabbed him then, until they let him go this week. His big league time with the Mets totals ten innings over those stints, where he gave up seven earned runs. He did much better in Triple A Syracuse, posting a 2.08 ERA in 17 and one-third innings there. The Mets opened a spot on their 40-man roster, because right-handed Justin Hageman fractured a rib in his last outing on March 5.

1:00He's expected to miss at least the first two months. Manager Carlos Mendoza called it a significant injury that will keep Hageman's sideline for a while.
