Metro West rail installation begins at Sydney Olympic Park

7News Just In

About this episode

Metro West has begun installing rail lines along its 24-kilometre driverless train route, with 5,000 tonnes of steel being lowered 27 metres below ground at Sydney Olympic Park station. The 60-kilometre rail network will connect Westmead to Hunter Street in the CBD via Sydney Olympic Park and the Inner West, reducing travel time to 22 minutes. The project won't be completed until 2032, with Sydney Olympic Park station being the only one across the network to feature four platforms to handle major entertainment events.
