Men Plead Guilty to Violent Protest at Asylum Seeker Hotel

0:00On March 23rd, two men have pleaded guilty to violent disorder at a protest outside a hotel housing asylum seekers in Ebbing Essex. Sean Thompson, 38, and Luke Fleming, 21, admitted using or threatening unlawful violence near the Bell Hotel on July 17th. The case came before Kelm's Ford Crown Court. The unrest stemmed from summer protests there, triggered by a migrant resident charged and later imprisoned for sexual offenses. It began as a peaceful gathering turned chaotic, with crowds hurling fireworks, eggs, and other objects at police and the building. Essex police reported at least eight officers hurt that night amid the disorder. Video showed protesters pelting officers with projectiles, escalating tensions quickly. Thompson also confessed earlier to punching and damaging a police vehicle during the incident. Both men, from nearby areas, were granted bail and await sentencing at a future hearing.
