Mega Edition: Jes Staley And His Dramatic Fall Due To His Relationship With Epstein (3/15/26)

About this episode

The downfall of Jes Staley traces back to his long-running professional and personal relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, which resurfaced publicly years after Epstein’s crimes became widely known. While serving as CEO of Barclays, regulators began scrutinizing the extent to which Staley had been transparent about the relationship, including email contact that continued after Epstein’s 2008 conviction. Staley initially characterized Epstein as a limited professional acquaintance, but subsequent disclosures—particularly emails referring to Epstein as a “trusted friend”—undermined that account and raised concerns about candor and judgment at the highest levels of the bank.

In 2021, UK regulators concluded that Staley had mischaracterized the nature of his ties to Epstein, leading to his forced resignation from Barclays and a formal investigation into whether he had misled the board and regulators. The episode effectively ended Staley’s career at the top tier of global banking and later followed him into litigation, including a lawsuit by JPMorgan Chase, where he had previously worked and overseen the Epstein relationship. Staley has argued that institutions used him as a scapegoat for broader failures, but the reputational damage proved decisive: his association with Epstein became inseparable from questions of credibility, oversight, and accountability—turning a once-powerful banking executive into one of the most prominent professional casualties of the Epstein scandal.

President Barack Obama. Virginia, we are counting on you. Republicans want to steal enough seats in Congress to raid the next election and wield unchecked power for two more years. But you can stop them by voting yes by April 21st. Help put our elections back on a level playing field and let voters decide not politicians. Vote yes by April 21st. Paid for by Virginians for fair elections. Paid for by Virginians for fair elections.

Jess Staley has been an ongoing topic of discussion on this podcast for quite some time. Now, I said earlier that I figured he would be out by no later than the end of this year, and if it wasn't for coronavirus, I honestly think Staley would have already been gone. But today we have a new article from the Financial Times talking about how Barclays is reshuffling its top ranks with Jess Staley heading out the door, being the top thing they have on their minds. Because they understand that this is not going to be able to go on from much longer, having Jess Staley as the man over there is not going to be sustainable. As this case gets going, the trial of Gillian Maxwell gets cracking, people start talking. Jess Staley's name is bound to be mentioned. And Barclays is trying to get ahead of that right now. Remember they said,

oh yeah, the Jess Staley isn't going out. He's not going to leave. We're not getting rid of Jess Staley. Remember they talked about how people in there were people behind the scenes that were backing him. And I told you it was all BS. Well, it was all BS. This is what happens in the boardroom. These are the sort of games that these people play. They'll tell you one thing, even when they know another thing is coming down the pipe because it's all about protecting that stock price. And I can't, you know, that's the way it goes. That's how it works in those boardrooms. But anybody thinking that Jess Staley was not a proverbial dead man walking as far as his time at Barclays has not been paying attention. Even Jess Staley with all of his wiggling off of the hook ability has nowhere to go when it comes to this situation. He is against it, right? It is not good for him. The information that has come out just the little bit of information we know

about their relationship is not a good look for Jess Staley. And now we know that in the Virgin Islands, they're looking at all of the financials. And you have to think that the prosecution in New York is also doing the same thing. So Barclays sees the writing on the wall here, folks, and they're starting to prepare for the eventual exit of Jess Staley. Let's jump into this article from the financial times and see what they have to say. This article was authored by Steven Morris, headline, Barclays reshuffles top ranks with Jess Staley's succession in mind. Two senior lieutenants given roles at investment bank, putting them in direct competition to replace outgoing chief executive. So they're saying it right here at financial times now. Jess Staley is an outgoing chief executive. He's not somebody that has any staying power. His time has come. And if it

wasn't for this coronavirus outbreak, this pandemic, then Staley would have already been gone in my opinion. Barclays is under assault from inside forces and outside forces over Jess Staley and his role with Jeffrey Epstein. And the heat is obviously becoming way too hot. Barclays has reshuffled its highest ranks as the internal contest to succeed chief executive, Jess Staley gathers pace, naming two of his top lieutenants to senior roles overseeing the investment bank. And that's pretty, pretty usual, right? When you're getting ready to have a successor or a situation where somebody who is leaving a job has underlings underneath them who are going to be vying for the job, you start to see those people get a little bit more responsibility, right? They might come to a couple extra meetings or they might be sitting in with the big boss or whatever it may be. But you understand when you're in a corporate environment

when the writing is on the wall. And Jess Staley most certainly knows his time is coming. On Wednesday, the British lender named Talib Shah, its new chief risk officer, after the incumbent CS Venk attack, Krishnan, known as Venkat, made global head of markets overseeing Barclays trading operations according to a separate internal memo seen by the financial times. So we got Talib Shah as the new chief risk officer after Venkat was made the global head of markets. So you're seeing the shuffling go on, right? You're seeing these voids be filled as they're made. And it looks like Barclays is going to look to replace Staley from an internal method. Not going to go outside and bring somebody else in from a broad or anything like that. It looks like they're going to stick with somebody that's already at the company,

which is probably a good idea, right? A seamless transition. The boards probably familiar with them, etc, etc. And again, remember, during this pandemic, a lot of these financial institutions are, you know, they're very cautious about making changes because the implications that has in regards to their stock prices. So they want as much normalcy as possible. They want stability. And unfortunately for Barclays, that just is not going to occur with Jess Staley. Meanwhile, Paul Compton was promoted to global head of banking, managing the other half of the investment bank, which includes M&A advisory and capital markets. So Paul Compton was also moved on up. And now he's in charge of the global head of banking. And he's, you know, it's big time stuff there, right? Capital markets, M&A advisory. So, you know, he has a big time, a big time role now, Mr. Paul Compton. And I would not be surprised

to see either Paul Compton or Venkat be named the successor within the next couple of months. Mr. Venkat, Krishnan and Mr. Compton, both former colleagues of Mr. Staley at JP Morgan in New York, are now on a par as co-presidents of Barclays bank, the unit that houses the group's non-UK consumer operations. So again, look, these guys worked with Staley at JP Morgan. Now there's no indication that they had anything to do with Jeffrey Epstein's accounts. I would hope that the investigators would look at that as well, right? Anybody who was at JP Morgan during the time that Jeffrey Epstein was banking with them should be looked at very closely. And their transactions and their accounts should also be looked at very closely because we know that Jeffrey Epstein was using these

banks to wash this money. And we know that Jeffrey Epstein had a bunch of money parked offshore. So it's very important that that is looked into, right? That that path of discovery is searched. This sets them up in direct competition and in contest to succeed, Mr. Staley, who is preparing to step down in the next few years, few years, huh? Okay. Again, I have a hard time believing that Mr. Staley is around for a few years, okay? In fact, I believe that if there's any sort of stabilization in the next couple of months, by the end of the year, we'll see Mr. Staley out and either Venkat or Compton in this role. Australian born, Mr. Compton, who joined Barclays' chief

operating officer in 2016 was seen as the leading internal candidate to succeed, Mr. Staley, when he was given more responsibility after the former investment bank chief, Tim Throsby, was fired in March of 2019. So this has been ongoing for a while, right? Compton has been working his way up the ladder within Barclays corporate structure. He has been building up his profile. He has taken on more responsibility and he is now in the running to become the man at Barclays. Mr. Venkat's elevation on Wednesday appears to level the playing field. People familiar with the matter said, so now you had Compton who was promoted in 2016, given more responsibility, was being groomed for the position almost and now you have Venkat getting promoted to this other position and he is now also thrusted his hat into the ring for the job.

In March, the financial times reported that Barclays was preparing to start the search for a new chief executive after Mr. Staley, 63, said he privately expects to leave the group by the end of 2021. However, he may opt to stay on longer to guide the bank through the coronavirus crisis, a person close to him said, boy, these guys get all kinds of lifelines all the time, right? Jess Staley should be out on his ass speaking to investigators. Instead, he's using the coronavirus as a life preserver to keep him afloat at work. What a wacky ass year, huh folks? I swear to God, I swear we must be in some sort of alternate reality. Mr. Staley's controversial championing championing of the investment bank has been the most closely watched strategic decision of his five-year tenure. It put him at odds with activist investor Edward Brampson, who started building a stake in Barclays in spring 2018 and has

subsequently agitated for the trading unit to be dramatically shrunk and for Mr. Staley to step down. And we all know Edward Brampson on this show now, right? Edward Brampson is the guy who through Sherborn owns about 6% of Barclays shares and he's been pushing hard as hell to get Jess Staley to step down or to be fired over his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. And as far as Brampson's concerned, Staley is really, really, really bad for business and not the kind of guy that you want in control of your company and with your money, right? Recently, Mr. Staley received a boost from his strategy as a surgeon earnings from the trading arm of the investment bank helped offset billions in COVID-related loan loss provisions at the retail and credit card arms. Yeah, you know, his earnings from the trading arm of the investment bank, huh? That means is all the disgusting

scuzzball trillionaires, billionaires, millionaires, who are moving their disgusting money like the Finson files has shown us through these banks have been popping off during coronavirus. That's basically what it says to me. An insider said the promotions were designed for both men to prove their metal and revenue generating roles over the next few years. It is shaping up to be one of the bleakest periods for European banking since the financial crisis as lenders wrestle with the fallout from the coronavirus crisis and the growing dominance of Wall Street in global investment banking. Look, I am not a fan of investment banking anywhere and that's rather obvious at this point, right? But Wall Street is the home to the biggest crooks in the world, in my opinion. And not everybody on Wall Street, right? And not everybody in banks. I'm not talking about low level bank tellers or middle management. You're running a

banking franchise, you know, you have yourself one bank, you're the manager of, you're not privy to this shit. You're not somebody who's in these board meetings. You're not somebody who's meeting with Jeffrey Epstein to move his money. This is about the people at the very top, just like it's about the people at the very top at the FBI and the CIA, all of these people, all of these people do not care about any of us and it is rather obvious from the way they conduct themselves. President Barack Obama. Virginia, we are counting on you. Republicans want to steal enough seats in Congress to raid the next election and wield unchecked power for two more years, but you can stop them by voting yes by April 21st. Help put our elections back on a level playing field and let voters decide not politicians. Vote yes by April 21st.

Let's go places. Mr. Venkat and Mr. Compton are being officially charged with driving stronger collaboration across the corporate and investment bank. The memo said essentially cross selling more financial

products to Barclays roster of international clients. So it looks like they're like they want to diversify here a little bit, right? They want to cross sell some more products. They want to make sure that they're tapping every single drain at their disposal to make sure they're bringing in every last dollar possible. That's what these banksters do, right? And that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the criminal conduct that takes place at the high levels and inside of the oversight room. To make way for the new Paris elevation, Stephen Denton's role has been downgraded to deputy head of markets and Joe McGrath, who was named Global Head of Banking last year, is being moved to Chairman of Investment Banking. He will continue to oversee asset co-al allocation and chair and client conflict committee of the division according to the memo. So all of this stuff is happening, folks. Remember,

because of Jess daily and his relationship with Epstein. If Jess daily never had that relationship with Epstein, he would have an iron clad path to keeping this job and steering the ship through the coronavirus pandemic. But he does not have that. What he has is a cloud hanging over his head, a cloud of suspicion over his role with Jeffrey Epstein's criminal enterprise, and also as Jeffrey Epstein's money manager. Mr. Staley stood in the memo on Wednesday. These changes I am making to to remits on the executive committee are designed to develop what is an already exceptional senior leadership team, as well as adding to the experience of the individuals taking on these new opportunities. So what we're seeing here, folks, are the two men, Mr. Venkat and Mr. Compton, who will be vying to replace the void left by Jess Staley when he eventually leaves.

And again, I can't see it being much longer. We're in October now. Today is October 1st. I cannot see it being much longer. I would say by the end of the year or early 2021 at the latest, the second that they feel like they can stabilize things over the coronavirus pandemic, that's when you can expect Jess Staley to be shown the door. If you'd like to contact me, you can do that at Bobbi Kapuchi at protonmail.com. That's B-O-B-B-Y-C-A-P-U-C-C-I at protonmail.com. All of the links that go with this episode can be found in the description box. All right, everybody. I'll be back later on. I hope you all have a great day. What's up, everyone? And welcome back to the Epstein Chronicles. Jess Staley's legal team has hit back against JP Morgan after JP Morgan has tried to place all of the blame over their relationship with Jeffrey Epstein directly on the shoulders of Jess Staley.

Well, as you can imagine, Jess Staley is not too happy about all of that. Meanwhile, the rest of us are kicking back and enjoying watching Jeffrey Epstein's pals eat each other alive. And hopefully, during this feeding frenzy within the courtroom, some of that red meat is exposed. Today, we have an article from the Guardian and the headline is Jess Staley's lawyers hit out at Slanderous Attacks by JP Morgan. This article was authored by Collina McCordoff. Lawyers working for Jess Staley have accused JP Morgan of Slanderous Attacks against the ex-Barclay's boss, saying allegations that he aided sex trafficking operations run by the late billionaire. You mean pedophile, don't you, Collina? Jeffrey Epstein? We're baseless, but serious. You know what cracks me up? They're baseless, huh? So how do you explain away all of the emails? How do you explain the over 1000 emails shared between you and Jeffrey Epstein? How do you explain

any of that? How do you explain the fact that you were paling around with him on his island? Even after Jeffrey Epstein and his jerk-off face was convicted of crimes against children. Jess Staley chose to still pal around with his dude. So how's he going to explain that? You know, it's always Slander. It's always this that the other thing. But none of them ever go to court and sue over it, right? They never want to get to discovery. Which one of these scoundrelass scumbags have ever wanted to get to discovery? And the ones that did get to that point, how did it end up for them? Staley's lawyer made the comments in a Manhattan district court filing as he urged the judge to give his client more time to review thousands of documents related to JP Morgan's lawsuit against them. And sever that case from two lawsuits lodged against the US bank over its alleged role in aiding Epstein's crimes. So the strategy here for both sides is to blame everybody. But take no responsibility

for your own actions. That goes for the bank and for Jess Staley. Because remember, Jess Staley wasn't the big boss of the bank. He had bosses over him. What was Jamie Diamond doing? Too busy counting his millions, swimming through the billions like Scrooge McDuck? I mean, look, if you're the boss of an operation, the buck has to stop with you. But a guy like Jamie Diamond, who was all powerful in his industry, never mind his company, would have you believe that it was all on Jess Staley and Diamond never saw an email, never got a report, and never knew anything about Jeffrey Epstein or what Epstein was up to. That's what Jamie Diamond would have you believe. And that's what JP Morgan's trying to pitch here. They're saying that it was all Jess Staley. They had nothing to do with it. In fact, they were victimized by Staley as well. And because they were victimized, they're going to recoup that money that they paid them. Now that's their plan. Is it going to work out how they wanted to work out in the end?

I'm not so sure, especially considering some of the information we're getting today about a cache of tapes that have been found. And we're going to talk about that a little bit more at the end of this article. But the evidence keeps piling up. And I don't think any of the parties involved here are going to be able to get away with claiming ignorance. Somebody's going to have to answer for what happened here. And somebody's going to have to answer for the enabling of Jeffrey Epstein financially for all of these years. And if JP Morgan has their way, it's going to be Jess Staley who takes the fall. The filings argued that the breakneck pace of the case schedule, which is set for trial on October 23rd, was unnecessary and prejudicial and would give Staley grossly insufficient time to defend himself. I mean, really, bros had decades to come up with an excuse. Bros had decades to come up with a plausible deniability plan. But in all those years, this is the best he's come up with. Do you really think pushing it back past October

is going to make anything any different? The facts are still going to be the facts. And the fact is Jess Staley was hanging out with Jeffrey Epstein and profiting from Jeffrey Epstein's criminal enterprise. The allegations against him are baseless but serious. Mr. Staley is accused of aiding and abetting Jeffrey Epstein, one of the most notorious criminals in recent American history. So what's not factual about any of that? Staley's lawyer, Brendan Sullivan, said in the document, adding that the claims were also slanderous and potential damages are astronomical. Well, let's get to it. Stop with all of the nonsense. Stop with the winging. If it's slanderous, sue them. Two lawsuits aimed at JP Morgan claim Staley, who previously worked for the US bank, observed victims personally, including visiting young girls at Epstein's apartments, and exchanged 1,200 emails with the late financier again with the financier,

Dear Guardian, Jeffrey Epstein was a sex offender, a child molester, and a pedophile save the financier's shit. That included photos of young women in seductive poses and referring to women by the name of Disney princesses. Please explain that, Jess Staley. We are all waiting for your explanation. I'm sure you have a logical explanation why you were trading emails with a human trafficker talking about Eastern European girls as Disney characters. I'm sure there's a logical explanation for all of it. Those lawsuits have been brought by the US Virgin Islands, where much of the abuse is said to have taken place, at a home owned by Epstein on a private island, and also by a woman known only as Jane Doe No. 1. And we don't know who the survivor is here who is party to this lawsuit or filed their own lawsuit, but you have to think that it's somebody that had a lot of time down there on the island, somebody that has an intimate knowledge of the

workings of Jeffrey Epstein's criminal enterprise, and it's never a bad thing to have somebody like that as a witness or somebody bringing a suit, somebody that has intimate knowledge of the crimes that were taking place. But the US bank is suing Staley in turn, saying he should be made liable for any penalties the US bank may face as a result of the lawsuits. It is also trying to claw back millions of dollars he was paid while working for JP Morgan. So JP Morgan's trying to put all of the blame on Jess Staley. That's what all of this is about finding a fall guy. It's always about finding a fall guy, right? Who can we throw to the masses as the red meat? And Jess Staley, unfortunately, you've been voted off the island. The stakes could hardly be higher for Mr. Staley, Sullivan said in the filing, which is asking the court to delay the trial until March 2024. Disproving these false and highly publicized allegations is of paramount importance to him.

Yet, this court scheduling rulings have severely prejudiced his ability to do so. The lawyer said, however, a JP Morgan spokesperson argued against the call to separate Staley's case from its own, saying he was, inextricably, linked to these cases, it makes no sense to separate him. Jane Doe herself has directly accused him of horrific sexual misconduct, and if true, he must be held accountable. It added, watching JP Morgan and Jess Staley fight like this cracks me up. It's like two people who commit a murder. So that's laughable, huh? JP Morgan talking about holding people to account. Why don't you start in your own boardroom? How about we hold all of you to account, starting with Jamie Diamond and working our way down? Staley developed a relationship with Epstein in 2000 while he was working for JP Morgan's private bank, which handles wealthy clients, and stayed in contact with Epstein for seven years after Epstein was convicted of soliciting

prostitution from a minor in 2008. No such thing as soliciting prostitution from a minor. A minor cannot consent to all of that, so how can it be solicitation for prostitution? What a dumbass law and whatever lawmakers were involved in writing that law down in Florida? They should stand in front of the mirror and repeatedly smack themselves in the face. However, the bankers said their contact started to taper off after he left JP Morgan in 2013. He was appointed chief executive of Barclays two years later, but unexpectedly resigned in November of 2021. Overdraft findings of a UK regulatory investigation into his relationship with the convicted sex offender finally called them what he is in the article, hallelujah guardian. However, a formal challenge by Staley has met the conclusions of that investigation have not yet been released. It's always an ongoing investigation, right? That's gumming up the works. Why can't we get

information about Jeffrey Epstein? Oh, it's an ongoing investigation in the jail. What are you even talking about? Jeffrey Epstein's dead, that lock up is closed down, where four years out almost, what are you even talking about right now? But that's how they roll. That's how they keep things from reaching the public and that's how they keep things from moving in a transparent manner. That is the best cover that they could possibly have for themselves. Oh, this is an ongoing investigation. All right, onto the second part of our episode and the next article, which is relatively short. This is an article from Bro Bible and the headline is cash of secret videos, photos found by Jeffrey Epstein's estate could spark an FBI investigation. This article was authored by Douglas Charles. The Toyota Tundra and Tacoma are built to keep going, blending rugged muscle with precision engineering all supported by Toyota's time-tested legacy of dependability. Let's go places. While his BFF and cohort in crime, Golan Maxwell, wiles away her days in federal prison, Jeffrey Epstein is still making news, despite being dead. I wish he was making real news with all of his buddies getting arrested, but I guess that's never going to happen, huh? Too busy with the Roman-esque political theater that we see playing out all over the country as federal and state lawmakers continue to engage in a bunch of performative political theater. Instead of going after dirty-ass scumbags who enabled

Jeffrey Epstein helped them and in some cases participated. For several years now, there has been much speculation about the existence of a Jeffrey Epstein address book, containing hundreds of names including celebrities and politicians. There's no speculation, there isn't a dress book. That's what the big black book was. There were two of them in fact, so not speculation. In addition to that, Golan Maxwell allegedly admitted that Jeffrey Epstein had secret videos of former US presidents Donald Trump and Bill Clinton. Maxwell herself reportedly also has a secret stash of videotapes. All of that is unconfirmed. A lot of talk about that, but I don't have any concrete evidence to share with you to say, hey, look, we can point to this right here and here is your evidence that this occurred. Do I find it plausible? I do. Do I find it likely? I do. Golan once reportedly told a friend, Christina Oxenberg, Jeffrey and I have video on everyone and it wasn't just that. We heard

from survivors as well that the whole entire operation was wired up for CCTV. So it came from multiple sources and we also heard from the people who set it all up. Remember we heard from the technician who helped set up the security for Epstein? So this has come from multiple sources. The only question has been where are these tapes? Who has them? Why aren't they in the possession of the FBI and why haven't they been used to make more arrests? Those are the questions that any sane person should have just a few of the questions anyway. She did not reveal any of those alleged videos or the address book to authorities before or during her trial in an effort to reduce her prison sentence. Perhaps she was worried she would end up dead like Jeffrey Epstein if she did. Now however, the cat may be out of the bag so to speak and now here's where the actual part of the article that has something worthwhile comes. According to the federal court documents filed by

the US Virgin Islands and shared by inner city press and inner city press is a very solid source for what's going on in the courtrooms in New York, especially when it comes to live coverage of what's going on in those courtrooms. And according to inner city press, Jeffrey Epstein's estate has discovered a cache of photos and videos. So I'm skeptical right off the bat about the estate quote unquote discovering anything considering who the two executors of the estate are. I have my doubts about things being miraculously discovered. But with that said, Conan Indiker should enough to know that if they do have something like that and it could provide a firestorm perhaps for other people, it'll give them the cover that they've always wanted. These two dudes, they just want to make it out of this with a little bit of pocket change when all of a sudden done and not go to prison because they were very, very important pieces of what Epstein had going on as far as his enterprise. We're talking about his in house lawyer and

his right hand man as an accountant. And we're not talking about guys that were hired, you know, out of the back page of the newspaper, we're talking about guys that were with Epstein every step of the way. So one thing I'm damn sure of is that if the executors and the estate has found new evidence of pictures or videos, you better damn well believe Indiker Con will not be on any of those videos or in any of those photographs. The images could be used in an ongoing lawsuit against JP Morgan Chase and Deutsche Bank for allegedly enabling Jeffrey Epstein for providing him with the funds to support his illegal lifestyle, not just that, laundering the money, all sorts of stuff. New York federal judge Jett S. Raycoff wrote in a recent ruling regarding the photos and videos. If during the course of that review, the estate sees a particular recording that appears to contain possible CSAM abusive material of children, it shall promptly stop further review of that

recording and notify the federal bureau of investigation or such other agency or entity as the FBI direct of the recordings existence. No CSAM shall be copied or transmitted to another party except as directed by the FBI or other governmental agency. The videos and photos were discovered after subpoenas were issued by lawyers for one of Jeffrey Epstein's unidentified survivors. So it's relatively interesting to see all of a sudden miraculously. We have videos and photographs that the estate has come into possession of. So we'll see what comes of all of this but certainly not great news for the bank and it's certainly not great news for just daily either and for other people who might have been on that island and who might have participated in the abuse. I'm guessing they're not going to have a good night's sleep tonight knowing that these videos and these photographs might be introduced to the public conversation. All right everybody that's going to do it for this

one. All of the information that goes with the episode can be found in the description box.
