About this episode
Rebecca Ritchie, Head of Wardrobe Opera Australia was the keynote speaker at NSW Industry Day on 14 March 2020. The costumes Rebecca talks about are on the podcast website. The sound quality is taken while sitting in the audience so this is very faint.
Rebecca discussed the process the team works through, bringing the initial sketches to the magical moment when they first appear on stage. From initial design sketches, through budgeting, sourcing fabrics from around the world, discussing with the cutter who determines how the costumes will be made, fittings with the artists and then working with a team of seamstresses to make the costumes. In June, we'll hear from the NSW Industry Day committee and what challenges they face developing these learning days for guild members.
