McVay Eyes Cousins as Rams Backup

McVeigh said Monday the team wants Cousins if they can't lock down Jimmy Garoppolo. McVeigh credits Cousins big time for helping him land the Rams job in 2017. He called him influential and said, Cousins has other teams chasing him. Still, if Garoppolo falls through, Cousins tops the backup list. Fans and analysts are scratching their heads over Cousins, sitting free for nearly a month, with no real bites. He's not a lock to start anywhere, but you think some squad needs a bridge guy or competition at quarterback. The Rams aren't rushing for a vet backup right now. There are only other armistets and Bennett, and McVeigh didn't hype him as the guy. That leaves the door wide open for a cheap deal on Cousins.
