McDermott Retires, Huss Takes Helm at Creighton

0:00On March 23rd, Creighton Bluejays head coach Greg McDermott announced his retirement on Monday after 16 years leading the program. The 61-year-old coach leads with an impressive legacy, including 365 wins, two big-east regular season titles, 11, NCAA tournament appearances, two sweet 16s, and an elite 8 run in 2023. McDermott always put faith, family, and his team at the center, calling Creighton the perfect fit for those values. This season brought challenges with injuries, leading to a 15-win, 17-loss record, the second worst under his watch. Still, he kept the team steady without panicking. Players and fans respected his class and leadership, making him the winningest coach in Creighton history. Before arriving in 2008, he spent nine seasons each, at Northern Iowa and Iowa State, totaling 25 years as a Division I head coach. Alan Huss steps in as the new head coach after a strong two-year stint at High Point where he posted a 56-15 record.
