Bed on Bears fans, another edition of the Chicago Bears podcast coming your way from the love see the love see It's something it is something that the designer Johnny Yurka bitch back in the building. You're glad you're feeling the day my guy I feel great. Yeah, I got no issues whatsoever. Listen, that's a great day. I'm 30 minutes away from being joyous. Oh, here we go Wait a minute. Are you not joyous right now? You're gone. Oh, no, it means work is done And I'll be on my car heading home. Oh, okay, you don't need any any preparation for golf coming up here good kid No, I none whatsoever. I've been doing some stretching and some calisthenics. Yeah, I saw you on the show Yeah, put some roughage in the diet to keep myself regular. I love it. I love it. I absolutely love it We got a lot to get into on today's episode. There's pretty much just one giant topic that everyone is talking about it is Backscrause be being back on the market and should the Chicago Bears get involved in the situation? I think the price would be less expensive as far as what you would have to trade for them. Yeah, I don't think it'd be too first round
Picks now. I don't think anybody's out there really. There's a flurry activity All the people that needed pass rushes when got their pass rushers Jalen Phillips got paid other guys got paid You're running out. I saw Genevieve and clownies name get mentioned and maybe that's the direction that bears want to add and at this point He's a mercenary comes in he rushes the passer. That's what he does for you It's not a bad role. It's a it's a role that he's found a way to flourish and And he's found a way to get himself paid and extend his career and so good for Genevieve and clowny as far as Max Crosby goes I don't know what the price is. Carmen won't give you a first now You know, he calls him damage goods, but the whole world knew he's damaged goods. Yes I think the Baltimore Ravens pull the fast one. I feel they victimize the Raiders and the victimized Max Crosby I hope that the Raiders complain to the league and then the league is forces the Baltimore Ravens to give one of their picks To the Oakland Raiders for Scrooing them. Oh, that's what I think should happen
I mean, I think yeah should happens have been around the league especially with compix stuff. We'll see But here's your works out. Here's your problem. Everybody in the world knows that the Raiders shut him down The final two weeks of the season. He had surgery. Everybody knew what the surgery was none of this was a surprise and for Baltimore all of a sudden arbitrarily just say hey, uh, well, he can't pass the physical no shit No shitty can't pass the fish. No moving yet. He just had surgery It's not healed the timeline takes while you knew that when you brought him into the building So what the hell are you doing? Was that their point to maybe show tell Hey Hendricks and uh, you know, we got this guy But you know if you're willing to accept a little bit less we'll be willing to pay you I'd like to see all communications Between the Baltimore Ravens and the agent of trade uh of Hendricks and all communications between Of the Raiders and that I want to see everything and I'd want to investigate this properly
I love how the Raiders put it out there, right? They didn't say due to Max Crosby failing a physical The trade has been rescinded. They said the Baltimore Ravens backed out of the deal Yeah, it tells you everything that you need to know about how this went down And I hope that the crap of this the tampering period which is what caused this and which caused problems Do you think this leads the end to the legal tampering? I think it should I think it should I think it's absolute crap I think it's garbage Without this you wouldn't had an issue. Yeah, it brought him in that had been excited They would have signed them that have known exactly what they had two first-round picks would have gone to the Oakland Raiders And but it would have been a done deal but because of this I think you had The cost and his people Acting in less than good faith That's a yeah acting in less than good faith and that's problem And that's a problem. I'm hoping that the Raiders can uh, you know, they could rule in the Raiders favor Like say they only trained for one first pick when they had two I think that the rate the Ravens have to forfeit their first round pick to the
To the yeah to the lost Vegas Raiders. Yeah, the Oakland and the Vegas always throws me up Yeah, that would that would be I think it would be a punishment to deter this which may keep the legal tampering period here I don't know with the I'm not going to sit here pretend like I know what the exact need of it is I mean you can agree to a contract with somebody and the offseason and they can pull out Well, again, again, it's it's idiotics. Yeah, the Jats sign nationwide. Yes They signed to whatever contract is sign of two they bring him in The you know, he tests take physical. He takes the physical and they say hey Unfortunately, he didn't pass our physical what we have right and we're gonna fill him on the physical He didn't have surgeries. He didn't have anything You weren't signing a guy that you knew had had a medical procedure before you came in there And you had a crystal clear understanding there was a crystal clear understanding That Max Crosby the number one coveted free agent is recovering from a surgical procedure That is going to take a number of months to recover from and you are not going to get a player
That's a hundred percent healthy the day he walks in the building and it you sign him and from what I heard They got to talk to the doctor that sure the surgery on Max sure and and and that's fine But the point is you were educating they knew they knew a hundred percent that he wasn't gonna be a hundred percent healthy And then they use that as their caveat and the way to slip out of the whole thing. Yeah, and then they go inside the other guy For a lesser deal than the deal they gave without giving a pigs that to me is dirty pool. Yeah, that is dirty pool 100 percent Gidell's got to step in there He's got to make this thing right for the Raiders and the only thing you're going to be able to do if they train him for a first round or a second round Yeah, I think they have to four feet of a Baltimore exit four feet of first round pick for the kind of crap They tried to pull off right there If you if you're the bears and you can get him cheaper eight bears were in these conversations like you said Knowing the situation that Max Crosby had They knew that he was banged up. They knew that that the meniscus surgery has happened
Yeah, if you're the bears and you can get him maybe at the price that you originally offered or even for a little bit less Are you in on Max Crosby coming to Chicago? I mean, I'm actually with the moves they made on I'm in at much less. Yeah Oh much less Yeah, that's where I'm at I mean at much less I'm the first round pick on the table. Fortunately for Max Crosby um Baltimore has You know solid His name. Yeah, that's what they've done. They've solied his name I even though we all know he was injured. Uh, I would still be wanting to trade the 25th pick. Okay, but that's it So you're just going one 20 that is it our first round pick you are getting one pick It's the 25th pick and that is all yeah There's nothing else for the Raiders coming from Chicago bears if you go after them Then you're gonna have to redo some deals You're gonna have to fit fit his money in for this year. You're doing some research and then you're gonna have Yeah, you're gonna have to do some stuff to make it work But yeah, I'd still be interested with one first rounder. Yes I think if if you could find a way to get him for one first rounder york
I look at the guys that they added this week in Devin Bush really like him as a linebacker behind a good defensive line Colby Bryant somebody that they brought in that I think you know has really good balls ball tracking skills and be able to get Don't clip that that's stopped in a weird spot. They'll clip that Has really good ball tracking skills And and I think hey with a defensive line in front of him would be a great guy back there Jalen Johnson Like you said it on the podcast one time and it's something that I've held on to You you went out and got to remain them and you went out and got tj words And if you don't have a defensive line in front of them, it doesn't matter for their lives. Yeah And so they were guys, right? It's so much better all the moves you've made Yeah, listen I think you've put some pieces in here. You've replaced like parts. Yeah, that you've done your hoping guys come in they adapt And they play as well as the guys that have been here You got the safety that's come in Colby Colby, right? You bring him in here. You're hoping he plays as well as brisker ads and his buyer has you're hoping that that happens
You know Went healthy brisker places ass off Went healthy buyer even though he's an older player still played his ass off So you know, you've got a guy that you come in that you think is a little bit better than what you had So he's got to go ahead and do that same thing at the linebacker position the kit from Cleveland You brought him in here, right? You're hoping he's got play. I hope I'm sorry Devin Bush the linebacker. I'm sorry Yeah, Bush is the lineman. I mean the linebacker. Yeah, the lineman. Yeah, Dominus lineman. It's gone. Navell Nivell Nivell Yes, his name Gilligan Yeah, yeah Neville Gilligan whatever his name is got galimore You've got like pieces in you got this galimore kids in that's taking the guy in the middle spot up buildings And whoever You've got your interior three next year. You got Grady You've got this Galimore You've got Dexter. I don't know if Shmer is whether he's inside or outside
um, you know you Is did you sign an outside piece? Not you signed party you re-signed the contagious streets bookers here from From the Texans, but I mean he's a rotational swapping guy back up type of guy Yeah, so I mean you're bringing players in Um, they just have to be better than the players that you had Yeah, and that's not always guaranteed so but if you bring Max Crosby and then you have improved One side the left side usually yeah, and then you make Montez go to the other side Hopefully Montez could be as an effective from the right as he was Effective from the left side when you saw the moves that were made here and you know whether Max Crosby comes or not Did it scream to you bears are going heavy in the draft at defensive lot Yeah, it just screamed to me that they couldn't overpay and couldn't over commit to anything They've identified identified players that they knew they can get at a certain price That they could bring in here and and cost control Along with theoretical talent is the kind of the angle that they've been going for
That's what they've been doing and whether you like it or not you're gonna have the draft You're gonna have to go get whatever you're missing in the draft That's just the fact that's the way it is and so you get a young defensive tackle You get a young pass rush from the outside you get a young safety young corner Whatever you're doing you're looking to get something young As they're coming in you've got four picks to theoretically could be impactful picks You don't have a fit for under this year next year So yeah, you're gonna have to do damage with what you have and you're gonna have to get guys in here to contribute At least on special teams if not being starters. Yeah, I said on Twitter here I feel like this is with the moves that you made this off season to try and add and start to build D.A.'s defense here in his image This is probably Ryan Poles most important draft Because all these moves are solid Kobe Bryant Devin Bush Neville Neville Gallimore But they kind of don't matter if you can't get that pressure on the quarterback They kind of don't matter if you don't have those dogs up front and it's unless you go get a max cross
But it does seem like you're gonna have to find that by the draft. It's the most important draft because it's the next draft It's the one that's upcoming. That's why it's the most important. Yeah last year they hit on offense side of the flip Okay, you don't know what you got with Schmur because he got injured So you hit on the offensive side of the football now you need to hit on the defense side of the football And because it's the one that's upcoming that makes it the most important. That's why it is with uh With the price tag that Nishon right got this weekend Do you are you surprised that the Bears didn't try to bring them back at all leading the league in 5.5 million one year? Yeah, nope not at all I mean they made a decision what they were gonna do when they decided to move on from them not even making them on offer They they were ready to say hey, we appreciate it. We came in. We gave you an opportunity You made the most of your opportunity now let the league in interceptions, right? Yep. How much you can pay? 5.5 million That's not exactly up there behind the upper edge line of corners that are out there I said this I wondered if the league kind of learned from what they went through with Trevon digs remember he had
Lee set the record for pick sixes and led the league in interceptions They gave him 20 million dollars But the rest of the time we were all going he kind of gets cooked a lot in coverage He's he's gotten beat a lot well down the field if you when he gets the pick right if you play corner though You're going to get beat that's the nature of the position You're going to get beat if you play a corner. You got to have a short memory and you got to be able to continue to ball After that. I thought T Higgins like here's the perfect thing. He had great coverage on th Yes, he did it. It didn't matter. He had great coverage on thiggins And if you play the corner position in this league. Yeah, you're going to get beat. Patrick should tank. I beat You know junior. He's been beat General Ramsey has been beat. Yeah, you got guys are going to get beat Then you got to have a short memory. You got to be able to come out. Ramsey almost lost the Superbowl You look at physical skills with ancient right like his physicality and his body type and his body build But that that may be what ultimately ends up holding him back Is that his body type and his body style and his physicality aren't necessarily what you might be looking at out of top flight
Corners in this league and it's a little bit of a knock but he proved everybody wrong now He's getting paid to handsomely five and a half million is more than I made my career Now I know I know it's apples to oranges, but in my totality. Yeah So he's getting paid a decent chunk of change I think people forget that five and a half million dollars still five and a half million now It's going to happen is that state taxes in the city in in the state in New York Because he's making above that threshold He's going to get smacked around a little bit Because they got a graduated income tax got forbid they steal from the people, but they do Um, but so he'll be in for a rude awakening there when five hundred and fifty thousand of that goes through the government Stayed government by the way and that federal government Still for still for four point nine million. Oh, he ain't doing bad. Yeah, it got a four million really You forgot about 37% that goes to Uncle Sam. Oh, that's true, right? Yeah, so 37% of that five point five goes Uncle Sam
And then how much of that ends up going for Social Security? Oh, I know I know what it is seven point two percent up to a hundred and seventy eight thousand dollars Uh-huh, so you really get like three five Oh, yeah Still a race not necessarily not necessarily as beautiful as you think it is is there When Uncle Sam comes beating you over the skull for your money. Well, listen, I'd love to have those problems here You're that's that's the world. I'm trying to live in out here When you look at what we've seen defensively do you like the moves that the bears have made this off season so far Yeah, I think they'd plug some holes. I mean, that's all that they've really done They've plugged some holes holes that they created themselves By deciding not to move on some guys contracts that are here So what they need they need a safety they need a defensive lineman fine They need a rush pass a guy on the edge coming off as a rush a legitimate rush guy They haven't addressed that they need to linebackers because you let you had to make yourself some room for remain Edmonds, so you got yourself a linebacker in here
So how they're doing it's kind of plugging a hold you let receivers go you send receiver Okay, you're plugging some holes You're you're plugging holes with talent. We'll have to come from the draft right now And that's where you that's where you're at right now. I think what what stood out to me was you know Everybody wants to see the sexy move you want to see the splash move But this is how good football teams do it. I'm bringing sexy back You're bringing sexy back but realistically speaking more times or not You're not going and getting the big name for as you know why because you don't have 90 million dollars to spend you used to You didn't suck you used to yeah, well here's something I'll tell you though Because they had made mistakes over and over again on the offensive line and could not put an offensive line together That was decent They had to go overpay And get guys last year when they they got the quitter dominant Um, they got tune in who they traded for and then rewarded with a contract Because he was going to keep playing unless you extended his contract you and got the kid from LA and You brought in him you pay him to you know
Two of those guys should and your top five guys getting paid on this football team So because you made made mistakes year after year on the offensive line You had to go address your offensive line with veteran talent. Yes, so You used to have cap room, but you don't have cap room because of the mistakes you kept making on the offensive line So Nate Davis oh oh boy. Let's remember him too These were all failures on Ryan Polespart All failures and then last year with the guidance have been Johnson You ended up getting guys of some quality that have come in here solidified that offensive line for you So well, where do you and how do you get to a situation where you've got to let go of players It's because you've made mistakes on players over and over again To the point when you finally had to write the ship you had to overpay guys to come in here to play on the offensive line That's where you're at now at some point they get sacrificed because Darnell writes gonna have to get paid That's and that's what it's a but that's gonna happen. That's gonna cycle over and over and over and over again
That's gonna cycle you got to have a plan for this year You got to have a three-year plan you got to have a five-year plan with a ten-year plan You got to have all that and as the years go by they cycle into shorter-term plans as opposed to your long-term plan With that you've got projections where you believe the cap's gonna be And what kind of room that you can have it's not an easy job No, but if you hit it's an easier job But if you don't hit it becomes a very difficult job And sometimes Ryan Poles has put himself in a situation where he's made his own life very difficult Because of the misses that he's had no 100% and I think we're still having that conversation, right? Yeah, you're struggling to go out and maybe Take a big swing for a Max Crosby Because Diolidane Bowl makes a heck of a lot of money Yeah, very much You know, I mean greatie Jared. I thought he got he got better since the year when he got health here He played better he played 68% of the snaps in the games that he played it. Yeah so And he was better and he was more effective as he went on
And he could play great this year. Yeah, and he played great this year I would then take a look at what he did last year and say only because he was hurt You signed him injured. Yeah, you signed him hurt. Yeah, you could have failed him on his physical after you know before you signed him You could have pulled the ball some more ragans move. Yeah, we're gonna send him back now. You could have done that but um, I think He's gonna be fine in the middle. I don't worry about Grady Jared going in the next year I think he's tough enough to not let that bother him And I think he'll be healthier next year. It's hard to say a guy that ages a year gets healthier But I didn't come off that knee surgery. I think he gave us a ton of grit And he started to become more effective toward the latter half of the year Yeah, let's let's hope so let's finish it out with this year go because you brought up the offensive line One I like the move of going and getting Garrett Bradbury from the Patriots no sacks You didn't have any choice didn't have a choice right give up the fifth. We had to do something yeah any concern on your part that
You're going again, and you mentioned Nate Davis and getting a offensive lineman That variable is okay saying yeah, he can go by by we're okay with that No, maybe they had somebody in a backup role that they knew was it ready to take over for the top spot And they got it themselves a fifth round pick You know his stats are what his stats are yeah, you're looking up You know what you're getting there's no sacks no pedal there's that that's a good place to stop you're not you're not getting a surprise You know, you're getting something that you yeah 100% absolutely know that you're gonna get so you're gonna stick around and you're gonna find a way to get it done Braxton Jones coming back for the price one year Jones come one year or five million It's not a million in a sentence not a problem for me at that price five million dollars If nobody else can do it during training camp you know you've got the bare minimum level of play Out of Braxton Jones you know what the worst is with him Well, and you put some both back you you're in the same scenario is the beginning of the year last year Yeah, I've got no no problem with it. They looked at what the left tackle market look like
They looked at the guy they got released from the Detroit Lions and they said you know what If we convince him to sign this deal for that amount of money it'll be worth it for us to keep a guy that's got starts He's been in the league. He knows what's going on We'll put up with him getting pushed back into the quarterback if we have to But we know exactly what we have it's the yeah, what is it the double you know the devil you know First the devil you know that's right. I'd ask you this is he the starter in your mind with Theo Benedict It on the roster who took his job last it can compete for it. Yeah, they'll go to training camp. They'll compete for him The guy that plays better plays that's fine with me. I've got no problem. Let him compete for it And that's the one year stopgap to get your pillow back I did trouble healthy. Get him back out of your left tackle position I'm gonna share with this if the Bears don't go out and get Max Crosby Would you look into trying to get a Darnell right contract on this year to try and Get the payment in well, or he possibly possibly possibly um I look for them if they don't get Max Crosby maybe to get Genevian clowning
So I saw that in the Navy is that probably coming what he's a mercenary 12 million dollar. I don't know what I don't know. Yeah, he's your mercenary. Yeah. This is what he does now It was the guy we had a couple years ago. He's got his rushing skills. He comes in and that's what he got Unikin gockway. He's your Unikin gockway of this season essentially. Yep. Yeah, I got it can come in Yonic the gockway I got it can come in and just get to the quarterback. We'll see what the Bears end up doing Today then gives you a little bit better body a little bit bigger body. Yeah I think which is a plus he also can do it from the inside. Yes Um If you get a young kid out on the perimeter or you want to play Booker in there He a jadevian can move in over a guard and rush over a guard too. So that's bonus. I love a jadevian clown He didn't turn into what we thought he'd be but uh Solomon one one one play against University of Michigan made him Right remember that play? It made him turn into the first pick Yeah, he probably never should have been the first pick overall on the draft The one play made him and everybody fell in love with its physical skills
I mean he hadn't had a terrible career Why it's tough it's tough to live up to that number one pick and just is If they would have taken him in the second round And you're to look at what he done you'd say boy for a second. I think he's been a great great great player So it's all perspective feels like a a Leonard Floyd type of player Yeah, I mean, he's been the other guy that's all him then you look at the numbers and you know this guy's got a lot of stuff Only better, you know jadevian clowny only better. Yeah I am an appreciate you guys for tuning in to show and love appreciate you coming on as always good kid hit that like button Subscribe to the page leadify star of you. I'll know what to do. We'll keep you uh abreast of everything Offseason wise and bears free agency wise.
