Matute Joins 49ers Staff, Possibly as Offensive Line Coach

0:00With the NFL today, March 6th, the San Francisco 49ers are shaking up their coaching staff early in the off season. They've lost a few coaches but brought in fresh faces, including Matt Eberfluss as the new assistant head coach for defense. Right after that news hit, reports surfaced about another addition. Kent State offensive line coach, Angel Matute, is joining Kyle Shanahan's staff ahead of the 2026 season. Matute got his start in coaching back in 2020 at Missouri after medically retiring from playing football the year before. He worked as a graduate assistant at Minnesota from 2022 to 2023. Then as assistant offensive line coach at Purdue Inn, 2024, before heading to Kent State last spring. Some fans might recall his name from the 2024 Bill Walsh diversity coaching fellowship, where he spent time with the 49ers. His exact role remains unclear for now, but he could step in as assistant offensive line coach, especially with Cameron Clemmons possibly moving over.
