Matthews Out for Season, Leafs Rally After Hit

Toronto Maple Leafs captain Austin Matthews is sidelined for the rest of the regular season with a grade 3 medial collateral ligamentaire and a quad contusion in his left leg. The 28-year-old forward will get re-evaluated in two weeks for a further update. The injury happened during Thursday 6-4 win over the Anaheim Ducks at Scotiabank Arena. Matthews took a knee on knee hit from Ducks' defenseman, Radco Goudus, who drew a major penalty for kneeing and a game misconduct late in the second, period. Goudus faced a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety the next day. Maple Leafs coach Craig Baroube called out his players for not immediately standing up for their captain after the hit.
