Toronto Maple Leafs Captain Austin Matthews suffered a lower body injury during Thursday's game against the Anaheim Ducks. The hit happened late in the second period during a knee-on knee collision. He had to leave the ice and did not return. The incident occurred at 1547 when Matthews tried to avoid a check from Ducks Captain Radco Goudus in front of the net. Ducks Goudus gave Goudus a major penalty for kneeing along with a game misconduct. Matthews stayed down for several minutes before getting help from a trainer and teammate Brandon Carlo. He put little weight on his left leg as he headed to the locker room. Just before the injury, Matthews had snapped a 12-game goal drought. He scored at 1047 in the second period, his first tally since January 27th. Up to that point, he had locked 13 minutes and 18 seconds of ice time with two shots on goal. Matthews has put up 53 points this season with 27 goals and 26 assists over 60 games.
