Although, it doesn't narrows down as much as it might because it's a World Cup winner in Barcelona and they have quite a lot of them. True, true, they've got a fair few. Before we do that, last week, Sid, you were keeping track of your predictions. I think it's fair to say it wasn't, they weren't as successful as the, as the previous week, is that right? Was, am I right in saying it was six of nine the first week or seven of nine? Yes. I think, I think it was six this week, but of ten or maybe it was five. Wait a minute. Sid, helpfully, at the end of the match day, he sends us a little note with some sort of

3:06tick and cross emojis. Let me count the TX12345, five out of ten. It's not very good as it. It's not, I mean, it's not terrible, but it's not very good. It's not, let's try and improve on that. Confusingly, there was a game last night's seed, but it wasn't part of this match day. It was part of match day six, I think, wasn't it the goal of straw between Harry Allen Seltzer? And the reason for that is also the reason why in the middle of a midweek match day, set of fixtures, I'm off for a European game in Donoste on the Thursday night, in the middle of the next round of midweek fixtures, because yeah, Ralph Sauthiel had to bring that game early, so they could play their European game as the dog makes a funny noise in the background. The European game against Bournemouth, who thought I'd be going to see Bournemouth in Europe? Excellent. We don't have to talk about that in that case, and it was the goal of straw anyway, so not a whole lot to say. Let's start looking at this weekend's games, seed, match day four kicks off with the big one. Tonight, Friday night, this game may well have been played by the time some of you listen to this.

4:06Rail Betis against Rail Matria. How are we feeling about Betis right now, seed? We are feeling, I think, that if you look at the team that they've got, if you look at their ability over recent years to reestablish themselves to compete again, we would be feeling I think recently optimistic, because I look at that team and I think that's a pretty good side. There's a lot of very good technical players in there, the signing of Danny Thibaios. I honestly don't know how that's going to end up, but for all the way that people look at him from a round of perspective, this is a guy that, in theory, in another club in Spain would be amongst the best players there. It's still a very, very good footballer, and seems to fit the kind of style that Betis play of keeping the ball, maybe of keeping the ball a bit too long, but all the way through the team, despite the disappointment of the departure of Pavlagasia. And yet, he was a guy that might not have started very often. So in that sense, it's not really debilitated. So if you take all of that, you would feel quite positive.

5:07Now, on the other hand, if you were to take the way that they played against Levante, you would think that the Brown Madrid will absolutely tear them a bit. Yeah, if Levante, with all due respect, if Levante can score five goals against you, then what can... And Betis and Vinnie and Bellingham do? Yeah, and it was the nature of the goals as well. It was how Betis lacked that great word that we often come back to Contumdencia. There wasn't a decisiveness about the way that they defended. There was a weakness, a vulnerability. They were very own-pum. They didn't seem to... When they went into challenges, they didn't seem to go into challenges with any sense of determination or commitment or belief that they were genuinely going to win the ball. They were losing players from set plays. One of the goals is a complete gift trying to get the ball across the back. I can't see anything other than a round of victory in this one. Although, traditionally, this is a kind of game where a round of might find it difficult.

6:09No. That's a way as well. That does definitely play a part with Betis, I think. I mean, not tonight, because it's too soon, but going forward for Betis, do you think... Can you see a team with Sibios, Four Nells and Isko? Yes. Is that... Is that possible? Do you think those three can they fit them in? Yeah, and I can. Essentially, because this is sort of what Manuel Pellegrini does. If you look at his teams over the years and he's quite eloquent on this. He talks about essentially the lesson of him as a player and he sees himself as a guy that was very, very limited. He's aggressive and nasty and a sent a back who would fight with everyone who he could. He said, deep down at some level, I learn that the players that won me the games were once with a talent. So, as a manager, if there's a basic principle, it's as many good players in the pitch as possible. Now, his definition of a good player, and we see this repeated in his teams, are people with the ball. People who use the ball well in interior spaces rather than wide spaces, although it's not

7:11to say he hasn't had winners. And in particular, with this better team, we've seen moments when he's opened it up and maybe been a little bit more direct and a little bit more of a pitch wide. But he loves a technical inside midfielder. And so, how do you play those together? Well, one of the reasons why Four Nells continues to play is that he's ended up as a deeper midfielder. I suppose you could see almost a parallel with Petri in terms of what's happened to him. That this is the guy that theoretically is a floating number 10 or an 8. And he ends up in the double pivot of one of a bit of phrase. And then, of course, you could definitely have Isko drop a little bit deeper and play that role. I think you could have those three, probably in something looking a bit like a triangle in which Isko is ahead of the other two. I can see something like that. So that's in a way, win for Real Madrid. You think that would make it maximum point so far for Real Madrid this season. Let's move on to Saturday. Big game at Samo-Mez, a game that I will be attending. I'll find that. Ben is sitting from your holiday. I'll be athletic against Adleti for ESPN. We don't know yet. At the time recording, Diego Simione is about to speak.

8:13We don't yet know what role if any, Julian Alvarez will play. And indeed, the new signing Jonathan David. Yeah, my feeling with Alvarez, and in a way, I almost feel like this should be prefaced by an apology, the fact that we keep coming back for Alvarez. And I know that I'm a little bit tired of it now. And I'm sure the rest of you are as well. And given that the trance of windows now close, and this situation is, is resolved at least contractually, then you sort of think, well, why are we still on it? I'll tell you why, we're still on it. As much as anything else, because this is precisely what this podcast is today. This is a preview podcast about how athletic Madrid will set up. And I think your question is, is, is, is, is in a way the key question is, how, what kind of role does he play? Is he going to be reintegrated into team and how? Now, my feeling with this would be, he doesn't start. And I think there's a couple of reasons for that. And I think one of them is, well, that one is a basic one. Right, the basic one is, you can't, I think, emotionally just put him straight back in the team. I think you need to show some willingness, if you like, to punish him exactly,

9:17but not to say, right, okay, you go straight back in. I also think, obviously, there's a physical element to that, which is that, you know, he hasn't trained. And even if that has been a staging, if you like, of his discontent, then I think that has a physical impact to it. I also think that you've found recently good solutions without him. So I think that Simioni will be keen to play him in this run of away games, but probably not to start him. I would expect, I would expect him to be not necessarily keen to start immediately with a new signing as well. So I think we'll see, at least to begin with, the, if you like, the play without a number nine formation. I mean, it worked pretty well with Alex Baina, more so than with, with Lookman. Yes, more so than with Lookman. And after Lookman game, he said that he'd apologise to Lookman for asking me to play there. I think Baina quite enjoyed it all bit. Baina had this weird, sort of hybrid role of dropping in to get the ball, but all to them, you know, the first goal away at severe is very much a number nine kind of run across the face of the defense angle, just right for the little ball,

10:21done through for him and finished like a number nine. I think that's what he'll go for to start with. Although Simioni is a little bit unpredictable at the moment, because of this question about the striker, and actually because he's changed a formation around them. We've seen him play with wing backs and play without wing backs. We've seen him play with one as a false nine and one as an actual nine, even if he's not a number nine. We've seen him play with an actual nine in the first week as well. We've now playing there. And so the short answer, this is don't really know. But I think calling out for us will get some minutes. In terms of what we expect in this game, this is a great game, by the way, as a kind of an occasion. Athletic against athletic goals are really enjoyable one. But I'm glad you're getting to go to. I think it's great fun. My feeling is that what we saw from athletic in the last game is the first step towards and getting it right. And I think you know, they win away at Celta. Win away at Celta, but if you saw the first half, they were brilliant, really, really good, very intense, very front footed, very aggressive,

11:22willing to take the game to their opponents. They, I thought they were what... I suppose essentially what we're saying here is they were what Terse, it's wanted to be. Now that I think sometimes takes time. I think it takes incredible intensity. I think with a club like athletic, this is almost what would I call this out? Almost a philosophical question. But I think with a club like athletic, you can do that. Because you have players who are physically pretty good. And we've seen this in periods over recent years. You saw it with definitely be able to be able to be sort of at times with Valverde. In fact, what we saw is that athletic are only really good when they're very intense. And you also, and the reason why I say it's almost a philosophical question, is that you've got a squad that's willing to do it. And a squad that's quite homogenous, if you like, is a kind of... What would you call it as a kind of attitude and all group, if you see what I mean? You know, this is a group of players who share a very similar ideal, I think, who have a sense of the importance of their club, which I don't think you would have a...

12:24You know, you stand a club that might finish 7th grade, but she's probably roughly what athletic are. Or maybe, you know, in a really good season, 5th or 6th. I don't think it would have that sense of this is big, if it wasn't a club like athletic. And so I think you can make those demands. And I think players will follow you. I think players are in a way, I suppose, more... Would you say more committed or more disciplined or more prepared to listen to a manager? Yeah, more if I'm to buy in. Yeah, than elsewhere. So I'm really fascinated by this. I don't know how I'll go. I feel like athletic or Madrid on the break might have enough, but this has tight written all over it. Okay, tight is not an acceptable prediction. No, it's not. I'm going to go for an athlete or a Madrid win. A way win. Okay, I think so as well. I think so as well. Okay, after that, the 630 BM kickoff on Saturday, RIO against Rassing Santander.

13:25Remind me, Sid, where is this game being played? Because sadly, isn't being played in Bayecas. Did you see last night's... At the same time as they are working frantically to try and make the stadium a little less bad. So, yeah, I'll have nothing wrong, but we'll clean up just in case. I mean, it's laughable really, and it's very sad. So, it'll be played at Wutake. Rathing... There was... I apologize for this. I can't remember who it was now. I think it was the CEO of Rathing. Well, there was a comment from him the other day saying that they've been trying to speak to RIO about tickets from RIO and even answering their calls. Now, obviously, if it's Wutake, there probably won't be a ticket problem. You just turn up and buy them on the gate, I would think. And that's certainly what happened last time. Anyway, as a game, what do we think? I mean, RIO are not a terrible team. I think actually Rathing are really not a bad team at all. And that bulltalk in everything that goes... I'm going draw.

15:29Yeah, Rathing's last visit to Madrid was at Hitafe and they lost one meal. So, that was... Hitafe? Yeah, technically. Technically, Hitafe and RIO are very different proposition though, aren't they? In terms of what you're facing. Yeah, so you said draw. Okay. After that on Saturday, the late game is Vieryale against Depour. We were discussing on the bonus pod. Yes, they how Depour had won the transfer window. Since they're like, nithnocent business bringing in not just a Dama Treyori who gave us a historic press conference. We have a number of basically... He used to have basically been about 56 times in three minutes. Do you know what? I think that might be because he's been in England, you know. I think basically comes from English speech more than from Spanish, to be honest. Yeah, it feels like a fairly common word that you use in English when you're trying to think of what to say. And it doesn't sound as natural in Spanish. I mean, I know it happens, but it doesn't have as natural in Spanish. Well, we forgive him for that. But they've also brought in, of course,

16:29Jimenez, Casadol, you've got Abamian banging in the goals. But still, a way Vieryale is not an easy prospect. No, it's not. And Vieryale, who I actually think what I've seen of them, they've looked okay, but there's sort of a vulnerability about them at the moment. I'm going home, wean on this, but I agree. I've really liked the way they've moved the market and mate of mine sent me a message. And it kind of brought it home to me and they, you know, far bit for me to make it all about us. But he said, he said, was there any real reason why Oviero couldn't have done last year what, therefore, have just done this year? No, not really. It's not like they spent a fortune on it. This was perfectly plausible for a newly corrode team. Well, I mean, the wages, I guess. The way, but there's no real reason why Depp will should be in a significantly better place to pay wages in Oviero last year. But anyway, that's a sort of a broader debate for another day, or maybe just a, you know, a means through which I can feel very depressed. Yeah, sure. I've reached there. You've met many. We've been getting a little bit worried about Valencia so far. Of course it's their final season at Mastaya.

And the signing of Harvey Elliott from Liverpool is a really interesting one for Valencia. Yeah, and it's an opportunity for him after a couple of very different seasons. This is the game I'm going to this weekend. So I'm quite excited about this one. There's a very weird, well it's not weird I suppose it's accumulation of many things. There's a very pessimistic move around Valencia. I don't know if you saw the press conference from from wrong Goliath, the CEO at, it got a bit of feisty. It got a little bit of questioning certainly. Well, I mean I don't about you, right, but I was listening to, what was listening to, I was listening to a Valencia-based radio the other day. And you say it's feisty because the question is I actually think there is something about the Valencia press pack or the Valencia media that I don't necessarily think they're wrong to have the

20:39feelings that they have and to have reached some of the conclusions that they have in the analysis. But there is a sort of an apparent determination for them to be the ones making demands rather than asking questions if you sort of mean. And there's lots of this guys got to go, why is he continuing? This is a disgrace. This why, you know, you have to be sacked. And essentially I think what happened with with Ron Goliath's press conference was that he was asked, well why aren't you going anywhere? Well, because I said I was going to retire after I've done three cycles for for transfer windows. He was then maybe a little bit prickly in response, but it's essentially because the question wasn't really a question. The question was basically why don't you shot off? I mean that was based in so far as that's a question. Why don't you shot off? And so I can sort of understand that. I can also, as I say, the caveat here is I can understand why that's the position of some of the Valencia media because of course they've watched this reality happen. They've watched a team that's now gone, I'm thinking right and saying eight years without playing in European football.

21:40Harvey Elliott turned up the other day and said I'm going to get you know, I want to get Valencia back into your food football. So right now the first thing is to get some stability and to survive with a certain degree of comfort. Now, Ron Gouly made a point which I must confess I hadn't fully appreciated. And I think he's entitled to make this point without any doubt. And the second half of last season they're actually third best team in Spain. And I had no idea or so he claimed now and this is probably where we check this data and it's not true. But I had no idea, I think he said 32 points in the in the so on the world for the second half of the season. I had no idea it was that good. He didn't feel that good to be honest. Even though they very clearly pulled away and you thought okay, right, they're safe now and then they kind of momentarily look like it might be dragged back in a bit and then they pulled away again. There's a very very determined sense that Corbrand is unpopular. And again, this goes back to what I was saying before that the media agenda around Corbrand is why is he still here? Get rid of him. This is disgrace. Well, is it, is that, you know, is there, are we really in a situation where, we're not necessarily where you could accept him going or wanting to go,

22:42but where you feel entitled to basically say he has to go? All I would say, Cid, and I know this isn't, you know, this is only a small part of his job, but if I was a journalist who had to listen to him every week in press conferences, I would be calling for his dismissal because I, I could say it's not, it's not the be on end all, but it's so. It doesn't transmit anything, doesn't it? It does. It does. It's so, um, I'm inspiring that I, yes, I would be craving something if I was a, yeah, no, that certainly true. Raspy voice, not really much content, um, sort of a slice. He said last week, didn't he? Which game was it? Um, because there's two in the last week, and I come in, which one of the two is, and he said, this is the worst we've played since I've been here. Now, worst first half we've played since I've been here. Uh, and they aren't good. Uh, and I don't think they're going to get a result out of Barcelona either. No, I'm Barcelona. Look, brilliant. So far, 12 goals in three games, not suffering for their lack of a ascended player. No, I mean, I think that's the nature of the types of games probably, um, makes this thing, other than he's sent it for,

23:42and I think they do, I think there will be games when they do need it. And I think the side they've got. Exactly. Exactly. They've addressed that up to a point. Now, look, they haven't addressed it with the superstar, some of the number nine they wanted. But that's essentially because they've recalibrated what they were looking for. Based, it's true on the realities of what they could get. Right? So they've gone, well, we can't get Pele. So let's not keep looking for Pele, or in this case, we can't get Julien Alvarez. So let's not keep looking for Julien Alvarez. Um, so if we can't get Pele, let's get, you know, who's a rubbish Brazilian? Uh, let's get Mirandini. Uh, remember him? Wow. First Brazilian. Is he a rubbish Brazilian? No, no, no. And I didn't mean Cabra was a, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, that's why I said, Mirandini, I was going from, good Brazilian to rubbish Brazilian. I didn't, yeah. But the reality is it's quite, quite a good, quite a good, but injury prone Brazilian state. Exactly, exactly. Now, for the time being, I think that the, the, the, the, the momentum suggests that they continue to, by the way, they are, they're incredibly intense, very, very quick, running at you from all over the place.

24:43I, I really want to see what their response is when teams play deeper and don't allow them to place the running to them, when they, when they can't rob and run and, and, and do those incredibly quick transitions. I think there are a team that, obviously, this is state in the obvious. I know that. But I think Barcelona are a team that can play the other way as well because of the quality of players across the midfield. Um, but I think that might be where they need the subtlety of the movement of a number nine. Or they need someone to open, open the door a little bit without necessarily being a run into space, which of course is where LeMini Mall comes in. Or when the angled passes of Daniel Mall come in, or when Pedri get close to the edge of the area and he's producing those passes, or with Pedri it's quite often not the last pass. It's quite often the penultimate pass that opens everything up and then the goal is scored. So I think the pass time do look good. I think a bit like we've said in all of our analysis with Madrid, let's wait till they're a bigger test and we, we have a better sense of what they are and maybe with Madrid, that's coming against, um, against Inter and against Athletica Madrid. I'm not quite sure when Barcelona's first really big team is because it's final on the Champions League. That's not particularly big one.

25:44But yes, I would say this looks to me like in a way when they're first a really big game you could argue. Well, they've got PSG in the Champions League on October the 20th and then it's the classical, of course, on the 25th. So that's the, they've got those back to back. Back back. Yeah. Yeah, there you go. So that would be a week from from which they could emerge. Feeling very, very good about themselves or feeling like actually maybe there's, maybe there's a little bit of a hole in this. Did you say you were predicting and away win for that? I did. Yes. Great. Okay. Next up, and this is probably one that Kittre would describe as one for the, for the purists, although he normally reserves that for his athletes. It tends to be, tends to be, it's revolve with that play doesn't it? And maybe that would be unfair in this case. It's Alive's Ossosuna. Is it, am I being unfair by even making that suggestion? No, I don't think you're seeing from, I'm out of this. Well, Alive has been a bit more, I was going to say exciting than we thought. I'm not sure exciting is quite the right word, better than we thought. Maybe not, maybe, maybe more exciting. Yeah, yeah. But I don't think they're a massively exciting team.

26:48I don't think Ossosuna are massively exciting either. I mean, Buddha mere wins penalty. Buddha mere wins penalty. Buddha mere scores penalty is basically how Alessosuna win games, isn't it at the moment and actually going back quite a long time now. I'm going to go for home win in this one. Home win. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. I like that. Will Malaga be getting a home win in the next game? Well, game actually has been played simultaneously also 6.30 big off on Sunday. Malaga, I mean, if they've got, if they want to stand a chance of staying up, they have to be getting results in games like this at home against the Vante. Do you think they will? Lovante comes with a back with that big win against Betis? That big win was absolutely mind-blowing. Honestly, I mean, we're talking earlier about how bad Betis were and they were, but I did not see that coming from Lovante. What, so ever, I think home win. I agree with you know, Malaga have actually not been too bad so far, even at the Bernabéu until they can see the first level. Yeah, they look good, but it hasn't happened. Yeah,

27:52home win. It's got to start happening for them quite soon. The late game on Sunday is Espanyol against Sevilla, is it? This is a hard call, isn't it? Because we talked about this a lot, one of two things from Espanyol that we've quite liked, it's obviously not quite there yet, but one of two things that we've quite liked about them, they certainly seem to have been pretty competitive. I thought they were quite good in patches against Real Madrid a little bit unlucky to concede the final goal. I think we've seen moments from them. Yeah, I'm going to go and Sevilla's two wins were partly, I'm not going to call them circumstantially exactly, but a little bit of that. Espanyol home win. Home win. Okay, I felt like you were leaning towards the draw, but you've gone for a while. I was thinking there's the fence, there's the fence, do I sit on it? No, I'm just going to say this. You hopped off. Okay, we've got two games on Monday, the 7 o'clock kickoff is Hetafe against Celta, sit. Celta still do not have a win, and don't worry at all.

28:59No, no, no, it's obviously Celta. We've enjoyed them very much the last two years, really, they've been great. Do you know what, I honestly don't, I don't think I have an answer for you on that yet. I think they are a team that's about the mechanics. I think there is an element of that needing to be a little bit time, albeit the idea is there and the team is relatively stable, so it shouldn't maybe need as much time. I think there's a consciousness about what's coming with trying to distribute the resources across the season and across competitions.
