Massive news for Texas football, Lawrence Seymour has won his NCAA appeal, and he will be eligible for the Longhorns in 2026. What does it mean for Texas? According to on-war Richardson of Orange Bloods, transfer offensive lineman, Lawrence Seymour

2:03has won his NCAA appeal, and he's been cleared for an extra year of eligibility, meaning he will be on the field at Texas in 2026. Massive news, the Longhorns filling, maybe their biggest position of need. Last year, left guard was a disaster for Texas. It was a revolving door of players that they tried at that position, and they didn't have any answers, and it was a problem pretty much all year for the Longhorns. They went out, got the commitment from Lawrence Seymour in late January, and it was an exciting bit of news at the time. It kind of came out of nowhere. I don't think Lawrence Seymour was really on anybody's radars, and then boom, after Texas had already done most of its work in the portal, they go out, they get the commitment from Lawrence Seymour before he even visited Austin, and every Texas fan was starting to look at this guy and look at his resume, and there was a lot of excitement in the air. Then shortly after that excitement hit, we find out that, well, we're not sure if Lawrence

3:05Seymour is going to be able to play for Texas, because he's already spent five years in college football, and he has to get this appeal, or this waiver granted, for him to get a year six. Steve Sarkiesian had been asked about it during one of workouts. He was asked about it last week, during the first week of spring practice. There were no updates, and nobody really knew for sure if Lawrence Seymour was going to be allowed to play football at Texas. Now we get the great news that he has won his case, and he has been granted that sixth year of eligibility. It's a massive pick-up. Again, well-travelled, very experienced. This past season at Western Kentucky, he logged 840 snaps. All of them at left guard, he had an overall PFF offensive grade of 69.4, very nice. A run blocking grade of 63.9, a pass blocking grade of 82.6. Friendly reminder, Profitball focused Deem's 70 as average.

4:05So a pass block grade, near 83, that is very, very good for Lawrence Seymour. This past year charged with just eight pressures, and only one sack all out for the entirety of the 2025 season, playing on a Western Kentucky offense that throws the ball a lot. One sack allowed for Lawrence Seymour. Also, this is a stat that was music to my ears. I think it'll be music to yours as well, only one penalty committed by Lawrence Seymour last year. That was a problem all over the Texas roster. This team committed way too many penalties. They were second in the country, and penalties per game. That's got to change across the board. The offensive line, obviously a big culprit. They were responsible for a lot of the yellow hankies that were thrown against Texas last year. Lawrence Seymour, very good in past protection, very good at not committing infractions to double whammy right there. 6 to 320 pounds, and this guy, to say he's a journeyman, feels like an understatement. He has seen the world start of this college career at Miami, two years there, red shirt

5:06at year one, then he transferred to Akron, spent two years there, then he went to Westard Kentucky for 2025. And now he is finishing his career at Texas. There's a little background on who he is and where he's been mentioned. Once Texas fans started to learn about this guy, there was some excitement around Long Hornation. Here's why he was a second team all American, according to Phil Steele this past season. He was also a second team all American, according to the football writers association of America. Steele also had him as a first team all conference USA offensive lineman as well. So this is an all American caliber player, at least according to some publications last year. I think Phil Steele's legit. I think the football writers association of America is legit. These aren't Western Kentucky grads putting together their own all America teams and just giving their own guys some love. This is legit Texas is bringing in an all American caliber player to again fill what was their biggest hole on the roster last year and something that looked like was going to potentially

6:11be a hole on the roster this year. If Lawrence Seymour's eligibility waiver was not approved, Texas would have likely had an open competition at left guard going into fall camp. It feels like they have one right now, but that would have carried over into the fall if Lawrence Seymour was ruled in eligible. And I don't know what Texas would have done there. They would have had to figure something out, but I could tell you I would not have been very confident going into the first game of the season. Now with Lawrence Seymour and all of his experience and all of his talent coming into the fold, I feel so much better about the Longhorn's offensive line right now. This is a massive pickup talent and experience, skins on the wall, he has it all. And as things stands right now, the Texas offensive line projects to look like this going from left to right. Trevor Goosby, first team all SEC going to likely be a first round pick in next year's NFL draft. He's at left tackle. Lawrence Seymour, all American caliber player at left guard, Connor Robertson going into

7:14year five at center, Brandon Baker, former five star, who had a very good first year as a starter in 2025, he'll be at right guard and then Melvin Ciani, the big time transfer portal pickup from Wake Forest, and one of the top five offensive linemen who was in the portal, Ciani at right tackle. There's talent there. There's also a bunch of experience there. Those five guys combined have more than 5,800 collegiate snaps. It's often said a team will go as far as it's offensive line will take them with that much experience in the room. Texas looks like it has a unit that can take it pretty far and it's just another really talented piece. I mean, the Longhorn's are going to have a number of preseason all Americans this year. George Manning, Trevor Goosby, Colin Simmons, Cam Coleman, just to name a few. There's so much firepower on both sides of the football, the biggest question going into the off season and honestly, the biggest question going into today. And for some, maybe it's still the biggest question even after today. I get it. Lawrence Seymour was at Western Kentucky last year.

8:16That ain't the SEC. So he's got to come and prove it at this level of college football. So some of y'all might still say, hey, I'm not so sure about this all offensive line, but I can tell you again, I feel a lot better about it now knowing that Lawrence Seymour is going to be on this roster than I did going into today. And now this Texas coaching staff has a pretty good idea of its best five across the all offensive line. Can't remember if I mentioned this earlier, but Lawrence Seymour, just because he was ruled eligible and that news came out today, he won't be here until the summer. So it's not like, oh, great. We got the good news. That means after spring break, Lawrence Seymour can be a part of next week's spring practice, right? Wrong. He is finishing up his undergraduate degree this semester at Western Kentucky. So even though we got this bit of news, he won't be able to join the team until the summer. But man, I feel a lot better about where this thing is at. And also the depth. I mean, look, last year, last year, Texas didn't have five offensive line when they felt good about it. But there was zero depth on this team at all.

9:17Remember last off season, Texas brought in zero transfer portal players on the offensive line. A super big high school recruiting class. And that culminated with a half a season long experiment of mixing and matching offensive line combinations where you had Nick Brooks, a tackle playing left guard. You had Conor Stro trying to play left guard. You had Netta Oume Zulu trying to play left guard. It was a disaster. It was an absolute disaster last year. Texas bet on themselves. It did not work. The offensive line was a train wreck. It's a big part. I think the biggest part of why the Longhorns missed the college football playoff this past year. Eventually, they kind of got it right. They put cold Hudson at left guard and Conor Robertson at center, but it still wasn't great. And the Georgia game Texas still got pushed around it. And obviously, cold Hudson and DJ Campbell are now gone. So the Longhorns needed to address the offensive line in the portal, bringing in Melvin Ciannis huge, getting Lawrence Seymour's huge, adding Dylan Sikorski and John Tay Numan

10:18for some death as well is big time getting Andre Kojo back from injury is big time. I'm not going to sit here and act like this is one of the best offensive lines in the country. But I think there is zero doubt and zero question that the Texas offensive line is better at this moment than it was at this time last season. Huge. You need it. You've got a lot of skill position talent. You've got one of the best quarterbacks in the country. You've got two great running backs. You've got a loaded wide receiver room. There's a lot to love about this offense. I don't want to say none of it would have mattered without a good offensive line, but none of those other guys would have been able to live up to their full potential without a very good offensive line, adding a super experienced talented piece like Lawrence Seymour, who was a second team all American last year. That is absolutely massive for Texas. So great, great news, the final piece, the finishing touch, the cherry on top, the sprinkles, the icing on the cake, whatever metaphor you want to use, whatever you want to call

11:19it, along towards bringing in an elite transfer portal class. This was the last straw, the thing that takes it over the top. And it's some awesome, awesome news for Texas and getting it this early. I thought we're going to have to wait months knowing how the NC2A typically drags their feet. Well, I thought they were going to say no, and Texas was going to have to do it. Ole Miss did and take this to court. Obviously, Ole Miss doing that with her quarterback, Tobago Chambles. I thought we were in for a legal battle here, thankfully the NC2A said yes, it's all good. Lawrence Seymour can play, that is awesome for Texas. Big baby as they call him, welcome to Austin officially, big baby, we are excited to have you this season.
