Marquette Hires Proven Assistant Coach Joe Silvestri

0:00On April 23rd, Marquette University Women's Basketball Coach, Kara Kanswegra, just brought on Joe Sylvester as a new assistant coach. He's a proven builder with tons of Division I experience, coming straight from East Tennessee State University. Sylvester helped turn programs around and now joins the Golden Eagles to boost their staff. At ETSU this past season, he was key in an 18-win 13-loss record, including a 10-win four-loss mark in the Southern Conference. That earned them a share of the regular season title, their first since 1995, and they went undefeated on the road in conference play. For the first time ever, Kanswegra loves his energy, basketball smarts, and how he connects with players, saying it fits perfect with Marquette's culture. His track record shows he develops talent, like four all conference picks in a defensive player of the year at ETSU. Before that, Sylvester had a solid year to lane with a 17-win 13-loss season, a big upset over Florida, and a run to the AAC, semi-finals.

1:03Earlier at ETSU, he sparked the seventh biggest turnaround in Division I Women's Hoops history, jumping from six wins, 22 losses, 25 wins, 10 losses, smashing program records left and right. Sylvester is also coached at North Florida, Florida International, and started at UCF, even earning WBCA 30 under 30 honors. With his sport and exercise science degree from UCF, he's primed to elevate Marquette's game moving forward.
