What a game it was at Rigley Field. The Marlon's win 8 to 2 in 12 innings for the recap. Here's Jack McMullen. Well, if you stuck around and waited a while, your patience was rewarded. And then some a six spot for the Marlon's in the top of the 12th inning. And the Marlon's get the win in the series opener. The friendly confines here in Chicago at Rigley Field. 8 to 2 on Tuesday over the Chicago Cubs. Jack McMullen, Rod Allen, breaking this thing down for you.

1:01How about a scoreless 10th and a scoreless 11th right into a six spot for the Marlon's in the top of the 12th? The bulk of it coming against the former Marlon Edward Cabrera. But Rod Allen, I just want to give you this number and let you sit with it for a second. The Cubs were won for 18 with runners in scoring position today. They left 15 on base. We saw some performances out of that Marlon bullpen that were really special tonight. Give some credit to the Marlon's bullpen. I mean, because we had guys that walked out of that bullpen in tonight's contest, whether it was Peterson, whether it was Yeary, whether it was Echness, Vodnik, everybody got it done out of the bullpen. And that's how you win a really good game like this. I know it was four hours and some change, but it's a big win for this team. And it bodes well for our young team going into next year to have a game like this against a team like the Cubs, who you know is out there trying to win this game with everything they've got. This was a game built on pitching and you mentioned Yeary out of the bullpen. He fired a scoreless eighth.

2:02Yeary made his first professional appearance out of a bullpen. Much like Sandy did in Arizona, much like Janssen Junk did, although Janssen had been a swingman in previous years. But Janssen Junk started this bull game and Yeary came in and Echness was punching a, was pumping 102. It was the hardest we've ever seen, Josh Echness throw a baseball. But Janssen Junk set the tone with five scoreless, two hits, he cade six, he walked one. How good was Janssen against the best offense in Major League Baseball? I love the way that he uses fastball today. I think Rob Markchellin, I don't know for sure, but I'll talk to him tomorrow. I don't know if it was the win blowing in that led him to believe that the junk fastball would work today because they would not be able to hit the ball out of the ballpark. He was first pitch strike on a lot of the hitters today of the Cubs. And that's the way you got to go after the Cubs. It's a good baseball team and you can't shy away from them. And our pitchers did not shy away from the offense of the Cubs. And that's why they won this game. No doubt about it. Meanwhile, Jacob Marcy was the guy that really got things rolling with an RBI single in the top of the 12. It was a six-pot in the 12th and Marcy was standing by with Stephen Postgame.

3:04How do you even begin to describe this type of victory tonight? Yeah. We would, I don't really know. Our pitchers to do what they did in those extra innings and keep them off. I mean, they only had a score one. We were trying to play for more than one and for them to do that and keep us in the game just so we could scratch a couple of crosses huge and props to them. When did you feel that 12th inning start to build up? I think right away when Griff got the hit and call got overturned. I think once he got overturned, I think it gave us a lot more life. We were able to string together at bats out of that and just keep them going. You're a Michigan kid, I know that. But this had to be a bucket list place to play. What was it like playing at Rigley Field that night in this crowd? Yeah, it's amazing. I mean, when you grow up, these are the games you want to play in. These stadiums, the Pact House at night. I mean, the history in this place, it's special and it's really fun to play here. Thanks for the time, Marcy. A problem, thank you.

4:04All right, Jack. All right, thank you very much to Steven Stromb and to Jacob Marcy. Highlights when we come back, fish win 8-2 in 12 here on the Marlins Radio Network. This is Tyler Phillips. We're listening to the 10th and the show. We're Jack and Colin on the Marlins Radio Network. All right, highlights tonight. How did this ball game sound? The Marlins win 8-2 over the Chicago Cubs in 12. Scoring open way back when in the top of the 4th inning. Thanks to the Gus Bus. Three one line shot, back up the box and that is down for a base hit. Sinoha takes a turn in second, but stays put there. Stowers into score from 3rd easily and the Gus Bus drives in the first run. It's an RBI knock on 108 right back up the gut and the fish are up one nothing in the top of the 4th. Well, that Augustine Ramirez single opened up scoring and then the fish jumped in front. Two nothing, thanks to some Stowers power. Two two. Swanson swings and misses a slider. A Stowers 17 of his 19 homers against Rites.

5:06First pitch Kyle lifts high in the air out to left center field. Happens back onto the track at the wall. It is gone. Apo Taco for Kyle Stowers. And as they always do here at Riggly, they toss the baseball back, but Kyle Stowers doubles the Marlin advantage. It's two nothing fish on a beauty of a bomb here in the top of the 6. But Chicago got on the board just a half inning later. Runners at the corners. Nobody out. Two two. Bush with a ground ball to the backhand of De Los Santos. He comes home with the throw and a popped away from Matt. Crow Armstrong comes in his score. Suzuki pushes to 3rd. It was an untarget throw from De Los Santos a little bit to Max back in and he just didn't catch. That's going to be a rare air by Joe Matt. A rare air. Cuts on the board, threatened to wear close to over. That'll be a fielders choice off the bat of Michael Bush.

6:06But an air on Mac makes it to one Marlins here on the bottom of the 6. And Ian Hap tied this game at 2. 1-0. Hap lines 1, past the outstretched club at De Los Santos. It's a fair ball down the right field line. Suzuki comes in from 3rd to tie the game. Bush goes first to 3rd and Ian Hap gives us a fresh contest. We're not at 2 in the bottom of the 6. But that is how we got 2 extra innings tied at 2. And the Cubs were threatening in the bottom of the 10th. They had the bases loaded and one man out. But they got a pop out for out number 2. And then a Javier Sinoha came up clutch. Full count. Base is loaded. Two outs. The pitch is about Singapore. Sinoha slides. He's got it on the outfield grass. He tosses to 1st and we go to the 11th. Javier Sinoha sliding stop on the forehand. The second baseman spun on the deck. He popped up. Tossed to 1st and Ralston strands the bases loaded.

7:10Javier Sinoha with that sliding grab. He sent us to the 11th still scoreless. And that was Goosex galore there. So we pushed the 12th and Griffin, Konan, blooped to ball down the left field line to plate the first run. But as you know, a team on the road in extras. The second is all important and Jacob Marcy drove in that one. First pitch to Marcy. Lines shot in the right center. That'll get down for a base hit. Konan around third. Griffin to come in his score. And there's that breathing room. The all important second run in extras on the road. RBI single for Marcy. It's four two Marlins in the top of the 12th. And then they brought in the former fish, an old friend Edward Cabrero to take on the top of the order. Now, Ariberto Hernandez did reach on a hit by pitch and then misfires brought in another run. Pay off. Misses low for ball four.

8:11A hundred. Darnier spiked. Another run comes in. It's five two Marlins. And the booze rained down on the former Marlin. Edward Cabrero from his home crowd at Riggly. A hobby here is to know how with an RBI single to attack on another in the top of the 12th. And the final blow in a six run inning from Joe Mack. And Mack bounces ball hard up the gut and through for a base hit. Two runs are going to come in his score. Otto from third. Stowers around from second. It's a two run single for Joe Mack. It's eight two Marlins on a six spot here in the 12th. You still got to shut it down. Victor Vodnik did just that for a Marlins win. The first pitch to a half, little two hopper over to short. Otto's got it. Stance tall. Tusses to first. And that is how this ball game ends. Great win for the boys tonight. Great win for the boys tonight. A six spot for the Marlins in the top of the 12th. And they get the win in 12.

9:12Over the cups at Riggly on Tuesday night. Well, that's how this one sounded when we come back. We'll check on the out of town scores. Let's head down to List of Marlins manager Clayton McCullough after this one. Where do you begin on a game like tonight? I for me, I think it just speaks to the character of the guys in that clubhouse. I mean, certainly we had a really tough series in San Diego. There are a lot of reasons. But to come back here today, bounce back like we did, being a really hard fought game, you know, hearing a really good team in a tough place. And for our guys to hang in there and so many step up and have big moments and then to have the extra innings go the way it did for us to get a win. I think it's just as much speaks to this group never, never quitting. And, you know, going to play, you know, play it out like we did today. We're going to go out and try to win every game. So, be more proud of the players and staff for, you know,

10:14what continues to approach every game like we did tonight. Did you guys build that 12th inning offensively? Yeah, I mean, just some really good at batsman. Griff got it going, he hung in there, you know, flipped one down into good spot to get that first run. And, you know, Paulie Sackbont, Marcy with a big hit left on left to give us the, you know, it was big to get the two run cushion. And I think, you know, then from there, just some really high quality at bats with the wall to hit my pitch. And then, you know, the players base is loaded walk. And, you know, Sinohad just continues to come through. And, you know, Slash just wanted to write for a couple more. So, I think it was just a really impressive display of just passing the baton, having really high quality at bats and a big part of a game. Was that as impressive of an outing from Echnis that you've seen? Yeah, I think he's been, I really think Echnis has been throwing the ball very well. We think about Arizona and the couple in as he threw there in extra innings. And it's just a matter of really of Eck filling up the rectangle. And I think he's been doing a much better job of that. We've seen how well his fastball is playing. And now when he's able to get ahead of people, they would use his weapons.

11:15So, another tight spot for Eck to be in. And, you know, to get it done, him and Jack were all in both. I mean, there's some really big spots for, you know, some young pitchers that are gaining a lot of valuable experience right now. So, really, really have without extending. If fastball is playing well, it also defences its been in his career. One of the fastest fastballs for a strikeout in a Marlin ever. Like, just where, where's he unlocking that extra Vila? I think his fastball was definitely a pitch that we believed was like a really special. And I think he's just, there's a little bit more conviction and confidence behind these throws now. I think there's, you know, there was a period where he did, he struggled to find the strike zone, probably feeling forward a little bit more. And, you know, at some point you just have to make a decision that you just have to, you know, let it rip and trust it, you know, you can get it in the box. It's not trying, we don't ask this guy to hit corners or be too fine. It's just, you know, rip it through whoever's catching you's mitt and, you know, trust with the quality of that pitch. And, you know, but now he's continuing to trust that. That's another really rare, you're hurry.

12:15Just, whose idea was, I think, Brock has been mentioning that he kind of came up to you guys or just what a... It was, you know, when Sandy came in in Arizona, you know, he was on the bench. And, you know, a few of these before and like, well, you can go have the eighth. And talk to him in San Diego. And, you know, so, hey, you know, there's chance tonight would be the night. You know, he's going to start on Friday and the potential of possibly coming out of the bullpen tonight, pin on how this game went, that would, you know, still give him a couple days before his next start. And, you know, Yuri was up for that. And feel like, you know, it got to a point the way this game was going and tied in the eighth there. You know, he was ready and down there. So let's go, let's go fire this bullet now. And, you know, it helped us win a game tonight. And then, you know, so something that now he can say that, you know, he's done. And we've seen him do and, you know, we're not done with 26 yet. But as we, you know, we get into 27. We're not sure, you know, how things, you know, could play out throughout the entire course of the year. And is this something that is a potential at various times? And, you know, him having, now the experience of having gone down there and done that,

13:16I think it's just, it's a great developmental piece for him to take on something different. And, you know, also, you know, looking down the road, if this is something that we explore further, you know, he and us can draw from this. But when you say it's worth further, is that different than like the previous instances we've seen with John Kinsambi, like in between start, like, not he'd still start it. Like it's just more like how often you would do this just to... Yeah, Yuri's going to be a starter for us. And more the in between, you know, how many the frequency of asking guys to do that. I don't know, but I do think that this is not out of the realm where we get into 27. And depending on how, you know, things only given they potentially could line up and availability in that, that, you know, that this could be something that, look, we feel there's no harm in having these conversations with guys right now. And, you know, potentially exposing them to this, here while we have a chance. And, you know, don't know what will come from this moving floor, but at least you know what it's worth having the conversations with them.

14:19Getting some experience exposure and to see if it's, you know, something that is continued next year. When he looked obviously he's had his struggles, lost four or five strikes out. Just, what do you hope he can take away from? Like, you know, striking outside, he looked like there, we know. What do you hope he can take away from Friday then? Like it is how good he is. And this is, you know, this is an incredibly talented young man. And certainly, you know, new for him tonight to come out, but look, a great environment in a tied game in the eighth inning. To come out and all this is like the first pitch, the first pitch he threw strike one. Like, okay, he's, you know, this is, this is going to be good. And he filled it up. And again, I hope it's just a reminder for him. This is, you know, this is how good he is. And this is something, yes, it's one inning tonight. But, bottle up that. And, you know, now you take that over five, six, seven innings. This is the, you know, we've seen what he's capable of and just trying to get back to that version. Is there a world next year that we can have a starting pitcher pitch three times in a week? No, I don't think so. I think this is going to, it's more, I mean, there's, you know, we're, if this is four times a year, you know, if this isn't something I don't think we look at it.

15:25Hey, this is between every single start. This could be more circumstance. There's a, you know, a ton of variables that will go into this. And so what it potentially looks like, I don't know, Stephen. I just think that this is, we've had conversations like this. You know, certainly, you know, junk had done it. And now, you know, Sandy and Yuri have done this. So, you know, I think we're always up for having the conversations with our players and, you know, explain some of the reasoning now. And then, hey, moving forward, how this potentially could help us, you know, win a game, save somebody's roster spot. There's, you know, a number of things that it could be in play there. And we know that every win potentially makes a big difference when you get at this point in the year. What did you think of junk tonight? I thought junk was fantastic. I think he was. It was, you know, how he was, you know, the pitch count got up there early. I think how he was really able, kind of the second time through to get some quicker outs. He's so did a great job keeping them off the scoreboard. He made a lot of high quality pitches tonight. Was able to strike with his secondary stuff, you know, early in the count through some really good fastball.

16:29So, you know, another good outing for him. And, you know, got through five at a, you know, at a really good pitch range tonight. So, we know, again, we needed that. We needed every zero he put up there as this thing turned out. Jensen junk five shut out six Ks one walk. He was junk post game. Jensen, how do you think tonight's outing went? I thought it went well. You know, I think the biggest thing, especially with the wind how it was today is just throwing strikes. We knew, you know, they would be aggressive. And I thought we had a good game plan going into it. You know, last time, I think we were against them just a few weeks ago. We kind of had a different plan. And, you know, we thought, you know, today the fastball could be utilized a little bit more. And I think we executed that. And, you know, probably took him by surprise. I think last time I threw, I threw most breaking balls I've ever thrown in the year. And then this time I have a little bit more balance.

17:29You know, I think worked in my favor and you know, got some big outs and some, you know, late in the game especially that fifth inning. You know, again, let's strike out to a swanson to end it, you know, just help the team as much as I can that spot, you know, going up to and, you know, just trying to put up zeros for the guys. The plan was more fastball. But at what point did you know that this is going to play very well in these elements? I wouldn't necessarily necessarily say the, you know, the plan was to throw more fastballs like Arizona that was specific. This time I think, you know, just having a conversation with Rob, I think my stuff plays best when I throw off the fastball. You know, and just have those, you know, other outings where it's, oh, maybe, you know, the breaking stuff's working and we just stick to that. And it's kind of just see how the game goes. You know, we could have went to that if we needed to, you know, just knowing how the win was tonight, you know, just, you know, utilizing that to my favor of just, you know, keep filling up the zone.

18:38You're going to really have to get it to get it, you know, to get out of here. So I think we did a good job at that. You seem pretty fired up because it's going to find out of the fifth. You know, you don't usually show too much emotion whatsoever. Yeah, I think it was just a big moment. You know, the starts before just going shorter and then being able to finish that off, you know, with a pitch that I really liked right there that I had full confidence and, you know, just added a little bit, you know, two, two zero ballgame, you know, walk PCA. Was it PCA? No, no, who, whatever. That was early in the game. But yeah, just being able to strike them out right there. You know, it was just big, big moment in the game, up to zero. I think it was Kelly. No, I'm thinking about it. Yeah, they set up the middle line. I just felt fully in control in that moment and to execute like that, you know, just brought out that emotion. I'm going to turn the setter. You're the first of now three starters to, but just how did you bounce back from it and like how have you seen, I guess, Sandy and Yuri now just kind of go through that.

19:46Yeah, I think, you know, I bounce back pretty good. You know, I felt really good going into that next game. I didn't know Yuri was out there today. The sandies I knew that it was a possibility and that was cool to see. And then, you know, I was doing my arm, arm care post post throwing. I see Yuri out there. I was, I was pretty, pretty shocked by it, but it was, it was cool to see him get three strikeouts right there. Get that confidence that he can do that because it's a totally different mentality going in there at that, that part of the game. And, you know, to harness and control it, you know, good for Yuri. All right, so the Marlins will look to win this series 741 pitch. It'll be Ryan Gusto, who toes a rubber for Miami, 7 o'clock Marlins on deck for Jack and Rod. I'm Steven.
