On April 20th, Wall Street took a small dip Monday as fresh US Iran tensions cast doubt on that shaky two-week ceasefire. The big indexes ended the day lower after three straight weeks of gains, mainly because Iran shut the straight of Hormuz again over the weekend, right. After opening it last Friday, their reopening had sparked a market rally, pushing the S&P 500 in Nasdaq to record highs for a third session in a row their best weekly. Gumps in 11 months. Not Iran is mulling peace talks with the US and Pakistan to ease a poor blockade, but reports of Vice President J.D. Vance heading there got shot. Down. Oil prices spiked hard in response, with US crude closing up nearly 7% and $89.61 a barrel and burnt up. Over 5% and $95.48. Energy stocks led the pack, while investors shrugged off the drama since first quarter earnings from banks shall solid consumer spending so far. The S&P 500 slipped 0.22% to 7,110, Nasdaq dropped 0.25% to 24, 10488, and the Dow barely
budged down 0.01% at 49,445. The fear gauge vicks climbed after eight days down, hitting a one-week high, earning season heats up this week with Tesla dropping results, Wednesday plus Lockheed Martin and IBM, of the first 48 S&P reporters, 87.5% beat estimates, with 14.4% growth overall, so markets might shake off the headlines if profits. Keep shining. From across the country, powered by AI, this is US News Today. I'm Corey with The Story.
