Manchester Council Builds 1600 Affordable Homes

0:00On March 6th, Manchester City Council has partnered with the Greater Manchester Pension Fund to build around 1,600 new apartments and houses on Brownfield Land. More than one-fifth of them will be genuinely affordable, rented at or below the local housing allowance. This city, the Council's property developer, will handle seven projects, including the follow-up to last year successful, no-one-and-coats-green scheme, with 129 homes. Many units will go on the open market, but at least 20% will offer the Manchester living-rend. Council leader Bev Craig sees this as a major step in their plan for 10,000 affordable social and council homes. They delivered more last year than in any year since the early 2000s, calling the recent completion a great start. The site span neighborhoods, like the Northern Quarter, Harbour Hay, Bestwick, Longsite, Piccadilly, and Ardwick, totaling over 1,500 homes. Construction kicks off next year at Postal Street, with others slated for 2028 through 2030.
