Man Steals £150K Violin, Musician Left Without Prized Instrument

0:00On March 26, a 46-year-old man from East London faces death charges after allegedly swiping a 150,000-pound antique violin. From a pub in North London, Ahmed Sami Madur is accused of grabbing the instrument right from violinist David Eben as a side while he ate at the Marquess Tavern in Islington last, February 18. The violin dates back to 1740 in Florence and was on loan to Ibanez for his gigs with the Philharmonia Orchestra. On the same day, Madur also allegedly took a 4,000-pound guitar in nearby Hackney, leading to two theft counts against him. For the musician, the loss hit hard since the violin isn't just valuable, it's irreplaceable for his career and performances. Police charged Madur back on January 19, and he showed up at Snare's Brook Crown Court last week. He pleaded not guilty and got unconditional bail until his trial on May 10, 2027.
