Man Shot by ICE, Charged with Assault, Denies Gang Ties

0:00A judge in Central California just ruled that Carlos Ivan Mendoza Hernandez has to stay locked up with Albeil, mainly because he's seen as a flight, risk with his dual citizenship in El Salvador and Mexico. Back on April 7th, ICE agents pulled him over on Interstate 5 in Patterson, and things escalated quick, he's charged with assaulting a federal. Officer, after allegedly hitting an agent with his car, and then reversing into another vehicle. His lawyer, Patrick Colisinski, says Mendoza panicked when agents blocked him in, just trying to get away without hurting anyone, and evidence shows. His wheels were turning right before the first shots rang out, leaving him with multiple gunshot wounds that needed several surgeries. Officials called him a suspected gang member, wanted for a murder in El Salvador, but court docs they approve he was acquitted, and he's always denied. Any gang ties. The case heads to a status hearing on May 4th, and a preliminary one on May 5th, possibly leading to a grand jury, and Colisinski warns it'll be a, drawn out battle in court ahead.
