A 31-year-old man has been sentenced to more than four years in jail for a brutal domestic violence attack on his partner and for contempt of, court, during his trial. He was found guilty of aggravated, recklessly causing serious harm after smashing a plate over her head in early 2021, leaving her. With deep facial cuts that expose bone and required surgery, the judge noted he first punched her during an argument over car keys, then grabbed the plate. She ended up with broken pieces falling off her as she sat up, and he told her to lie to hospital staff about falling in the shower. The permanent scar runs from the top of her head down her face, serving as a constant reminder of the trauma. It has stopped her from returning to work as a hairdresser, where she would face mirrors all day.
