Man Convicted of Murdering Mother in Random Attack

0:00On March 23rd, a 24-year-old man from Leicester has been convicted of murdering a 56-year-old mother in a shocking random street, attack. Choukwe Mekka, Ahanonu, killed Nila Patel after his car flipped over near Leicester Royal infirmary on June 24th last year. Jurors at Leicester Crown Court delivered the guilty verdict on Monday after a month-long trial. Ahanonu had admitted to manslaughter but claimed diminished responsibility from heavy cannabis use. Jurors convinced the jury that being intoxicated did not excuse his actions. Miss Patel had just stepped off the bus and was heading home, chatting on her phone when Ahanonu grabbed her from behind. The assault left her with severe brain damage and she passed away in hospital two days later. Test later revealed his THC levels at 7.6 micrograms, well over the two microgram limit. Despite running a drugs operation while claiming benefits, he had only been out of prison for about a year on a prior weapons charge.
