This is Corey, keeping Birmingham in the know you're listening to Birmingham News today. A man in Foley, Alabama is behind bars after a family argument turned into a brutal assault on his wife and son. Deputies say Daniel Hernandez Lopez tried to strangle his wife at their home off Underwood Road on Monday evening. The trouble started around APM when Sheriff's deputies rushed to the scene following reports of the violence. According to the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office, the argument quickly escalated outside the house. The couple's 13-year-old son confronted his father, who then lunged at the boy and tried to hit him with a bicycle. The teen fought back hard, landing several punches to the man's face. Those blows may have knocked Hernandez Lopez unconscious until deputies got there. Officials described him as highly intoxicated and possibly under the influence of narcotics. He's charged with domestic violence strangulation and booked into Baldwin County Jail early Tuesday. He is not a U.S. citizen and it's unclear if he has a lawyer yet.
