Man Abandons Puppy at Airport, Faces Charges

0:00On March 23rd, a 42-year-old man from Texas named Omar Perez faces animal cruelty charges after leaving his chocolate-labored or puppy outside. Pittsburgh International Airport on Friday. He ditched the dog when airline rules blocked him from flying with it, according to Allegheny County Police. Officers on duty around 5 p.m. spotted the scared pup loose near the departure area and corralled it safely with help from bystanders. They posted cute photos online and quickly tracked Perez down before he could board his flight. People online flooded the police post with support, praising the dog's cuteness and offering to adopt it. Many vented anger at Perez, saying the pup dodged a bad life. Officers noted this isn't the first abandonment there, and stressed planning ahead for pet travel. Perez first blamed an uber driver, but soon admitted ownership. He's charged with a second degree misdemeanor cruelty count, plus summary offenses for cruelty and abandonment, carrying up to two years in jail and a slays, $5,000 fine if convicted.
