Luis Lara Wins Gold Glove, Shines in Brewers' System

Luis Lara, the 20-year-old center-fielder for the Milwaukee Brewer's AA affiliate in Biluxi, just won a Rawlings Goal Glove Award for his. Outstanding defense in the Southern League, he's the 4th straight player from that team to earn the honor, following shortstop Cooper Pratt last year, Jackson Cheerio in 2022, and Jefferson Quarrow in 2023. Lara posted a near-perfect point, 9-9-4-fielding percentage, with just two errors over 126 games and notch 10 assists. Team mates and coaches can't say enough about his skills. Shortstop Cooper Pratt called him the best outfielder he's ever played with, saying Lara catches everything. Brewer's manager, Pav Murphy, praised his energy and defense, labeling him a dark horse pick to click. First-based coach, Spencer Allen highlighted Lara's quick jumps, accurate throws, and hard work, noting big improvements in his game.

1:01At 5 feet 7 and 169 pounds, Lara fits right in with the Brewer's success with smaller players like South Frellick. Despite a solid arm, he shines through smart plays, quick transfers, and using momentum well. Allen believes his reads and acceleration could keep him in center-field even in the majors. Offensively, the switch hitter batted 257 last season with a 369 on-base percentage, two home runs, 40 RBI's, and 44 stolen bases in Beluxi's tough hitting park. Early in spring training, he's hitting 313. Lara says his bat matches his glove, and he's focused on proving it while improving his mental game and English. For now, a crowded depth chart means no opening day roster spot, with triple A Nashville likely next. Still, as the Brewer's ninth ranked prospect, Lara stays focused on what he can control, aiming for more gold gloves, and a big league breakthrough.
