Day two of LSU Spring Football, and we've got practice for it locked in LSU. Here we go. You are locked on LSU, your daily podcast on the LSU Tigers. Lane Kippen put his Tigers through a second workout in spring practice. Media again was allowed five periods of the individual drill. So we were there again for about between 25 and 30 minutes. Just a little less than 30 minutes out on the Ponderosa. The periods that we got to watch were outside.

2:01If you missed our first practice report from Tuesday, the first thing we saw when the team comes out is a hurry up. No huddle 11 on 11, ones on ones, twos on twos on separate fields. So they're happening simultaneously on fields that are parallel to one another and then they went into the individual periods. So one thing I missed after the first practice because of where we were position that I was able to see on day two was the first team offense. If you missed our first report, where they had the media position was on the West sideline. And the first team was run, so the second team was on the field where we were. And on the field opposite that parallel is where the ones were and we were blocked and couldn't see. Today on Thursday for day two, they allowed us to stay on that West sideline or the North end zone. So I was able to go in the North end zone and see the field with the ones. And I'll go to the first offense in a second, but I thought a greater significance actually was the first team defense

3:02as that was running through. Here was your starting defensive line. Now again, this is day, I want to pump the brakes and make sure you understand. Day two of spring practice. Long way to go, they don't even have pads on. And in a lot of times spring is used as an opportunity just to get looks at guys in different positions. So you have sort of your pole position when you get to fall camp. That's what these 15 practices are. Let's see how everybody looks, try a bunch of different stuff, get acclimated to a new system. So when you hit fall camp, boom, you know who you're starting with. And then you level you evolve throughout those those those battles for starting jobs. Well, your defensive line. I've left defensive end was Jordan Ross. The transfer from Tennessee at right defensive end was Prince Will, Umand Mielin, the number one transfer defensive end in the portal. Of course, Jordan Ross is the former five star. What was interesting, the most interesting part was your two interior defensive

4:02line and running with the ones who's too early and rollly true freshman. Doose Gerald's and Richard Anderson were running at first team defensive tackle. Now again, this was the hurry up no huddle period. We didn't get to watch team periods later in practice. That could change, but it is notable that day two, you have two true freshman early and rollies running with the ones when you have guys still like dominant McKinley and Malik blocked and transferring in from Auburn. It is notable. Those were the second team of defensive line. We're blocked in and Dom McKinley on the inside and your edges were Gabriel for it again, Gabriel efforts coming off an injury and Dylan Carpenter. That was your second team defensive line. So the rest of the first team defense get that was your starting defensive line. Your linebackers were TJ daughtery and Devon keys. It's important to note that with weeks still is out there, but not participating.

5:03So daughtery keys where you're starting linebackers. Your corner backs were DJ picket and PJ Woodland that should come as no surprise and your safeties were tie benefit and to Marcus Cooley. The star position was was with spears. So spears is a guy that we've talked about a good bit this off season who's played safety his first two years at LSU but is really a prototypical for that star position. A guy who's big and physical enough to play near the line of scrimmage but also an athletic defensive back who can cover. That's what you've sort of lacked the last two years where major burns was the physical at the line sort of safety, really a liability and coverage. Harold Perkins very good in space but maybe wasn't great turning and running in coverage. Now you have a guy that you hope is the perfect blend of that. So the Sean Spears was running as your first team safety. On the offensive side of the ball the offensive line you're for and this is what I'm most

6:05interested in the one sort of thing that's regrettable about the way they have this set up is where when they go to individual the offensive line group goes to to the far corner field. So we literally can't see anything the offensive line is doing when they go to individual and that's a position group that I think we all have great interest in because of how poor they were a year ago the turnover that you have there this year. So but your first team offensive line left to right. Jordan Seaton no surprise the Colorado transfer was your left tackle. Devon Harper was your left guard. Remember Devon Harper from Calvary Baptist in Louisiana was an LSU commit flip to Ole Miss red shirt of this year. The Ole Miss median I don't cover Ole Miss but the folks that do were of the belief that Harper was going to be the starting right tackle. This season at Ole Missley transfers to LSU when he was the first left guard out there. No surprise Braille and Moore first team center. Alouba was the starter the first team right guard again that should come as no surprise.

7:08Remember ba top 100 prospects signed with Georgia red shirted transfer to Maryland last two years starter at Maryland every game for two seasons there in the big 10 at right guard. So no surprise ba at right guard and then Western Davis at right tackle now. Do you want to throw out a caveat here because I also charted 79 wrapping in at right tackle. There is no 79 on the roster and there's a couple of these instances another one I'm going to tell you about in just a second. Remember on on Tuesday bow border lawn was playing right tackle. Well bow border lawn we know was 67 years ago there's no 67 on this roster. So it could very well be they just need to update the roster for us but but Weston Davis was at right tackle as well during the ones. Landon Clark was the first team quarterback not who saw in Longstreet. So it's two days in a row now where Landon Clark has run with the first team at quarterback in the absence of of of Sam Levit who's doing individual drills and throwing but not running

8:14and doing all the team stuff. Threda's green was your first team tied in. Kaden Durham was your first team running back in your receivers. Or Jace Brown Jackson Harris and Winnie Watkins. That's the other one. Winnie Watkins on the roster is listed as number eight. But he was wearing number six at practice which is is odd because you have who's on Longstreet wearing six also TJ daughtery wears number six. So you can't have three number sixes. Remember you can't have a player on with the same jersey number on the field at the same time. So if who's on Longstreet is wearing six then Winnie Watkins can't wear six. So on the roster he's eight but at practice we believe that's Watkins wearing six. We haven't gotten that answer finally. But is interesting to see those guys out there and how that all sort of transpired with the first team running around a little bit. I have some other observations I don't want to get to. The for whatever it's worth your second team defense we shared with you.

9:15Share with you defensive line. Your cornerbacks were Michael Turner and Jakeem Jackson. Your linebackers were Zach Weeks and Tylan Singleton and then your safeties were Fahim Delane and Jace Thomas. So that was your second team defense as well. There's a few other observations I have. So that's just important as a sort of starting note. A few other observations I have from practice that I want to get to. Let me knock out our first break and we'll come back here and I'll give you my other practice observations from our 30 minutes or so. It's locked on LSU your team every day. 13:23also to file in green the transfer from Clemson absent for a second consecutive day as was Damien Shanklin the edge so two straight days we haven't seen those guys out there it's also notable that remember when LSU hired this staff remember a year ago Kevin Peoples was the edge where he came here as the edge coach and you know Kyle Williams decided not to continue his coaching career and they hired Sterling Lucas and so the thought was Lucas would coach the interior line well on the roster the official coaching roster Sterling Lucas is listed as the defensive line coach and Kevin Peoples is now listed as the interior defensive line coach and that is reflected in what we see Kevin Peoples is out there at practice working with the defensive tackles whereas Lucas is working with the edge rushers now of course when they come together and team periods there were but an individual it's peoples with the tackles and it's Sterling Lucas with the edge rushers at practice a couple of other things that I that I thought were notable

14:28Ty Benefield just looks incredible like looks the part they have he's the safety transfer from Boise State he's looked at six three two oh wait he is long and he is filled out they were running interception drills where the safety was at the line of scrimmage and this sort of had to they had a back pedal run and leap and grab an interception again against air but physically you can just see that this is a different this is a due with different skill with a different physical skill set as we noted Richard Anderson looks looks great running with the ones in the in the team period but in the individual drills it's hard not to notice Dom McKinley Dom McKinley is of course a former five star from Akadiana that was third season in Baton Rouge six six two ninety seven is where they have him listed so under 300 pounds he looks awesome and sometimes like this will make sense just on a human level think about what your body was like at 18 compared to 21 right those sometimes

15:30those three two three years of physical development just as your body is physically maturing and then also in a college strength conditioning program you can see the transformation with Dom McKinley you're starting to look like a giant man now instead of a a young player oversized in his body so I thought that was impressive um I also noticed the way Blake Baker and Chris Kiffin are bouncing around so um Baker was on Tuesday working with the star linebackers and some guys like Dylan should be Keel and Moses Zach Weeks Devon Keys well on Wednesday or excuse me Thursday you saw the Sean Spears Aiden Hall CJ Jim Coley those are sort of your your star linebacker positions that were out there while you know the period that I was watching with Chris Kiffin he was out there with Devon Keys Zach Weeks um uh the O'Grace who the O'Grace was working with

16:36Blake Baker on on Tuesday that we told you about um there was a Keel and Moses bounce back and forth between the two on on Thursday as well so that that was interesting also uh Traylon James who's a defensive back transfer from southern he was working with the safeties he played both corner and safety at southern that's probably a depth piece that maybe you're looking forward to in the future how he may develop into that role but um but one to file away there with Traylon James in that period I spent more time watching the the defensive backs on Thursday whereas I watched the quarterbacks and receivers on Tuesday so if you want that report you can catch that from Tuesday's episode the next availability that we're going to have is going to be on Saturday where we're going to get a full 30 minutes no video or camera opportunities just the opportunity to come watch which tells me they're probably going to let us see a little bit more uh if they make us turn the cameras off the means we're probably going to get to see more that they don't want recorded right so um we'll look forward to having that report for you here on Lockdown LSU sometimes Saturday late
