It's great to have Logan Stanley for the first time here on Sabers Live. How are you doing? I'm doing good. I can't shoot you guys having me. A little wealth above the right eye. Yeah. A little welcoming. How many of these zippers there? Four, but I heard there's, there's, what do you call it? Workers' Company. Yeah, it's Dr. Rob Graham. I did it.

4:01That's why he learned of it undoubtedly. None of that in Canada, so. Thanks a little bit of time. For what I put on the board for the boys yesterday. That's a good thing. Yeah. And it's that, that's a fun time of year, right? When new guys are in and the team is winning. And there's money on the board for, you know, the newcomers. So, like, I don't want to ask how much. But were you the only one with money on the board yesterday? Oh, it was a pretty heavy board actually. I think maybe Tucky played in his 600th game. He did. Yeah. Is that sound right? So he had some cash up there. I think they convinced owner to put up for first 20 gold season. Oh. So I picked them into that one. Little peer pressure. Little peer pressure, yeah. And then, yeah, I threw a little up for the boys and a little bit for the trainers for all the help they've done for me. So how far in advance did you know that you were playing? I found out. I'd have to look at my phone, but probably three o'clock. I got my visa and, yeah, Lindy called me and asked if I wanted to play.

5:04I said, yeah, sure. So that was that. And then I got back from the border office at 330, had a shower and came to the ring, ready to go. Yeah. Oh, luckily. I mean, with the border being closed, it's, you know, it's not that long of a trip to try to go and get it done. But you never know. So did you go in on the ice in the morning thinking like it could happen? Or were you thinking Thursday night at the earliest? I thought Thursday at the earliest. We, uh, we rinsed ourselves pretty good in the morning. I think we were on the ice at eight. Uh, you know, Shenner had just got in and Pierce and they kind of wanted to get their legs going. So I jumped in with them and, uh, yeah, I thought I was going to get a haircut yesterday. Maybe I have an app and, uh, things changed pretty quickly. But it was nice to get the first one out of the way. You know, I was nervous, new team, new group and, and obviously, uh, they're rolling right now. So try not to mess it up. I was really thinking that for you, like how that must be a challenge to not want to be, you know, yourself when you're out there, like you're just trying to fit in.

6:05So does the early fight actually somehow make you feel even more a part of it and more in tune with, with your game or, or I think, because I'm assuming that also then kind of brings your energy level up. So high that you got to breathe a little bit after that. Yeah, maybe brought the energy up, but I think cleared some of the nerves. Kind of, you know, got into the game that way. And, um, I just wanted to show the boys that I'm here to compete and help win. And, um, you know, that was, uh, a good start. So I, uh, right away went to hockey fights.com. I'm like, I wonder if he's fought this guy before. If there's a, some, um, you know, anger against San Jose, because obviously being in Winnipeg, you would play them a little bit more. I think you fought Wendberg one time in, uh, with the San Jose sharks. No, Middleton. Middleton. Yeah, it was good. Wendberg might have, yeah. It was Middleton, but you also fought Middleton with Minnesota. Yeah, I've had a few good goals with him. But, like, so I couldn't find anything. And I'm like, is it just, uh, so did you talk to him before to draw?

7:05How did that all end up? He was asking a few of the boys. Um, you know, I know he asked, uh, Sammy Carrick and, uh, um, a few of the other guys. So, um, you know, I thought it was a good opportunity to, you know, he didn't ask me. So I asked him and, um, you know, we went and, uh, he was a tough kid. It was a good scrap. That was a good scrap. New team, new systems, your coach in Winnipeg was Scotty Arneal. Actually coached Whit Lindy Ruff and, you know, Scotty is a Saber's alumni. He was an assistant coach for me. As he, did he add the same system or similar system as, as what Lindy Ruff is trying to do, knowing that these two coach together before? Yeah, similar, but there's some, some differences for sure. Um, you know, I kind of went over to me yesterday, but, uh, you're taking in so much. It's kind of, you know, trying to process it all. I thought yesterday getting into the game and, and, you know, seeing it from the bench and being in the situation helps, uh, learn on the fly and pick it up as we go.

8:08How was that because we have seen the really interesting usage of the six defenseman here of late? Because it hasn't been a traditional locked in three pairs. There's been a lot of mixing and matching for Kesselring and Metza. So did you find some early stability with Kesselring? You know him? You got a little background with it? Um, yeah, I don't really know him. I just, um, my defense partner and minor hockey from my, I think I was eight to, to 15 played with him at college. So we have a mutual connection there and, and, uh, had a good laugh about him. So, um, yeah, it was great last night. Lots of talk and, and, uh, easy guy to play with. Skates well. Moves the puck well. So, um, let me nice to get on the ice with them a little bit more. And, uh, you know, find out what their tendencies are. And, and, you know, we'll go from there. Do you like a traditional left on the left, right on the right? Um, and the fact that you guys are both big guys like you've got an active stick. Or have you been seeing some, you know, you see Dalline and Samlison and power and biome?

9:10Like they're all lefties playing together. Um, so what do you prefer when it comes to defense? Yeah, I've mainly been, been lefty righty. They, they really liked that in Winnipeg. Um, but I've also played on the right side, played with a lefty on the right side. Um, you know, and then you watch those, those guys, uh, that you just mentioned play. They obviously have a lot of chemistry and have been playing together for a long time. So they kind of work off each other and, you know, they end up on opposite sides. And, and, um, they're all great skaters. So they, uh, you know, get themselves out of trouble with their feet and, and it's fun to watch. I'll assume you didn't have a big entourage here last night because of the late notice about playing. No, no, my dad managed to drive down for the game. So that was nice to see him after. It's, uh, it's a short drive. I think, you know, under two hours. Good. It'll be good. I'm sure there'll be, uh, a few more people coming, uh, maybe this weekend. Did you go back, um, to your hometown in the summertime before? Or what was, you know, obviously when you leave? Like, I left Quebec City and there was years where I would go every summer for a couple of weeks.

10:13And there was years where, well, maybe it didn't happen. What was your, you know, when it pegged to back home and being able to visit the family and have him come to games? Yeah, yeah. We, we go back there in the summer. We spend our summers there. We got a good group of guys to skate and train with. Um, Tanner Pearson actually being one of them. Okay. Um, so we've been working out and skating together for, you know, 10 years now. And this is where? In the kitchen or one of the, yeah, Ontario. So, um, yeah, but it's nice to have family close, uh, you know, uh, girlfriend and I have a three-year-old daughter. So, the grandparents are extremely happy to be, you know, two-hour drive over two-hour flight. So, that'll be fun. And, uh, yeah, I'm sure we'll get some company down the road. So any other deeper hockey connections with any of the guys in the room or the organization? No, not much. You know, I didn't really know anyone coming in.

13:13So it was nice to come with a couple familiar faces and kind of get to know the guys. I think I did World Junior Camp with Mallee and he might have been my roommate. I'll have to ask him about it, but the phone rang and he answered the phone and kind of handed to me and he goes, it's for you and I didn't make the team. So I had the same and Brad Larson was my roommate 5.30 in the morning, phone call, and I'm rolling over with the pillow over. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hoping that you, Marty, it's for you. Oh, yeah, yeah. That's the worst. That was a good happen. Character builder, right? Yeah, exactly. You're here now. And you, you've got nine goals this year. Like what happened? We know Mattia San Wilson, like at an offensive, like boom, this year. And you went from one, one, one, one, one, nine. Like anything different?

14:14I think, you know, confidence I got a couple early in the year and you know, I've worked really hard at it. Over the years, you know, few years ago I had a tough year with injuries. I broke my ankle and then first came back, high ankle sprain on the same ankle. I think I ended up missing 60 or 65 games that year. And then the next year in Winnipeg, we were really deep. And didn't play a ton. And you know, when you're playing one every four or five games, you're not getting into a rhythm. You're not really developing. So I thought last year was a good step. I played a lot of hockey and kind of found my game again. And this year came in with a ton of confidence. And, you know, some opportunity thrown at me right at the start of the year and took advantage of it. Now Buffalo, obviously, wings, food, the people, the sabers, the bills. If I say to you, Logan Berry, does that ring a bell? Logan Berry. Yeah.

15:14I don't think so. Okay, so I think it's about two. It's about two. So right, about 15 minutes before the show, I'm like, oh, forgot. I wanted to go and get Logan Berry. Rented a gas station, found so crystal beaches. The last one on the Canadian side. Okay, crystal beach. It's on the Canadian side. It was a very, very popular place for people to go and have like the attraction park and all of that. And they used to do crystal beach original Logan Berry. And it's a great, great lake. You go to it. It is a staple here. It's a staple, especially among you. So I'm presenting you with the last one. The last one at gas station. I'm going to have to try. Yeah, I have to try it. So, you know, I know the razor said Logan Stanley yesterday. He said Lord Stanley. Lord Stanley, yes. But I said. It's smooth, it's good. It's very smooth, it's really good. It's really good. I'll save it for later. Early ringing endorsement. Yeah. Yeah. This is our first saver's life taste test. There you go. I know.

16:14I wanted to get four. I want to get everybody in on it. The only ad one. But I guess it was worth. I walk in there. And there's a couple of Coca-Cola guys. They're like, Marty, looking for some Coke products. I'm like, actually, no, I'm looking for Logan Barry. They've shown me right away where it was. So, I got it done. But, yeah. Appreciate it. You've come fully stocked. You've got, you have a coffee and water on the go. Coffee and water. Yeah. And now a Logan Barry's doing so. I'm good to go for the rest of the day. Yeah. For the rest of the week. Yeah. If I had that, Duffer, you imagine? I would not want to imagine that. As you might know, he tends to talk a lot and brings a really high energy, which I appreciate. But, you know, and the energy is a funny thing. Like, you mentioned having it last night and obviously there's a scrap. I couldn't help but notice. And so, that's part of your characters. You stand up for teammates. Well, you played at one point with former Saber prospect, Brendan Lemieux. How many times did you have to stand up for his antics? Yeah. I played with him, I think, with the moose for a little bit. And I don't know if we overlapped in NHL, but that man is a character for sure.

17:18And, yeah, we got into it practice a few times. And, you know, he wears his heart on his sleeve. Oh, yeah. Yeah, he was a... I actually played with him in junior, too. Okay. That's where I first noticed it. Yeah. Yeah. First time I met him, I don't know if I should even tell this story, but I came into the gym. First day meeting him. First day was there. And he was, you know, buck naked in the gym doing curls. And I'm like, what is wrong with this guy? So, that was my intro to Brendan Lemieux. And, you know, every once in a while, we'll keep in contact. But, yeah, he was a character, for sure. So, this is a fun thing because hockey is a community. You meet people. You probably would never think you get along with or vice versa. But you get treated and you mention coming in with Pearson and Shen. What can you tell us about those two guys? Obviously, you know, like we had Nicole Brown on the show, Dustin Brown and Nicole Brown were in LA with Tanner Pearson.

18:19When a cop, they're here. And he was excited to be coming and wanting to know about Buffalo. But we don't know a lot about those guys. Like, what can you tell us about Shen and Pearson? Yeah, I think they're both good guys that they're going to fit right into the room. No one appears a long time, obviously. And he's going to be great. He can kind of play all over your lineup, do whatever you want. If you need him to, you know, fill a hole in the top six. He's more than capable. And then, you know, if he's playing in that bottom six role, he's got a great stick. He's good on the kill. And, you know, Shen brings experience, toughness, and obviously one Stanley Cups and been on good teams. So that's going to be great. Been in the league for a long time. So he's kind of seen it all. And, you know, I think he can help because the team is younger and maybe a little bit of that veteran presence. And, you know, he's been through Stanley Cup runs as his Pearson. Yeah, I think they're both fitting great here. Did you ever imagine you'd see one of the games all time, penalty minute leaders standing on a box to try to see you eye to eye?

19:21No, I tried to get on the box actually after the game, but he didn't let me. He wanted to get up there. So I'm going to have to look up. I've seen a few of his fights and that is a tough man. Tough man. Like, there's a robbery rule in the NHL. The reason why everybody's got to tie down now. And you cannot have your jersey come over the top is because of Razor. Because Razor not only would have his jersey come over the top, he would Velcro shoulder pads under jersey and wouldn't wear an undershirt. So when the jersey came up, there was nothing to grab on. Yeah, that would be just fine. And he and Tidomi had all these fights. And, you know, there's a great to find it on YouTube. The Ray Dome documentary that the Sabers produced. They sit down and watch every one of their fights together. Oh, yeah. Unbelievable. It was really cool. Is there one guy that you have fought more often in the NHL? You mentioned Middleton. Yeah, Middleton a few times, three or four. And actually his brother played in Saginaw when I was in Windsor.

20:24So I fought his brother four or five times too, I think in junior. So, and I grew up with them. They're from Stratford and we grew up playing Spring hockey with the younger one Keaton. So they're great guys, but yeah, we seem to go at it quite a bit. You have siblings? Yeah, I got a younger brother who's an absolute mutant. He's 65, you know, 250 pounds and strong as an ox. Did he play? No, he did play. He still does play senior hockey, but he was rugby player. Oh, wow. Yeah, he played Team Canada rugby and he was good at that game. Man, that is such a test for us. Oh, yeah. So what was the dynamic? I have a younger brother that is a mutant as well, he's 67 and 245 and he played in the NHL. And there was a moment in my life where I realized he was bigger and stronger than me. And now all of a sudden I tried to be his best friend. Yeah. But I used to beat up on him a lot. I had the same thing. Same thing. Yeah, I used to beat down on him all the time until one day he hit me and that's the last time I picked on him.

21:25Because he, yeah, he looks for it and, you know, I'm a little bit scared of him. Well, you build this there. He's got a switch in him too where he goes from happy to he wants to, you know. No, I want to meet your brother. Uh-huh. Yeah, he'll be around. He'll be around. I want him on the broadcast. I want to know. I want to know all about him. That's great. Enjoy the Logan Berry.
