Fred and Dolly Oesterreich appeared to be a typical upper-middle-class couple in 1920s Los Angeles. He was a hardworking factory owner. She was charming, social, and always impeccably dressed. Their home was comfortable, their life routine—until one summer night, when everything shattered.

Dolly said it started with a strange noise in the house. Minutes later, Fred was dead—shot three times in what she described as a robbery gone wrong. The crime scene left investigators puzzled, but with no suspects and no motive beyond what Dolly reported, the case faded… at first.

But over time, strange details began to surface. Questions that didn’t have easy answers. Why were some things in the home disturbed—but not stolen? Why did Dolly seem a little too prepared for what came next? And most importantly: what was she hiding?
