The Sevan Podcast — LIVE | Colten Mertens CF Quarter Finals Workout 3. Machine-transcribed; use the interactive transcript above to jump the player to any line.
quarterfinals are almost a rap, a rough scoreboard. Colton Merton's leading workout one workout two and workout four based on what we know. Lexus Raptus and Fisi Gaffi just did workout number three, which we are going to see Colton do today. Of course, Tudor Magda set the incredible time of three, 59. The workout, we will go over again, but just a quick recap of it. Three rounds of 50 double unders, 10 dead lifts and then two rounds of 50 double unders, 10 dead lifts and then one round of 50 double unders, 10 dead lifts, ascending weight in the dead lifts. Colton will be doing 225, 275, and 315 crazy, crazy workout. The times are absolutely bonkers.
I head on over to bornprimitive.com to save 70% on sports bras, leggings, trainings, training, training shorts, performance teas, loungewear, one or drain our spring clearance event. Let's grab our best selling savage one, training shoes starting at just $75 sale and Sunday. Colton Merton's won the 2026 CrossFit open, just beating out Jeffrey Adler, former CrossFit Games champion. We're going to see everything in the quarterfinals has gotten just a little bit heavier, a little bit faster, 25% went to the next level after the open. One of the largest registrations ever for the quarterfinals, absolutely massive participation, participation, participation, participation this year. So it'll be really impressive if Colton holds this. Thoughts, Matt Sousa on whether Colton holds the, is going to win the quarterfinals? Yeah, I mean, tutors time on this is going
to be tough to beat, but I think he'll do it, especially because he has a time. Like the other workouts, he kind of maybe knew some times or like roughly what it could be, but like he's got something to go after. So I think that makes it even more of an advantage for him. And we don't really know anyone else's times. And so it's a really small list that we've just cobbled together, just from what we're seeing out in the, in the sphere, in the sphere. I wonder if, yeah, the reason why I'm, I'm my only doubt that he's not going to win the quarterfinals is that he doesn't seem as to have a leader as usual. What do you think, Caleb? I don't know. He's, he's looking pretty good. He's very locked in. He's very, very fit. And you think he's saying it very seriously. So I think he's, he wants to do well. He wants to get those top scores. And I think a lot of these are in his wheelhouse. So I feel like he's pretty good. Brad, official rulebook guy, official senior rulebook guy in the CrossFit space. Is it a
requirement? It's definitely, obviously, it's an easy one to start off, Brad, for your first question ever on the rulebook. Yes. Okay. Do you need somebody to smash your butt cheeks together? Hey, you know, tutors, yeah, yeah, you need Shane or behind you really, really making sure the rep is clean. But no, I mean, tutor, what was impressive to his tutor didn't play around with the deadlift standard at all. Like even the shoulder behind the bar that sometimes you see people really skirt the line a little bit and keep the shoulder over the bar, go down to the next rep. He really made his lock out clear. I think Colton will do the same. He's just such a clean mover. I was thinking that Alexis's standups were suspect. But I froze every single one that I thought was suspect. And when you freeze them, he's standing up all the way. So it is, it is hard to tell. I don't know if the implication he was saying it was fee or tutor or Alexis, are those the only three we've seen go so far on that have the the boys interrupted done that one? I don't think the
boys have gone yet. Yeah, yeah, it's only one. Also, too, I just like to point out like that it's really cool how many of these athletes are going live, which we've never seen stuff like this before. Scores has always been protected and kind of posted up last minute, but between the girls doing it, the girls, it's not the girls in erupted, is it? No, what's the name of it again? The girls filter girls on filter girls. Yes, the bread of girls. Them and the boys have placed interrupted and then even crossfit doing their their thing with it has been really cool to see this year. So that's awesome. We are nine minutes away from starting. We now have the stream from proven headquarters owned by Tia, the greatest ever do it in Shane or her husband in Nashville, Tennessee. When we come back, we'll start looking at that stream. Some days start for the sun and end long after the work is done. Dirt, sweat, iron. It all leaves a mark.
Hog scrub is built for the reset. Wash off the day. Keep the grid. Head on over to Merton's homestead products, subscribing it so the best way you can support Colt Merton. He has been a pioneer in just being as transparent as possible. Everyone loves him on Instagram. Everyone loves his videos. We asked him to do this. He didn't hesitate even for a second. There's the bars. So the way they're doing is everyone doing it with three bars or is anyone actually adding weights? No, three bars, triangle of death. That's the way to do it. Your adding weights are fucked. Tudor did two bars and he had the 225 starting bar. He had two ladies add on. So like
weights one and three, he had all of section two to finish and they added on 45 to create the 315. So they let people do that. We need to do anything quick. I don't think that in the open. If they did, we're going to find out. Were they card girls? Were they bikinis? Yeah, they were. That would be amazing to have card girls. Sorry, I'm you did. That would be amazing to have card girls. Each round each round. This is three round workout. You just have card girls walk out. You like that, Caleb? It's spectacular, dude. That's a brilliant idea. We really need that. Hey, if we started now, tears later, everybody else will do it. The only way we can become mainstream is if we bring out card girls. Let's be right. Thanks for bar still. In the shot there, Colt Merton's in the CEO shirt, white CEO shirt, and then Mr. Paulsen over there in the proven shirt with the enormous biceps. We got looks like we have a clock out on the right
for those you want to see the official clock. It looks like four. It looks like he has four judges, five judges. Wi-fi is better there now. Crazy. Oh, no, it's a little pixelated. It is funny how that Wi-fi has been completely fine and then pixelated and then fine and then pixelated. Man, I am the chosen one today, huh? You are. You have to buy a lot or take it. Taylor's self, the most knowledgeable man about all workouts. Who does them? How they do? Taylor does he beat the 359 time? No, I hate to say it, but no. His double unders are just not as fast. His double unders are because his deadlifts are going to be so fast, but the thing about tutors double unders is they take 23 seconds for a set of 50. Most people are like 26 to 28 seconds. That's right. It's so fast.
His tutors double unders are insane. He did have a trip, so there's a chance for Colton. Big exciting to watch. Hey, this morning went perfect. My alarm went off. I got up, coffee maker worked perfect. I took a shit. My wife gave me a standing. My kids that loved me and hugged me. And now you fuck the whole thing up by saying he's not going to be a tutor. Oh, I thought you were going to say because I was late. That too. I missed it. Well, but you're here. Cool. I don't know. I mean, he could. I just don't. I don't know. I don't know that anyone beats tutor. I think if any, here's the real deal. I think if anyone's going to be tutor, it's probably down because down's the one person who can cycle double unders as fast as tutor. And I think down's just fitter. You think Colton cycle right on the deadlifts will matter here? Do you think he gets cycle? I think it'll matter. I just don't, I think it'll matter. I just, I don't know if it's going to be enough to outweigh 50 dubs slower than tutor. I just don't know. We'll see. We'll have to see if he's been working on a cycle rate. Last year in the open. Yeah, it was that no. It was the year before last where we had the deadlift double under
row workout where he was at the shred shed with mediris. His double unders were super slow. So he's just got to be faster. Will Colton. Do you think that's close to something Colton's been working on? Do you think he knows that going into this like, hey, is it worth taking the risk of going faster on the double unders? I think he should be taking a risk. I think he definitely knows that's where he's going to have to push pretty hard. We're just going to have to see if he's been working on it. Double under speed is such a niche thing. It's not something that like, I don't view it as something that a lot of the top athletes really train too much because that the games is just such a, it matters in the open and it matters in something like quarter finals. But outside of that, it's really rare for double under cadence or double under cycle rate to play a factor in like a regional or a games event. It's usually if there's a lot of double unders at regionals with the games, it's heavy rope or it's a high enough volume with enough other stuff where it just becomes fitness and the cycle rate is less important. It's more important to recover on them. I would assume, and again, this is a presumption, an assumption that Colton is
so good in the open and online competitions. He's probably not looking for other ways to get better in the open and online competition. He's probably spending majority of his training time getting better at things he's going to need to perform at the games, running, rope climbs, etc. So we'll see. Chris Johnson, 499, shout out to Sentinel coaches. Thank you for being so responsive, best coaches in programming. Matt Sousa. Well, I was going to say, when we took the the jump rope course here with Dave Newman from our ex-jump rope, he talked about a double under workout where they were going to give Tia a slightly shorter rope. And she was like, no, this is the length I've always used. And she was pretty equal. I think he had claimed it's like lower whorebath and that workout. It could have this exact wrong. But that she just edged out Tia and that was came down to the double and one way or the rope length on her double unders because the slightly shorter rope cycles quicker. And there's people, a special treat also just so you guys know, Chris, I bar across the game's athlete, we'll be doing this with Colton Mariners. Colton looks happier than normal. That scares me Taylor. So, um, and here's the thing. Here's the reality. A lot, like an athlete like Tia,
she's so good at everything else across the board. She wants to keep her double under a skill that allow her to recover when she's doing them. So maybe to her, it's okay. I don't want to go out of my way to take five steps back when it's already a movement that I can recover on regardless of if it makes my cycle right that much faster. She's going to win the open if she does the open regardless of her double double under cycle rate. So for her, she's thinking probably, hey, it's a recovery movement for me. I don't want to I don't want to ruin a good thing. Taylor, self-dropping crossfit wisdom bombs. Caleb Beaver on the clock, Brad Aceraph, to talk in case you run out of stuff to say and Matt Susan the bottom square. It's good to be back. It's good to be back boys. They tried to shut us down. They tried to lock us up. We're back. We are bowed. My day kicks off with the refreshing Celsius energy drink, then straight to the gym. Pre-get pick up, back home to meal prep, time for my fire session shift. One more Celsius gotta keep the lights on. When the three alarm hits, I'm ready. Celsius, live, fit, go. President Barack Obama. Virginia, we are counting on you. Republicans want to steal enough seats in Congress to raid the next election and wield unchecked power for two more years, but you can stop them by voting yes by April 21st. Help put our elections back on a level playing field and let voters decide not politicians. Vote yes by April 21st. Paid for by Virginians for fair elections. Whenever we go to commercial, he pushes the button, so it comes back to him guys.
Nick Johnson CEO of proven just walked off to the left in the gray sweatshirt. What I don't understand, I see, so Colton is only going to do two bars and so is I barra, and it looks like they're going to have people put the weights on for them. What a guess that proven couldn't afford three barbells per athlete. Maybe they just wanted just like a back-and-forth cadence or something like that. Like I think they have a way to pick the challenge. Yeah, you know, I mean, they just want to include team members. Yeah, but it looks like they're doing what Tudor did where the weight one and weight three are going to be the same barbell. Yeah, real quick comment. I like the Savage ones, but the tongue isn't great. Wish it was like the strike movement tongue, then it would be the perfect shoe. They have fixed the tongue issue on the Savage ones. The original one did have some issues, and it would slide not to the right or left, like the nanos, but it would slide down back into your shoe.
And they have they have fixed that. They've got a little place you can run the lace through on the back of the tongue now. Yeah, and that tongue, that tongue will get you, dude. If you like, if you like getting tongueed, the born primitive Savage one will tongue you. Oh. The best, the, the most huge sound effect, and most all about appropriately used also, so I love that one. And second countdown. Okay, here we go. Oh my God. That was just a practice countdown. Well, they're all approving. They are. You are tripping Brad. I was like, he was a lot less. A second countdown. He is all. Did you see the 10? He said, I've all company. Hey, do you have your pen and paper, Brad? Well, hi, I mean, yeah, yeah, you're right. Sorry. I'm ready. Get the ledger. The ledger. Hold Merton holds unofficially first place on three of the workouts. This is workout number three. There were four workouts in the quarter finals. They could do them in any order they wanted. Scores will be finalized at noon.
Well, they have to all be in by noon on Monday. But Colton will be done with the quarter finals here in Saturday morning. Brad, do you think you could do double? I'll do double unders on a 10 rep cadence. I'll just count 10s. You want me to keep track of every 10? No, no, I'll do that. I'll do that. Don't worry, dude. I got this. I got you just right. You just write stuff down, Brad. I was going to do when he finishes. Now, one, go. Here we are. We're off. Man. Yeah, I think the two bars is going to be a faster transition time. Like somebody else. Some of the things somebody said that in the comments as well. I think it's moving from one to the other. You have plenty of time to get it switched out with the proven pick crew there. I think he's one behind four. It's going to be close to that same cycle rate as Tudor. 50. Well, let's slip up. And that's at 29 seconds for
that first set. It would have been 27 or 26. So he's right there in line with Tudor's times. Also to the placement of the jump rope on the ground, too, probably matters. It's on pace with Tudor. I know Tudor's first round was 37 seconds. Oh, gosh, 42 for Colton. It's crazy, too. He's taken the training wheels off. He doesn't have Shane behind him at the end of each one lift rep. It looks like he's standing him up on his own now. You think he has like a phantom feeling, sir? Yeah, he feels the hands. He's been branded enough. It's right. He could still feel it. 748.950. I wonder if that trip up came just with him trying to rush that first set a little bit. He passed by Barra there on the deadlift. He got to the bar second the first time and then first the second time. He did. He did. Yeah. Wow. Yeah, he's even quick. 126. Oh, my goodness.
Things like the little tiny things like that, because now Barra has caught back up with him just for the fact that that rope got caught on his foot and he dropped the handle. If that happens, I just stare at the handle for like 30 seconds. You're like, fuck, that sucks. 40. That's what I do when there's splatter on the backseat. I'm like, I just stare at the 30 seconds and ponder like, come on, holding it down, right back up. Now he's behind him. There he is. He is cycling. I was about to get a deadlift. It is quicker for sure. There it is. Come on. I mean, so he's right in front here again. So the first two jump ropes on that one. First two jump ropes. Colton had an error. Yeah, tripped up in the first side and then got caught on his foot. Colton's third bar is being prepared now. Man, it's going to be 30 close. He slowed down each interval. First hole set, 42 seconds,
second one, 44 seconds, third one, 45 seconds. 50. 10. Back of 10 here. Good. Man, those are fast. Yeah, those are quick, man. And he's 75 on the bar. His pit crew has already done his weight set up. So 44 seconds, he went back. Okay, come on, come on. 10. He's not beaten tooter. 20. Up or behind him is the time now. How do you know that? 30. He's got to finish just round in the next one. Man, it's that damn quick. Yeah, it's crazy. He's got an extra handle to swing the up with. Yeah, just shows you how this is just yet of deadlifts.
He's got 20, he's got 20 seconds to beat tooter. Yeah, so he's not going to make it. Man, that's insane. That is insane. Just shows you how quick tooter was. It's crazy that Raptus got 411. Dude. Okay, so 2 years time is coming up here right now. We're at the 4 minute mark. 40. Probably there's probably 10 seconds of, you know, trips for him. Yeah. Yeah. Wow. 421. Yeah. Wow. Holy shit, man. So even if, even if you gave him like, you know, five seconds on each of those trip ups, the first one where he reset, then what I got a hundred is put 10 seconds. You subscribe to him. He's still only out 411.
435 by Barra. Crazy. He looks like he's ready to do three more rounds. Yeah, for sure. Joseph Ramirez do's for today 499. Thank you, brother. Much, much, much appreciated. Make sure you guys head on over to Merton's Homestead products and support your favorite prospect. Some days start before the sun. An end long after the work is done. Dirt, sweat, iron. It all leaves a mark. Hog scrub is built for the reset. Wash off the day. Keep the grid. We'll be back in 15 seconds to talk to cold Merton's himself. Waterfile was built from the ground up just like you. You need a partner who understands your business and a platform that helps you run it like a well-oiled machine.
The founder hustle never stops and you wouldn't have it any other way. We're waterfile. We're built to build you up. You just watched cold Merton's do workout number three of the 2026 CrossFit quarter finals final score 421. Time to beat was 359 for the fastest time we know of today. I borrow also got a 435. He was there in the background. I think home will be with us very shortly. He didn't seem too fatigued. Is he wounded from this, Taylor? No. This workout did not make me sore or tired at all. So he's ready to go. He just needs to put the small talk with the valor fit guy and we will be off. Taylor, I got a question. He did this, bro. Workout was under-programmed. No, it's the top and the percent. It pushes a games workout or a semi-finals workout? Maybe, but it's. Yeah, because I could have seen like a 275, 315, 365.
There's clearly enough separation. He didn't, you know what I mean? Yes, it was 20 seconds, you know. So. Colton, what, what, what, that's all, that's all, that's all, that's all, that's all. Merton's homestead products, get your soap now. Two came out with two hiccups. Did that get in your head for the rest of the workout? No, I was thinking about it like dammit. That's just free time. I'm giving away. I thought about restarting on the first round. I tripped it like 47 and 48. I would have been. I would have been. I would have restarted. That was the thing that I was done. Andy would have been like, Andy would have been like, I'm like, just restarted the whole thing. I love how your new Mike senses yourself that. Your deadlifts at the end look faster than your deadlifts at the beginning. Let me and I noticed that one of your other workouts too. You were picking up speed. Maybe it was in the hang squat clean one. Are you warming up enough?
I think so. I got here like an hour and a half before I started growing out. And drinking my pre-workout and whatnot. But yeah, I think like you get into a workout still a bit of stopping the face and say, okay, it's time to go now. Like now we're in the fight. And I think that you lose a little bit of that like controlledness. Like you start out on this workout. It's kind of like a controlled sprint. You don't want to make any mistakes. And then once you get going, it's kind of that rip. They didn't feel faster like the 225 bar felt fastest. Because I was going it up. I once I got past my knees. I wasn't bringing it to my thighs and finishing the pull. It's going straight to my hips. That's usually a little bit faster. But down the the hangs squat clean one. That was just a change in strategy. Do you think that the rope hiccups happen because you were you knew tutors time and you knew you were going to have to really push those faster than you were comfortable? I don't think tutor knowing to your time had an effect on it.
I think that I just knew I was going to have to push them as fast as I could. And I think that in training, I don't do a ton of workouts where it's like shorter sets of double owners, but they're for speed. It's a lot more bigger sets and really a lot more. We do a ton of weighted jump ropes and drag ropes, things like that. So I'm not as coordinated as I'm trying to go really fast. Like a max sprint with shorter sets on the speed rope. Hey, guys, historically speaking, have we ever seen a workout that was so dependent on the speed of the double owners? I know that there's been workouts where it's important that you don't fuck them up. But have you guys ever seen workouts open workout 20? Yeah, open workout from 2023 or 2020. Maybe this 2024, whenever we did quarter finals together, that open workout with the row deadlift double under. Dude, Tudor destroyed that workout too. And you could row super slow and just obliterate the double owners and make up a lot of time every round.
Yeah, he's crazy, crazy fast on the rope. And what is that? That's in the wrist and the jumping. And what is that that gives him that edge in that? I can just super coordinated with that movement. It's practice sprinting on a lot. And just a technical adaptation, I would think. Have you seen any time as faster than yours for 21 besides Tudor? No, I haven't really looked at all to see what scores are out there, especially with this one. It seems like this one, most people are saving for last week. Tudor, Tudor's the only score that I've even seen for this workout. Okay, and then I think we saw Raptus go this morning. She got 411, but that's in the women's division. And then I think she got a 436. And Raptus also had some hiccups. She was jumping with her weight belt and it fell off and hit her rope. But she had to do a reset. Any soreness from the previous three workouts that you felt today?
No, no, no. Body feels fine, it goes really good. I just kind of sleepy because I haven't slept in very good in the hotel room. But in that, like feeling good. Yesterday morning, I called Gabe. The owner of Pabre Street, I'm like, hey, what do I get? Because I have a coffee shop. Because I only drink just like plain cold brew or plain coffee. I don't know what orders are called and things like that. I called him Pabre Todd. I tried the pig farmer. The pig farmer don't know the proper protocol. I think so. I'm like, what do I get if I want a bunch of caffeine right now? And then he called the barista at the coffee shop and she made the order. And it was already ready when I got there. Damn, that's nervous, that's nervous. It's spoiled. Yeah, I know. Yeah, but that was the easiest workout of the four. Like I got done. I felt like I could have done there three rounds at that pace.
But it's just like I couldn't cycle faster. I lacked the coordination and skill on the rope to not have the balls I had. Uh, any chance you have two days now, you finished them in two days and you have two days left. Any chance you will redo anything? I don't think so. I think I'm going to take advantage of being here with Chris. Any other proven team and we're going to do some training for Mayhem and prep it out for that. I think that's where we're going to spend the rest of the day today and tomorrow doing. And I'll drive back home. If I, like this one would be really easy to redo, just because it was pretty easy. Now, I think it's going to damage me much. Like I think I could do this in an hour and maybe go faster. Wow, the one that I would want to redo the most is the squat queen one. But I mean, that one is really just, I would change my strategy from the beginning and do
faster cycling on the squats because it didn't save my grip. I thought it would go in with a pause at the top and maybe I would start with a set on the dumbbell. But really, that one is just depending on how my grip is feeling if I was going to do better on that one. I'd love to see you do that one again. Here's a quick update. Thank you to dense updates over at the CF network. Workout one, Colt Merton's 544 in first. This is unofficial, of course. Workout two, Colt Merton's in first with 716. Workout three, Tudor Magda in first, Colton in second with a 12-second differential, and then workout four, 928 for Colton, 935 for Jason Hopper. Thanks, Jenny, for whipping that card up. Yeah, there's 420, you're 100.2. As 421, as I say, it's slight hiccup on that. But yeah, I had two trips or mess ups. So there's, he's a 421 or 411. There's scraps on the table. What's 10 seconds amongst friends? Oh, and when you say you and Ibara will prep for mayhem,
meaning it'll be nice to have a top-level competitor to push, get some training in that you wouldn't normally get there in the barn in Iowa. Yeah. I said it in the proven team. And Kyra. And Kyra. Oh, shit. Wow, get him Kyra. Get him Kyra. Geez, yes. It's just one of the things that I'm holding there. Wow, you got fucked. Did you even know she was there? Yeah, she came in here and started talking shit to me. Yeah, he's the one who worked out. I don't think I'm the shit. I've been fighting for my life over here this weekend. These guys are killing it. Yeah, it'll be, it's kind of fun to work out with the proven group and get ready for mayhem. Try and keep up with Chris on some running and some rope climb stuff like that. How about keeping up with Kyra? Yeah. I'm going to try that. I'm going to try to do that. I'm going to try that out. Did you put Kyra? Hey, I almost beat him in a workout. I'm running workout. Almost. Damn. Did you say a running workout?
Yeah, that's fine. We'll see what Kyra's got for us tomorrow. We'll probably make us run today. Oh, we're running today. Oh, so you are going to work out more today? Yeah. And you don't know what you're going to do. No, I have no idea. I have some running, I think. And then some more mayhem type stuff. It sounds like it. And what does that mean mayhem type stuff? The things you see there are a lot like rope climbs, muscle ups. We'll put on a weight vest, maybe. Box show bowlers, lunges, GHDs, just those things that you think of me think of mayhem. All right, leaderboard has been updated. Of course, very quick. Wow, dense. You're good. Look at that. No problem to sat in 10 seconds. Hold on the score 421. There we go. There it is. Hey, I think my workout one might have been 543. Slow down. I think it was like 534 or something. 530s? 530s? Yeah. Yeah. Oh, boy.
Oh, boy, poor Jenny. And then Sunday, Sunday travel day for you? Yeah, we're going to train in the morning. And then hopefully hit the road by like a noon. And then I'll get home by 9 o'clock or so before. So if you got home for some reason, you got a wild hair up your ass to do it again. I guess the way it's set up is you would have to go to one of the gyms, one of your home gyms in Iowa. Yeah, I would go across the tail. Tail. Okay. All right. And what do you think the odds are you do that? One out of 10. 10. Okay, I'm going to go do the math on that's 10% right Brad? That's 10. Yep. Thank you. I thought you were going to interpret it and say, Nah, that's probably 90%. Games athletes work out six times a day since Heidi Kroom, then retire and blame CrossFit for their inflammation. Wow. Hey, don't loop me into that. I got to remember they have their own they have their own program.
That solves for those issues now. Hit the link below. Yeah, it's called lit, dude. Clit. Hey, I'm going to keep on my mission. I work for this information. I've worked hard for it. Continuous low-intensity, ignorant, ignorant, mistraining program. Clit, check me out on IG. Check out our clip. Colton, any swimming this weekend says Katie Shaper. Oh, that's a fine pool. It's pretty chilly and natural this weekend. It was hot like the first couple days I was here over now. It's like 30. Oh, we're going to do a swimming workout tomorrow. Bryson and I and Mason start up. A dot com workout. It has it has 25 meter swims where you can't breathe. You can't come up to breathe. You have to do it on the water. That's kind of is that a joke? Okay, that's an amazing. No, I'm being that serious. As soon as he told me the joke, I can't do it. Hey, dude, there was an old dot com workout. It was an old dot com workout. I was like, wow, imagine if they would have posted that workout this year, dude. It would have been pandemonium. Yeah, we're doing the fuck. Yeah, we're doing the workout. I used to do that all the time.
But you guys can all go 25 meters underwater. Easily. Yeah, I can do 50, but I can do 50 once. 50 doing 50 puts me in the put's me in the gutter. It's like, I need 10 minutes to recover. I used to practice that because I wanted to go into the Navy. And it's hard. It's fucked to go 50 without. Does that workout have a name? Jesus. Yeah. I don't do. We're going to get a strike. No, it's a dot com workout. It's like four rounds for time. 50 air scots. And then I believe it's a 50 meter swim, but you go 25 lengths without coming up. Colton overall, are you pleased with your performances? No. Are you ever pleased? No, that's the thing. People ask me, do you feel good about that? I never really feel good about it. Because you're critical, after the workout, even if you win, you're like, I could have done better here. I could have done better there. Yeah, or you're just kind of tweaking your strategy and paces. Like, if I slowed down here, I could have had more to push here. Or like, I shouldn't have pulled back on this part.
Like, I'm workout four with the rowing. I shouldn't have pulled back. In the last, you know, 150 or 200 meters on each row, did it just been more confident kept kept the 145 and the 141 142 paces? Because I think it could have wouldn't have affected my grace in my handstand pushups at all. It's like that. And then just the strategy, tweaks on the dumbbell, hand queens and on this one, not having those two mess ups on the rope. And I'll say, I think I could have pushed the burpees a little harder on the second set on the shutter on workout. Keeper, Lamy, you see the head coach over there? He's like one of the hauncho coaches, right? Yeah, he's like a four star general. Ask me if he's okay. After the mental abuse, he got from Lucy McGonagall and Kyra Milligan last night. Oh boy. Lucy, Kyra and Olivia are just been being this shit out of me. That's crazy. I'm going to take that shit from women, dude.
What are you doing? You can get physical there. It's Tennessee, bro. You can do it. You can do physical intensity, dude. Don't take that shit. It's a pretty crazy one, dude. Lucy will be like, she'll talk mad shit and then watch me and Chris. Like, we'll invite her like, hey, do the workout in our heat. She's like, oh, yeah, bet. I'm going to get you. And then she comes in, watches us do it and then does like two hours later. Classic. I don't know. Seven, four times a row now. That's a European thing to do, man. It's pretty European thing to do. Sneaky Europeans. Did everything go as planned in the morning? The morning, dudes, the warm-up, the everything? Yeah, I think so. I've been having like, heartburn and I really nauseous before these workouts. I keep on. Yesterday before they're on the rowing and also today, I almost ask you like, hey, can we wait? Like, in our two minutes, I think I'm going to puke. But I didn't want to do that because you can't do that in competitions.
So I just kind of choked it down. Is it the nerves? I guess so, yeah. Sometimes when I get hungry before a workout, a little bit of that comes up and I just chew it a little bit and then swallow it. Oh, wow. Let's come a little full again now. But that doesn't happen at home. I guess is what I'm asking. That doesn't happen at home. Yeah, sometimes it depends on the workout. Wow. So you'll see the workout and you'll get so amped up about it that you'll get a little nauseous. Yeah, I get nervous and training a lot. It's a different kind of nervousness and competition. Yeah, I definitely get anxiety about it. But I think that's, it's like if I'm not nervous about my workouts and they're pulling out hard enough or I'm not saying high enough expectations, I think. Do you have any complaints or compliments about the programming in the quarter finals this year? I think most of the workouts allowed for more separation at the top than people were expecting.
And also I was good. For the 75th to 98th percentile, there is massive opportunities for separation. These workouts, which is what I think they're programmed for. I think for getting 2,000 people in online semis, it's great. I think that for the competitions using quarter finals, as part of their qualifier for their semifinal, it's a little more difficult because there is not as much separation. I'm just going to prepare people for what they're going to see at semis in person. So for events like syndicate that are taking 20 even quarter finals, it's not ideal for that. But I don't think that it was planned to be that way. But I also don't think those events knew that it was going to be like that either. Or as they may not use quarter finals for their qualifier. You know, I'd be curious to see what Taylor thinks about this. But I think as a programmer, if I was a programmer, I would be most excited to see you do any workout
I programmed than any other athlete in this case. I don't know what it is about Colton, but it always seems the most exciting when you're tackling workouts, even over anyone else. I'm not sure why. Do you get that feeling, Taylor? I think it's because we know we're going to get a really high effort. You can watch a lot of athletes and tell like, hey, you know, some of them are just doing it for funzies, doing it for shits and gigs. And when you're watching the best in the sport, funzies and shits and gigs is still likely in insane time. And so like the normal people watch like, wow, that's crazy. But I think what gets you a little more excited about Colton and some other athletes is, you know, that when they put their skin on the line and you watch them do a workout, they're going to take them to a place that makes them nervous. And that's what we want to see. So that's what people want to see. They don't care if, hey, if it were Jason Hopper and going at 75% is 20 times fitter than a bubble games athlete, people still want to watch the bubble games athlete take it off a cliff and just absolutely run until the wheels fall off.
I think someone someone gets some on some knee pads. I mean, maybe I need knee pads, but I think what I'm saying is true. I think for some reason the pressure you put on yourself somehow translates. And so we all want to see it. I definitely don't even pressure when you guys have me on here. Even if, well, one, because I think a lot of times people are expecting a crazy performance because usually I'm on here doing workouts that are wheel housey, like the open. But also, I feel a lot of pressure. Like, he was not wheel house workout to send myself off a cliff, like Taylor said. And let's give you a show of good effort. If it's not going to be an impressive performance. Hey, and that's the truth thing. Think of the workout that Taylor passed out on the box. No one knows what that who won that workout or anything. The only thing memorable from that workout is the tail of the box. Yeah, boys and eruptible. Remember that shit next time you try talking some shit, dude. It's me falling off a box and some random affiliate in the in the dirty south
has got more views in place. And all three of you boys combined on Instagram, dude. And I'm a nobody. Some bulb jangers got more views than you guys because I fell off a box. Come on, dorks. Great question. Extra sloppy. What is Colton's favorite time of the season? Yeah, do you have a favorite time? Like the game season. Like if it was in four sections. If you had displayed between the open quarter final semis in the games, do you have a favorite? Right after semis, right after you qualify. And it's just preparation for the games. That's what we're going to do. You just have a completely singular, singular goal of performance of the games. And also right after because these have a clean slate. For the next year, Doom's proved. Oh, that's, that's good. Did Colton get 421? Den said it was 411. She updated it. Yeah. Yeah, 411 or yeah. All right. Thank you very much. Any final questions for Mr. Mertens, where we send them off to more intense training?
Thanks for doing this. Thanks, bro. Thank you guys. It's been a fun makes my weekend a lot funer. You're awesome. Thank you, Colton. Love you, bro. See you, bro. Appreciate it. Head on over to Mertens. Homestead products. Oh, yes. That commercial just makes me want to get in like a 70s, like F-150 with Colton and just fucking drive around and like fucking shitty jeans and put a lip in and stop signs. Put a lip in. No, not huge stop signs, dude, but just ride around on the farm and like, fucking check tire pressure and shit all day. You know, check the tire pressure, dude. You know, check the brake lines. Just fucking, dude, you know, fucking tractor.
You know, test the soil, you know, do this to the soil. Get some soil in your hands, dude. It just makes me want to fucking go to work with that guy and hang out all day and fucking listen to Luke Bryan or something, you know. Ella Langley. Brad sent a screenshot and it's just cropped to perfection. That is amazing. Oh, it's a screenshot, dude. Is it a Bryson's butt? No, but it's just. You can tell he's Iranian. You can tell Bryson's Iran when he shows. Does anyone beat Tutor's time? No, maybe down, maybe down. I don't know, man. Do you have one trip up? You're not beating this time. Yeah, I don't think down. I'll have a trip up and down as just as fast as Tutor on the dubs. Well, two things. Tutor had a trip up toward the beginning and he likely did some reports. He did 49 reps on one set. Could it be one second penalty? Could it be four minutes clap?
Yeah, it's a good thing Seth already paid me. Not sending that shit back. Well, obviously I was Colton would redo this workout me too. I wish he'd redo them all just to be higher in leaderboard. It really is something different. Watch him attack workouts. I don't know what it is, but I could watch him. I'm not a big fan of the watching people exercise and I could do it all day with Colton. That would be the vlog Taylor goes to Iowa for a weekend of workouts and workouts. Hey, he's invited us out. He's invited Bryson and I out and Lizzie. Maybe we got to make that happen after after semi-finals. A games training a week of games training with Colton Mertens. That would be pretty sick. That would be sick. It would be amazing. Well, see we could just let a pig loose and see if Bryson and I could catch it together. That would be a good one. We should live stream that. We should live stream that. That is that animal abuse. No. Thank you. Shout out to you guys. He's making you fucking sorry. We'd get reported.
Yeah, Colton's a savage. He really is. He really is a savage. All right, don't forget born primitive.com. Born primitive.com has 70% sale now. Sports bra's leggings, training shorts, performance T's, lounge wear, and more during our spring clearance event. Plus grab. Savage ones. You can get him first. She was $75 now. You will not be disappointed with the new improved tongue. All right. This has been a great series. Thank you, Katie. Appreciate it. Update show tonight. I think we should wait till tomorrow. Because then the leader board will all be in. What do you think? No, that's Monday. Oh, sorry, Monday. Okay, you want to do one tonight? I want to do one tonight. UFC's on tonight too. All right, uh, possible update show tonight. Um, the cyclops I've spoken, uh, kill, tell this weekend. No, kill tell. No, no CF network this week.
Yeah. No CF network this week. Because that old, ugly, busted dude clay probably reported the channel because he's a major P U. And I think you can infer the rest. Buddy, but it ends with us. Yes. Yeah. Someone. Yes. We don't know what happened yesterday. We can only speculate. Hey, even the strike, even the strike for the kill Taylor clip, it's crazy. I reviewed the timestamp and it's me talking about how I beat James at water pollution in 2022 and he took 18th and 10th and I'm like, oh, wow, where's the bullying and harassment? Where's the bullying and harassment here? Seriously? I show my butthole on the stream. That doesn't get a strike, but me saying I beat James at water pollution gets a strike. So we will be, we're speaking to our YouTube, I don't know what they're called, YouTube ambassador to get that fixed. There will be a lot of sub clips popping up on the station this week.
I hope you guys enjoy and then all the shows will be held over on this channel. The seven on podcasts until we get our band. Don't buy railing grips, railing grips suck ass don't buy anything from railing. For the worst, they tried to sponsor me. They thought I was cool. I said, hey, I didn't have time for that. I don't want to do it. Now I'm a bully by victory grips. They don't pay me a dollar. They're the best grips on the planet. I do like also vault to that's in the UK. And then for all grips are cool because they sponsor cold. Other than that, I don't know much about them, but I wear victory grips every day. And again, screw railing China, all right, love you guys. See you guys later on today. Have a great Saturday. Don't forget to watch Adult and Rasta on ESPN 2 tonight. I believe it's at 7 p.m. 6 or 7 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Well, some days start for the sun and end long after the work is done.
Dirt, sweat, iron. It all leaves a mark. Hog scrub is built for the reset. Push off the day. Keep the grip.
