Stephanie Witt, the former president and Alicia Bird, the former treasurer, allegedly used league bank cards for personal purchases over several years. The missing money came from city donations meant for field maintenance and player registration fees that covered daily operations. The board spotted the discrepancies back in May and reported them to police, leading to an investigation. Current President Miranda Hicks has stressed the need to rebuild community trust after the betrayal. She pointed out that board members represent kids who can't speak up for themselves and the theft has her players, families, and sponsors. Both women stepped down from their roles before Monday's arrests on charges of grand theft and scheme to defraud. Officials haven't confirmed yet if they worked together on the scheme.
