In the classic children’s story Little Black Sambo by Helen Bannerman, a young boy receives a set of vibrant new clothes and accessories from his parents. While exploring the jungle, he encounters several predatory tigers and is forced to surrender his colorful attire to avoid being eaten. The tigers eventually engage in a furious dispute over who is the most impressive, resulting in them chasing one another around a tree until they liquefy into butter. The boy’s father discovers the substance and brings it home, where the mother uses the melted remains to cook a massive feast of pancakes for the family. This 1942 edition features illustrations by Robert Moore that depict the protagonist's journey from potential prey to a satisfied diner.
