Life Question of the Week, 3.13.26

About this episode

Today, our first letter comes from Mpumi in South Africa: As a devoted aunt helping raise three children in a communal setting, Mpumi asks how to balance spiritual possibility with real-world responsibility. How do you teach Black children in Africa to trust manifestation and divine potential—while also preparing them to work hard, pursue education, and thrive in the world as it is?

Our next letter comes from Wanjiru: Wanjiru's career is expanding into a new country, but her marriage has been marked by domestic violence and deep emotional trauma. As she prepares for physical distance, she asks how to truly heal, forgive, and release the pain—so she can move forward free rather than carrying the past with her.

Finally, Michael leads a meditation on waking up to the True you.

Peace and Rich's Blessings. I am Michael B. Beckwith, the host of Take Back Your Mind. Peace and Radical Blessings to all of you and welcome to Take Back Your Mind. Life questions of the week. This is an opportunity for me to receive questions that are coming in from all around the world and to seek to shed light that may become an answer, not only for the person that is writing the letter and asking the question, but for all of you who are

tuning in, thank you for tuning in. I appreciate you. First question comes from Impome from South Africa. When she says, I'm 40 years old and a very active aunt to three young people, ages 813 and 20, who are being raised communally. I'm struggling to embody the next level of possibility thinking when it comes to the practical realities of raising kids. Specifically, how do we within the constraints of the physical world, best nurture a guide and prepare black children growing up in Africa while keeping them connected to and living in the field of possibilities? What's the right approach for responsibly raising children who have been introduced to trusting the power of manifestation, especially when society has commercialized it without the depth and layered connection it requires? Also guiding them to do the practical things that support a stable,

comfortable life, such as pursuing their education earning a degree as a foundation for financial independence as adults. I recognize that we are spiritual beings having a physical experience, but I also believe it's a practical truth that the physical world requires our active participation as it currently is in our everyday life decisions and effort even as we realign with the universe. It would feel irresponsible to tell these children to only manifest and not work hard in ways the physical world recognizes. So how do we ground practical, responsible, communal parenting with firm spiritual beliefs? Thank you for your insight. Impomi? You ask a very important question and in your question, all of your answers. So first of all, within the constraints of the physical world, how do we best nurture and guide our children, our black children growing up in Africa while

keeping them connected and living in the field of possibilities? So first of all, in terms of, and you talked about the commercialization of the law of manifestation, which I agree with you, it has become very commercial because on some levels it is surface because the first stage of manifestation as you come out of victimhood is to learn how to manifest, is to become aware that there's a law in the universe that responds to your thinking, the aquatic thoughts, your perceptions, your beliefs and all of that. And so individuals, when they first take on this, they basically seek to manifest what they think they want in the world to be happy. But there's a deeper connection as well. As one begins to connect with life and you can call capital ill life God, the presence, there's a deeper connection that we must all have and that is to get a real sense of inner feeling that we're connected to this grand presence that we're one with this presence and that there's something within us

as we have emerged from this presence that we are to deliver, our gifts, our talents, the expansion of our capacity to be of service on the planet at this time in human history, not just getting what we think we want, but actually getting who we are. So at the deeper level, we're seeking to discover who we really are and to set that free. That's why there's a great emphasis on meditation, a great emphasis on introspection so that we're not getting our cue to what we want from the world, which is highly commercialized, we're getting our cue from our soul, we're getting our cue from our connection. So I teach the life-visioning process in which we ask deeper question, what is it within me that's trying to emerge? What gift that is within me that I'm supposed to deliver to the world? What gift that is within me that is seeking to express itself? So as you're raising these children in this communal way, you have to teach them that they are unique beings that have gifts

that they are to deliver to the world, not just to come here to the world to get stuff, but they've entered into this world as a spiritual being having a human incarnation to deliver their giftedness, that shifts their perspective to just trying to manifest things, it shifts to what am I to contribute to the world? And you've already outlined it in your question, but it means that while you're in this world, you're not of it, you're of a higher frequency, you're of asking a higher question, yes, definitely, but while you're in this world, so to speak, you want to do your uttermost to develop your skills. You want to do your uttermost to develop your intellectual capacity. You want to do your uttermost to take care of your body, temple, your mental body, your emotional body, which is why extended education is very, very good. It's not the end all and be all. It doesn't mean that everybody's going to go to college, but if you and do go down that path, what you're doing is increasing the opportunities that will

come to you as you pursue a career or pursue a calling, not just a career, but a calling. So you're basically telling your nieces and nephews that while you're in the physical world, you might as well develop skills. You might as well be educated, not to be indoctrinated, but to be educated. I know they used to say to my grandson, there were people he went to Howard for a while before he transferred to Loyola, they would tell him at the different places in the community that would be selling herbs and things of that particular nature and holistic. They would say, hey, go to Howard to get your indoctrination, but come here to get your education. And so you're training your kids to understand as they go to these higher portals of education, you know, you're learning how to play in the world, but you are getting real education from your

soul by asking the higher questions, you see. You have both skills, you know, so maybe your nephew, your niece, maybe they want to get a skill in the world, maybe they want to learn how to build a house, maybe they want to be a chiropractor, maybe they want to be a doctor, maybe they want to go into real estate, maybe they want to be an artist, but any of that, you're going to have to learn the skill of that particular domain, whether it's going to college or whether it's going to a life skill place, definitely do it. Don't just sit around and seek to manifest with your mind, that's good. But if you have a skill to go along with it, it's better. I think that's what you're asking in this particular question. You're calling it the practical realities of raising kids. Now, we don't travel in what is called realism or being realistic. We travel in what is called being real. Capital are real. Connection to the infinite in the asking, what am I to give and then once you

get what am I to give, what skill is necessary for me to give my gift? What do I need to learn? Where do I need to go get that skill? Do I need to go to college to get that skill? Do I need to go to a place that's training me in those particular skills? So you're inviting them one, the deeper levels of manifestation, which is to connect with the higher question, and two, with skill, do I need? You're inviting them not to be lazy. Go to school. Not just to be indoctrinated. You develop friendships in school, connections. So it's nothing wrong with going to school. As long as you realize there is an indoctrination level that you're going to bypass because they've got a great aunt that's raising them in a communal setting. So, impo me, I hope this has been very helpful. You've asked a great question.

Doing the practical things, yes, the same time asking those empowering questions, so that you're learning to manifest, not by what you want, but by who you are. A higher identity. Thank you for asking the question. Our next question. That question came from South Africa. This question is a woman who's born in Kenya. So we're covering the continent today, the birthplace of humanity, African continent that has different countries. It's interesting that people, when they think of Africa, they think it's like one big country. It's not. Africa contains many countries on the continent of Africa. I think it's the biggest continent in the world. Even though the maps will sometimes have Russia or United States as something being bigger than Africa, those maps are so incorrect. Africa has many countries, Niger, Ghana, and North Africa,

Kortavars, Senegal, Kenya, South Africa. There's so many countries in Africa. So this is a good education, just so you know that it's bigger than United States. You can put a couple of United States inside of Africa. So sometimes because the colonists, the colonizing mind created a map that shows that Africa is smaller, but it's actually very large. Anyway, that's just an aside, but everybody should know a little bit of geography. Now, this particular letter is coming from Wangeru, a Kenyan born woman. She says, I am a Kenyan born woman who is seeking to understand life and what's next for me. I'm feeling stuck in my career, my marriage, and my life in general. While my career now has taken a great turn, it's sending me to a new country, but with my marriage, I'm constantly plagued by trauma over past and current domestic violence,

emotional and financial abuse by my spouse and his extended family. While I am trying in every way to overcome the victim mentality and to stop asking why me, I'm unable to forgive and the more I try, the more the trauma reappears. I feel detached from my spouse. I barely talk to him. And when I do, it often results in angry outbursts. I have many emotions piled up and I can't seem to help projecting them. As my job is sending me to another country, I will be physically away from this situation. But I want to feel great in all the vital areas of my life. How can I overcome this trauma? Forgive and finally let go. Oh, this is a great question. The answer is in your question, obviously. Wangeru, let's break it down. You were feeling stuck in your career, but there seems to be an uplift there because now travel has

been included in your career. And hopefully your careers are calling something that you love. It's not, you're going to have to look at that as well. But here's the thing. The current domestic violence. He said, I'm plagued by trauma over past. Here's the important word, and current domestic violence, emotional and financial abuse by my spouse and my extended family. So we have to separate two things. One, there is the process and the practice of forgiveness over this trauma. And there's two, the fact that some of this is happening currently. So yes, you have to forgive not to condone the violence, but you have to forgive so that the resentment, the animosity and the emotions that are piling up within you begin to diffuse and begin to be disintegrated, transmuted. So you're not walking around

as a piled up with all these emotions in you about how you're being abused by your husband and his family. That'll bring you a lot of power. Now here's the other thing. If there's current abuse going on, the real question is why are you still there? Why are you in this relationship? Are you aware that divorce is not a sin? And so while you're traveling and you're feeling better being away and every time you go into a level of forgiveness, it seems to create more trauma and more abuse from your spouse. I think you're getting a message. You're getting a direct message. Maybe this isn't your mate for the rest of your life. I'm just saying what you're saying. Maybe you're trying to find satisfaction in a world too small. So maybe you need to ask a different question. How can I, um, elegantly, peacefully, transition

from this relationship? If in fact, it's not going to change. God is not ordaining you to suffer violence and keep developing the strength to withstand the blows. God is not ordaining you to keep going into forgiveness or to be hurt again and again and again. No. That's not God ordained. You are ordained to live a magnificent, beautiful, peaceful, productive, creative, prosperous life according to your uniqueness. I'm not telling you to get a divorce. I'm saying if you cannot find satisfaction in that world that is too small, you have to expand your world and that world might be without him. That might be difficult. You have extended family on his side that's abusing you financially as well as physically. So you may have to find, first of all, the answer to that question within yourself and then you'll have to ask for help

within your own soul to guide you peacefully and safely out of that relationship. If you get the answer from your soul, this is just not going to work. I've worked with people over the years as a counselor of women who have been abused, hit even physically, and most of those relationships, if the man did not change, because sometimes they'll apologize. I don't know where your situation is, but then do the same thing again. Sometimes those things can end up very, very costly if you don't get out in time. So you're going to ask to ask from help from your soul and then develop an inner, spiritual, wonderful strategy to escape the abuse. You know the situation you're in. You know whether you can even bring that up in a conversation without being abused again. So there's going to have to be a strategy that allows you to get free,

get away so that you're not harmed by him or his family. You hear what I'm saying? We're going to hold you in prayer. I would like for you to write back to let us know exactly what's happening and if you need some more assistance. Because domestic abuse, particularly on the African continent, we're in certain countries. Not just in Africa, Iran, in other places, the world, where the woman is held as a second class citizen. Those days are coming to an end on the planet right now. That paradigm, and not just in Iran, not just in parts of Africa, even in America,

there are men oppressing women. But there's a rising of the feminine all on the globe right now. There's movement of change and maybe you've caught the sweet aroma and incense of this change. So I'm not asking you to do anything drastic. I'm asking you to go within and ask, is there going to be peace and love and satisfaction within this small world that you have described? If not, ask for help, that your soul guides you. You may be safe as you make the move, that the spirit may be guiding you to be and to do. And do not be fooled by temporary changing of behavior. Be safe while you're being courageous.

Yes, forgive. But forgiveness is not to give you strength to keep standing and with standing blows. You're not meant to be beat up. You're meant to be loved up. Appreciate it and see. We see you. I hope this assists you and many others who may be calling in with a very similar question. God bless you all. Peace and blessings. Peace and dynamic blessings. Peace and blessings and welcome to yourself. I say welcome to yourself because in the art and science of meditation of which we're going to do a few minute practice. That's who you meet. Ultimately you meet the true you. You're sitting to wake up to who you are. Not some super-powered version that you know, but who you really are direct from the hard mind of the infinite. And so it's not that you're trying to gain anything. You're not chasing anything in meditation. You're choosing you. You're becoming aware that there is a you that exists before your parents were even born. It exists before you were imprinted by society, or education, or miseducation, or religiosity, or any interpretation you may have had by any

experience that you had in your incarnation. There's a you before all of that. And so in your meditate there's something called the pre-initiation stage in which you're clearing up the debris that has been lodged in your awareness so that you could actually be initiated into seeing that which is real. So every time you sit in meditation you're either growing through a pre-initiation stage of releasing toxicity or you be coming initiated into a higher frequency of your own being. And so I encourage you to have some level of meditation practice that you do on a daily. Don't think about, oh, I'm going to sit here for two hours every day. You know, you don't start there. You start just a few moments of intro-spection that leads to trans-spection, intro, turning within, and then it takes you beyond the matrix that you may be living in.

It's practice. Close your outer eye. Both of them. It's kind of the go of the intention of the body temple. Sit with a level of respect for the presence that's never an absence. That means you're back in spinal column is erect without being rigid and you have great posture. Slight smile on your face. It's just a signal of coherence and a signal that releasing great and tonic chemicals through the body temple. Now you establish an intention for these few moments. For these particular few moments, let this intention be to wake up to our glorious nature, our true self. Our attention is embracing our intention.

And we sit in complete silence and stillness, embracing our intention to wake up through our true self, this luminous being that existed before time began. Carries a impromotor of uniqueness, three real gifts in talents, and to be given as only we can, because there's not another us. So we sit. We're aware that the body's breathing that keeps us in present moment. We enter into this field with the thought of the feeling that we've never done this before, so that we have a beginner's childlike mind of wonder and all.

We have a deep capacity to listen with our entire being to catch, transcend the wisdom and creative intelligence that's flowing all around us, but wants to flow through and as us. Be still enough.

From this stillness of our contemplating our intrinsic oneness with life itself, the gratitude factor kicks in and we become grateful that we exist at all, that we're alive. Oh, what a gift, the gift of life, the gift of awareness, the gift of pure consciousness. And as we receive this gift, our gift back is what we do with this consciousness. We shine the light of love and blessing everywhere we go. We invite ourselves to be greater versions of ourselves. That's our gift back to the consciousness that birthed us. So we open our eyes with the deep sense of gratitude and thanksgiving and we take a vow to walk

through this A being grateful and rejoicing in the life that we are and asking the question, how can I serve? How can I be a blessing? How can I express more of the sacred qualities of the infinite as they now are becoming the activity of my awareness through soulful meditation? Peace and blessings everyone. Peace and radical blessings. Your time is very valuable, so I want to thank you for tuning in to take back your mind. If you want to submit a live question, please do so. Email us at podcast at michaelbeckwith.com and perhaps one day I'll be answering your question that will touch the lives of so many. If you've enjoyed the show, you might as well submit a five-star review. You might as well tell your friends and family.
