The Federal Government of Nigeria has set the minimum age for admission into tertiary institutions at 16 years old for the 2025/2026 academic session. This decision was announced by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, during the 2025 Policy Meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Abuja.
The new policy replaces the previous 18-year minimum age limit proposed by the former Minister of Education.
The announcement also included the approval of national minimum cut-off marks for the 2025 admission exercise: 150 for universities, 140 for colleges of nursing, and 100 for polytechnics, colleges of agriculture, and colleges of education.
