The story of Leo the Lop follows a young rabbit born with drooping ears while all his peers have ears that stand upright. Initially content, Leo becomes self-conscious when the other bunnies mock his appearance, leading him to try various ways to make his ears point toward the sky. His perspective shifts after an encounter with a possum, who points out that "normal" is a matter of viewpoint. Realizing that his unique trait is just as valid as anyone else's, Leo teaches the burrow that individuality should be embraced. Ultimately, the rabbits learn that being normal simply means being yourself. Although he accepts his looks, the book ends with a humorous note about the practical struggle of his long ears dipping into his food.
