Hey, did anybody get so intrigued to what happened that they actually pulled up the legends of the Jews on their phone or on their computer and tried to read ahead to see what happened? Because that was kind of a cliffhanger that our last week. We had the whole encounter with Joseph and his brothers and this was the second time of him accusing them of foul play and they snatched up the younger brother. I think it was Benjamin, I think.

9:29And then at this time the boys were like, no, dad done totus. He thought that we would come back with one less son like we always do. We're going to fight this time and they were getting ready to draw their swords and throw down when that section ends. So I kind of ended on a cliffhanger there and I had some people I seen in the chat. No, how dare you stop at that point. I got to know what happened. How many went ahead and read ahead? So I'll get all my stuff moved over and we'll pick up where we left off last time. And the subtitle, that one is Judah Pleads and Threatens. So all the pleasantries and stuff was over pretty quickly man. They were about to throw down. Boy, that escalated quickly. That's what she said. Alright, getting all this stuff moved over here. I'll switch the camera view.

Joseph dismissed his brethren and carried Benjamin off by a main force and locked him up in a chamber. But Judah broke the door open and stood before Joseph with his brethren. He determined to use in turn the three means of liberating Benjamin at his disposal. He was prepared to convince Joseph by argument or move him by entreaties or resort to force in order to accomplish his end.

15:46And for those maybe just joining us, these brothers and stuff they've been spoken about their size. They basically describe them as giants and mighty warriors. So these guys were trying to play nice, but the niceness is about to wear off and they're about to fight their brother unbeknownst to them, their brother Joseph. To make sure they get back their younger brother because Jacob did not want to let his youngest son go. Because every time the brothers take off, they always come back with one last. And they finally begged and pleaded that it convinced their father to let Benjamin go. Now it looks like Benjamin is going to be captured. So they are not returning home without the little brother. He spake, thou doest a wrong unto us. Thou who didest say, I fear God, thou showest I self to be like unto Pharaoh, who hath no fear of God. Judgment which thou dost pronounce are not in accordance to our laws, nor are they in accordance with the laws of the nations.

16:53According to our law, a thief must pay double in value of what he has stolen. Only if he hath no money, is he sold into slavery. But he hath the money, he takeeth double restitution. And according to the law of the nations, the thief is deprived of all he owns. Do so, but let him go free. If a man buys a slave, and then discovers him to be a thief, the transaction is void. Yet thou desire to make one a slave whom thou charges with being a thief. I suspect thee of wanting to keep him in thy power for elicit purposes. And in this lustfulness, thou disresimblest Pharaoh. Also, thou art like Pharaoh, and that thou makeest a promise, and keepest it not. Thou set us unto my servants, bring thy youngest brother down to me, that I may set my eyes upon him. 17:59Reuben is older than he, and I exceed him in strength. I cannot be, as I say, thou hast a lustful purpose to mine with our brothers. So they say, oh, you want the young handsome fella. And just for context, if you're joining us late, Manasseh, that is the son of Joseph, and he was born and bred while in captivity in Egypt. Well, I guess he's technically not in captivity, he's helping rule here. But they described these people like the supernatural power and strength.

20:05The first encounter when they took Benjamin, and they had to leave and come back, Benjamin screams, and just his scream made everyone cover their years and bow to the ground. But when he done that, the brothers didn't flinch or it didn't affect them, it didn't affect Joseph, and it didn't affect Manasseh, and his other son, I can't remember the name, but those guys didn't react to it either. So they thought that was fishy, they're like, what's up with this guy? Our strength and power had no effect on this dude. So they already suspect something's up. And so when Manasseh, the son of Joseph, stomps his foot on the ground, it says like, basically there's like a little earthquake, so he's kind of flexed on him showing him, hey, you want to fight with me bro? And Judas says, only one belonging to our family can stamp thus. So here you go, they're starting to figure it out here.

21:06And intimidated by this display of great strength, he moderated his tone and manner, so then he started saying, okay now hey bro, let's calm down here. Let's talk this out here. From the very beginning, he continued to speak, Dowdish resorted to all sorts of pretexts in order to embarrass us. The inhabitants of many countries came down into Egypt to buy corn, but none of them distout asked questions about their family relations. Okay, seeing that his brethren were indeed on the point of destroying Egypt, Joseph resolved to make himself known to them, and he cast around for a proper opening, which would lead naturally to his announcement. At his behest, manaculate his hand upon Judah's shoulder, and his touch allied Judah's fury. Excuse me, for he noticed that he was in contact with the consignment of his, because such strength existed in no other family.

43:55Then Joseph addressed Judah gently saying, I should like to know who advised him to steal the cup. Could it have been one of you? Benjamin replied, neither did they counsel theft, nor did I touch the cup. Takeeth an oath upon it, demanded Joseph, and Benjamin complied with his brothers' request. I swear that I did not touch the cup, as true as my brother Joseph is separated from me, as true as I had nothing to do with the darts that my brethren threw at him, as true, as I was not one of those to take off his coat, and true as I had no part in the transaction by which he was given over to the Ishmaelites, as true as I did not help with the others, dip his coat in blood, so true as my oath, that they did not counsel theft, and that I did not commit theft. And Joseph says, How can I know that this oath of thine, taken upon my brother's faith, is true, so he can't concern about the cup no more?

45:01Benjamin, from the names of my ten sons, which I gave them in memory of my brother's life and trials, thou can't see how dearly I loved him. I pray thee, therefore, do not bring down my father with sorrow to the grave. Hearing these words of abiding love, Joseph could refrain himself no longer, he could not but make himself known into his brethren. He spoke these words to them, you said the brother of this lad was dead. Did you yourself see him dead before you, and they answered, yes. Joseph, did you stand beside his grave, the brethren? Yes, are they lied? Joseph, did you throw clods of earth upon his corpse, the brethren? No. Then Joseph reflected saying to himself, my brethren are as pious as a foretime, and they speak no lies. Well, yeah, they did. They didn't see your grave, unless he's talking about maybe they gave him a proper barrel, even though they didn't have the bodies like mourn or something.

46:12Maybe that's what they meant. They said I was dead, because when they abandoned me, I was poor, and a poor man is likened to a dead man. They stood beside my grave. That is the pit into which they cast me. But they did not say that they had shoveled earth upon me, for that would have been a falsehood. Turning to his brethren, he said, ye lie when ye say that your brother is dead. He is not dead. You sold him. And I did bury him. I shall call him and set him before your eyes, and he began to call Joseph, son of Jacob, come hither. Joseph, son of Jacob, come hither. Speak to my brethren, who did sell thee. The others turned their eyes to the fore corners of the house, until Joseph called to them. Why are ye here, and there, behold, I am Joseph your brother. Their souls fled away from them, and they could make no answer.

47:14But God permitted a miracle to happen, and their souls came back to them. Joseph continued, you see it with your own eyes, and also my brethren Benjamin said that with his eyes, that I speak with you in Hebrew, and I am truly your brother. But they could not believe him. Not only had he been transformed from a smooth face of youth, and to a bearded man, since they had abandoned him. But also, they foresook youth now, stood before them a ruler of Egypt. Therefore, Joseph borrowed his body and showed them that he belonged to the descendants of Abraham. So he showed him, he was circumcised, I assume. That's the only kind of identifying mark he could have showed him. A baste, they stood there, and in their rage, they desired to slay Joseph as the author of their shame and their suffering. But an angel appeared and flung them to the fore corners of the house. Due to race so loud and outcry that the walls of the city of Egypt came tumbling down, and the women brought forth untimely births.

48:20Joseph and Pharaoh both rolled down from their thrones, and Joseph's 300 heroes lost their teeth. This is like a repeat of what happened earlier. And their head remained forever immobile, facing backwards, out, as they had turned them to discover the cause of the term old. Yet the brethren did not venture to approach close to Joseph. They were too greatly ashamed of their behavior toward their brethren. He sought to calm them, saying, Now be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither, for God did send me before you to preserve life. Even such kind words of exhortation did not banish their fear, and Joseph continued to speak, as little as I harbor vengeful thoughts in my heart against Benjamin, so little do I harbor them against you. And still his brethren were ill at ease, and Joseph went on.

49:20Think, think ye that it possible for me to inflict harm upon you? If the smoke of the ten candles could not extinguish one, how could one extinguish the ten? At last their brethren were sued, and they went up to Joseph. Who knew each by name, and weeping, him braced and kissed them all in turn. The reason why he wept was that his prophetic spirit showed him the descendants of the brethren enslaved by the nations. Especially did he weep upon Benjamin's neck, because he foresaw the destruction decreed for the two temples to be situated in the allotment of Benjamin. And Benjamin also wept unto Joseph's neck for the sanctuary of Shiloh in the territory of Joseph, which was likewise doomed to destruction. Barrel was well pleased with the report of the reconciliation between Joseph and the Hebrews, for he had feared that the descendants might cause the ruin of Egypt, and he sent his servants to Joseph, that they take part in his joy.

50:25Also, he sent word to Joseph, that it would please him well if the brethren took up their abode in Egypt, and he promised to assign the best parts to the land to them for their dwelling place. And he did, he gave them, they call it lower Egypt, but to us it's northern Egypt, you know, where the Delta Nile branches off there. That's where the city of Avaris was, so they got prime real estate there. Not all the servants of Pharaoh were in agreement with their master concerning this invitation to the Hebrews. Many among them were disquieted, saying, if one of the sons of Jacob came hither, and he was advanced to high position over our heads, what evil happened to us when ten more come hither? Joseph gave all his brethren two changes of raminate, one for use on an ordinary day of the week, and one to use on the Sabbath. For when the couple was found with Benjamin, they had rent their clothes, and Joseph would not have his brethren go about in torn garments.

51:30But to Benjamin, he gave five changes of raminate, though not in order to distinguish him above his brethren, Joseph remembered only too well. What mischief his father had caused by giving him the coat of many colors. Thereby, rousing the envy of his brethren, he desired only to intimate that morta-kai, the descendant of Benjamin, would once be a raid in five royal garments. Joseph presented his brethren, apparent in their golden silver and brooded clothes before Pharaoh, who was well pleased to become acquainted with them when he saw that they were men of heroic stature and handsome appearance. He gave them wagons to bring their families down to Egypt, but as they were ornamented with images of idols, Judah burnt them, and Joseph replaced them with eleven other wagons. Among them, the one he had ridden in the ascension to office to view the land of Egypt.

52:31This was to be used by his father on their journey to Egypt. For each of his brothers' children, he sent raminates, and also 100 pieces of silver for each. But for each of his children of Benjamin, he sent ten changes of raminate. And for the wives of his brethren, he gave them rich garments of state, such as were worn by the wives of the Pharaohs, and also, ointments of aeromic spices. To his sister Dina, he sent silver and gold and brooded clothes with mirth, alloys, and other perfumes, and such presence he gave also to the wife and the daughters-in-law of Benjamin. For themselves, and for their wives, the brethren received all sorts of precious stones and jeweled ornaments, like those that were worn by the Egyptian nobility. Joseph accompanied his eleven brethren to the frontier, and there he took leave of them with the wish that they and other families come down to Egypt, and he enjoined upon them, besides three maxims to be observed by travelers.

53:33Do not take two large steps. Do not discuss hacklick subjects that you lose not your way, and enter the city at the latest with the going down of the sun. Okay, we gotta see what hacklick is. That probably just means, you know, no BS-ing. Don't dealty dally. Doesn't say. Okay, it means the way the term holoca derives from the Hebrew meaning the way. So, you know, don't derive from the way. Stick to the path and no idle talk. Let's go. Basically, I guess what that means. Let me check back in with you guys and gals real quick. 54:49Damn, it's right. They turn their heads so hard that they stayed the other way forever. In Blythe's spirits, the sons of Jacob journeyed up to the land of Canaan, but when they reached the boundary line, they said to one another, how shall we do? If we appear before our father and tell him that Joseph is alive, he will be greatly frightened, and he will not be inclined to believe us.

1:00:17Besides, Joseph's last injunction to them had been to take heed and not startle their father with tidings of joy, so they're afraid to give him a heart attack. On coming close to their habitation, they caught sight of Sarah, the daughter of Asher, a very beautiful maiden, and very wise, who was skilled in playing upon the harp. They summoned her unto them and gave her a harp, and made her to play before Jacob and sing that which they should tell her. So it's like, okay, sing him the news, okay? He sat down before Jacob. Excuse me. And with an agreeable melody, she sang with the following words accompanying herself upon the harp. Joseph, my uncle, live it. He ruleeth over the whole of Egypt. He is not dead. She repeated these words several times, and Jacob grew more and more pleasurably excited. His joy awakened the Holy Spirit in him, and he knew that she had spoken the truth.

1:01:21The Spirit of Prophecy never visits Asher when he is in a state of lassitude or in a state of grief. It comes only together with joy. All the years of Joseph's separation from him, Jacob had no prophetic visions because he was always sad. And only when Sarah's words reawaken the feeling of happiness in his heart that the prophetic Spirit again took possession of him. Jacob rewarded her therefore with these words. My daughter, may death never have power over thee, for thou dis revived my Spirit. And so it is, Sarah did not die. She entered Paradise alive. At his bidding, she repeated the words she had sung again and again, and they gave Jacob great joy and delight, so that the Holy Spirit whacked stronger and stronger within him. While he was sitting thus and converse with Sarah, his sons appeared arrayed in all their magnificence, and with all the presence that Joseph had given them.

1:02:22And they speak to Jacob saying, glad tidings, Joseph our brother, Liveth, he is ruler over the whole land of Egypt, and he sends thee a message of joy. At first Jacob would not believe him, but when they opened their sacks and showed them the presence that Joseph had sent to them all, he could not doubt the truth of their words. Joseph had had a premonition that his father would refuse to give his brethren credence, because they had tried to deceive him before. And it is the punishment of the liar that his words are not believed even when he speaks the truth. He had therefore said to them, if my father will not believe your words, tell him that when I took leave of him to see whether it was well with you, he had been teaching me. He had been teaching me the law of the heifer, whose neck is broken in the valley. When they repeated this, every last vestige of Jacob's doubt disappeared, and he said, great is the steadfastness of my son Joseph, in spite of all of his sufferings he has remained constant in his piety.

1:03:28Yay, great are the benefits that the Lord has conferred upon me. He saved me from the hands of Esau, and the hands of Laban, and the Canaanites who pursued after me. I have tasted many joys, I hope to see more, but never did I hope to sit upon, set my eyes upon Joseph again, and now I shall go down to him and behold him before my death. And Jacob and the members of his family put on clothes Joseph had sent, among them a turban for Jacob, and they made all preparations to journey down to Egypt and dwell there with Joseph and his family. Hearing of his good fortune, the kings and grandees of Canaan came up to wait upon Jacob and express sympathy with him in his joy, and he prepared a three-day banquet for them. Jacob, however, would not go down into Egypt without first inquiring whether it be the will of God that he should leave the Holy Land.

1:04:28He said, how can I leave the land of my fathers, the land of my birth, the land in which the shankind dwells, and go into an unclean land inhabited by slaves of the sons of Ham? I land therein there is no fear of God. Then he brought sacrifices in honor of God in the expectation that a divine vision would descend upon him and instruct him whether to go down into Egypt to have Joseph come up to Canaan. He feared the sojourn in Egypt, for he remembered the vision that he had had at Bethel on leaving his father's house, and he said to God, I resemble my father, as he was greatly in—I'm sorry, as he was greedy in feeling his mouth. I was willing to go down into Egypt in consequence of the famine, as my father preferred one son to the other, so have I, favorite son, and therefore I would go into Egypt to see Joseph.

1:05:28But in this I do not resemble my father. He had only himself to provide for, and my house consists of seventy souls, and therefore I am compelled to go down into Egypt, the blessing which my father gave me was not fulfilled in me, but in my son Joseph, whom people serve, and before whom nations bow down. Then the Shinkhina addressed Jacob, calling his name twice in a token of love, and bidding him not to fear the Egyptian slavery there, or foretold for the descendants of Abraham, for God would have the pity upon the sufferings of the children and deliver them from bondage. God furthermore said, I will go down into Egypt with thee, and the Shinkhina accompanied Jacob Tithor, bringing the number of the company in which he entered Egypt up to seventy. But as Jacob entertained fears that his descendants would stay there forever, God gave him the assurance that he would lead him forth together with all the pious that were likened to him.

1:06:36And God also told Jacob that Joseph had remained steadfast in his piety, even in Egypt, and he might dismiss all doubts from his mind on the core, for it was his anxiety of this account that had induced Jacob to consider going down into Egypt. He wanted only to make sure of Joseph's faithfulness, and then return home, but God commanded him to go to Tithor and remain there. Before Jacob left Canaan, he went to Berchipa to hue down the cedars that Abraham had planted there, and take them with him into Egypt. For centuries, these cedars trees remained in the possession of the descendants. They carried them with them when they left Egypt, and they used them in the building of the Tabernacle. Although Joseph had put wagons at the disposal of his brethren for the removal of his family to Canaan to Egypt, they yet carried Jacob upon their arms, for which the purpose they divided themselves into three divisions.

1:07:36One division, after the other, assuming the burden. As a reward for their fateful devotion, God redeemed their descendants from Egypt. Judah was sent on a head by his father to erect a dwelling in Goshen, and also at Beth-Hah-Madrash, that Jacob might sit about instructing his sons at once after his arrival. He charged Judah with the honorable task in order to compensate him for a wrong that he had done him. All the years of Joseph's absence, he had suspected Judah having made way with Rachel's son. How little the suspicion was justified. He realized now when Judah in particular had been ascidious in securing the safety of Benjamin. The other son of Rachel, Jacob, therefore said to Judah, thou hast done a pious, God been deed, and has shown thyself to be a man capable of carrying on negotiations with Joseph.

1:08:37Complete the work thou hast begun, go to Goshen, and together with Joseph prepare all things for our coming. Indeed, continued Jacob. That was the cause of our going down into Egypt, for it was thy suggestion that Joseph was sold as a slave, and also, through thy descendants Israel, will be led forth out of Egypt. When Joseph was informed of the approach of his father, he rejoiced exceedingly, chiefly because his coming would stop the talk of the Egyptians, who were constantly referring to him as the slave that had dominion over them. Now, I thought Joseph, they will see my father and my brethren, and they will be convinced that I am a free-born man of noble stock. In his joy and anticipation of seeing his father, Joseph made ready his chariot with his own hands, without waiting for the servants to minister to him, and his loving action, redounded later to the benefit of the Israelites,

1:09:40for it rendered none effect a Pharaoh's zeal in making ready his chariot himself, with his own hands to pursue after the Israelites. Alright, that is a wrap. We will pick up next time at the arrival. Jacob arrives in Egypt. That was very interesting read this week. It was very, uh...
