For the first time since drafting Austin Matthews back in 2016, the Toronto Maple Leafs played the role of sellers at the NHL trade. Deadline. General manager Brad Tree Living moved three key forwards in the lead up to Friday's cutoff. Nicholas Roy went to the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday. Then on Deadline Day, Bobby McMahon joined the Seattle Kraken and Scott Lafton headed to the Los Angeles Kings. Head coach Craig Barubi called it a tough day of morning skate before facing the Tampa Bay Lightning. He praised the departed players for their roles, strong penalty killing from Roy and Lafton, and McMahon's offensive spark. The team will surely miss them. Austin Matthews admitted it's never fun, losing teammates or sitting out the playoffs. He stressed players must own the situation and handle the noise professionally. Defenseman Oliver Ekman Larson felt relieved to stay put. Ekman Larson still believes in the core group and wants to turn things around next season.
