The mess came to light after a tip from the Metropolitan Police, leading to multiple violations of council improvement notices. Patel was found guilty at Willston Magistrate's Court on March 5, and hit with an 87,000-pound fine, plus a 2,000-pound, victim surcharge, and 2,788 pounds in cost. Local leaders say, this shows their tough approach to landlords who prioritize cash over safety. Local officials praised their team's hard work, and stressed that hefty penalties like this will deter others from similar shortcuts.
