But in the first part of the show, Lamar Jackson sent a warning to NFL defenses and man, is it a terrifying one. So we'll talk about that and what he had to say and just the offense in general, what I kind of expect from it over the course of this season.

2:10So let's just dive right into it. Lamar Jackson, this clip coming from Mad Dog Sports Radio and this is just a snippet of the interview because I think the interview was dropping after I record this. This comes out. So any other Lamar Jackson snippets, we will talk, we'll talk about them over the course of the next handful of shows that we do here on Locked On Ravens, but they put out, I guess, a teaser clip for Lamar Jackson and the interview that they did with him over on series XM, Mad Dog Sports Radio. And it looks like this was Adam Sheen's interview and he was asked Lamar was about what Ravens fans should expect from the offense. So Lamar Jackson was asked about Ravens fans should expect from the offense. And Lamar Jackson said, quote, man, I can't call with this offense everywhere. It's a lot of moving parts with our offense. This guy's flying around a second. I don't want to say I want you to come to me because as far from that, it's everything. Everything you need in an offense play action, drop back run game, the attention, the attention to detail. He's overly preaching that meaning Declan Doyle.

3:12He wants every guy to know what everyone's doing. So he's making everyone's job a lot easier. I just can't wait to showcase it. Then the follow up to Lamar here is what's the offense going to look like in terms of explosive plays. How is it going to take your game through different level? Lamar Jackson said, quote, I can't call until we're out there on the field, but from practice and what I've been seeing on film, I don't believe a defense is prepared for what's in store for them. Man, Lamar is getting me fired up. He's getting me fired up. Come on. I mean, it's so cool to hear that from Lamar and to hear the bind. And we've heard it from him. We know he's bought into this. But like Lamar is feeling confident. You know Lamar is feeling confident with answers like these. And he should be feeling confident in my opinion. Again, like we just kind of have to wait and see. Feels like they have a lot of stuff in store for what we're about to see from them. And it's crazy because I talked about this throughout the course of the preseason where felt like to me, like some of the stuff we saw from Declan Doyle from a play calling perspective, it looked very complex.

4:13And it really just, I mean, it all wasn't all that complex. But like we sort of saw his feel for the game in the preseason, but it is preseason. You're not going to throw your whole playbook out there in the preseason for teams to have. It's just not what teams do. There's still so much junk over there. There's the entire offense to uncover. And with Lamar, there are Kenrizae Flowers, his whole unit itself. And this is not the first time Lamar is revealed that little tidbit about Doyle and the fact that he wants everybody to know everybody else's assignment on the offense aside of the ball. So it's not you just knowing your assignment. You just say, you got to know what this guy's doing, what that guy's doing, what everybody's doing. And that's really tough. But it also, if utilized properly and guys actually do understand it, it's going to take this offense far. It is because that detail is really important. You just have a deeper understanding for the offensive system that you're in. And you know, it's like I assume that he had an answer about Jesse Minter and talked about the details because he did mention Jesse and that and saying, you know, just like he said about with Jesse Minter, but it's an organizational thing right now.

5:17It feels like just how much detail is in there. And you know what I think that there are a lot of teams that have a lot of really complex offense as complex defense as complex playbooks in general. But from the way that Lamar is talking and a lot of other players are talking, a lot of the Revis coaches are talking, it genuinely feels like there is going to be like this extra added layer in some aspects. And maybe we've never even seen before. And that is super exciting to me. But yeah, the play action stuff, I've talked about that forever on this show. I've talked about it for years and years and years and years how they need to be better utilizing that. And you know, some of the dropback stuff that Lamar talked about there, I mean, he's not going to give away all the secrets and the details. Obviously, it's just like you got to, you got to see it on the field to see what's going to go on with it because we're not going to get everything in Lamar Jackson answers. Like, at least I don't want to assume again, I have an listening to the full interview because it's not I am recording this. But, you know, I think that just hearing Lamar in the pure excitement in his voice and, you know, just seeing him talk at the podium and being so excited about what they're learning

6:20and the collaborative effort between the players and the coaches and that's the other thing. It feels like the players feel like they're investing in something and they're invested in something like they are a part of this. They're not just like being told, hey, do this. This is your job. Go do it. And there's no like back and forth. It's just I'm the coach who the player who do this. It doesn't feel like there's that dynamic. Obviously, yes, like the players go out there and perform on the football field, the coaches of the ones that call the plays and you know, like everybody still has their specific roles. I'm not saying that. But, you know, it just it feels like a team, right? Like, it feels legitimately like a team. And again, John Harball was a culture builder, but at some point it just felt like it wasn't it wasn't flying anymore. You know, it got old. And I think that when you bring in a guy like Jesse Mentor who, you know, clearly has a ton of leadership qualities, bringing Declan Doyle who's such a bright young offensive mind, you know, Anthony Weaver is the veteran DC who's not calling plays, but been around

7:23the organization, been around the league for a while. Like it's a, everything about this team right now feels like it's a perfect match. Perfect combination of things. And so you have the offensive firepower to do it. You know, obviously Lamar and Derek Henry are your top two guys, but you know, Zay in there, Mark Andrews in there is your wide receiver one tight end one combo. Mark compounds back and they can keep doing this thing, improved offensive line play. And that's the scary part about this offense. Like, you know, my, my terrifying warning to NFL defense is I know I'm not Lamar Jackson given this. Kevin Oztreicher is a little different. And I'm not doing anything. I'm not going out there and playing with Lamar. But my thing is like, man, the very most often is fine. It doesn't even have to be that good this year to be an upgrade and have this offense fly to high. Is that we've never seen before under deck and oil like there's just a middleing unit. This offensive line is just like 16th in the NFL. I mean, the board is literally on the floor. It's literally on the floor for this offensive line. And if you can protect Lamar Jackson at a middleing pace, if you can open up Russian

8:23laser, Derek Henry at a middleing pace bare minimum, right? Obviously, I'd love to be better. But I'm just saying like bare minimum 16th, middle of the pack, they can do that. Like we're going to see so much more confidence from Lamar and Derek Henry knowing that they can trust the guys in front of them, which obviously felt like an issue last season because they couldn't trust the guys in front of them from the most part. And you know, they're relying on Benghio Wane as a rookie, which I have confidence in Miggio. And like John Simpson who has had some struggles up and down stuff, you know, center competition, they still not solved that, etc, etc. But like, again, I'm expecting to see a lot of quick passing game stuff, a lot of plays develop over time. You know, I think there's going to be an emphasis on the second play, especially with the quarterback like Lamar Jackson, where the initial play call happens, something breaks down. Then, you know, it's like Lamar Jackson free for all there. But it was cool to hear him in these clips just, you know, being so excited about the details, being so excited about making people's jobs easier and you know, having everybody have that advantage.

9:23And of course, you know, him saying he doesn't believe in defense, his preference to store for them. And from the coast, better, better be getting ready, you better be getting ready because Lamar Jackson, he, he's coming for you in week number one. And that's going to set a huge tone. I feel like for the Ravens season. So I'm super pumped, super excited for it. Come to the second part of the show. We'll be diving into what Eric Costa had to say about the Ravens situation cap wise. Actually, I do want to say this one more thing about Lamar and the offense and the warning he sent

12:29before he gets what Eric DeCost had to say. This offense, one of the big things that I've wanted to see from them for a while from a consistency standpoint is personnel, right? Like last handful of years under Todd Monk and some of the personal decisions have been very questionable, right? Feels like there are Ken Riaz men in the game certain situations that needs to be in. Like there was running more things certain times and you know DeCost is not going to call like perfect games every single game, right? Like they're going to be some games where like man DeCost had a great feel for this game. They're going to be other games where like I don't know about that. But you know, it just feels like DeCost has just an understanding of the guys on his roster. That was one of Todd Monk and strengths coming into Baltimore. Like he was able to adapt and learn and all that. You know John Harbobb, obviously I'm sure had some level of a saying game plan like he's the head coach, right? Like duh. But I don't know, it just feels like the collaborative effort between DeCost and LeMarr and Jesse Mentor and whatnot. It just, it feels like it's a very smooth operation and that can mean more than some people think it does, you know?

13:29Because like on the field, how you get to the point of being so dominant, whether it's offensive or defensive, whatever you want to talk about is having an operation and understanding. And again, that's where the relationship building is so important. Why Jesse Mentor, Nathan Doyle and all these coaches and players as well have stressed it so much. And so all that does translate over the football field, like 1000, 1000, 1000%. And that's why I think you're you're hearing so much excitement from LeMarr Jackson, hearing so much confidence from LeMarr Jackson. Kind of like what I said in the first part of the show of like LeMarr feels like he is actually helping building it in real time, right? Instead of just like executing it, he is actively a part of it. Same thing with all the other players as well, it feels like so really cool there. But let's talk about again, Eric Nacosta, he spoke to the media on, on Wednesday, excuse me. And I still don't know if this was planned or not. I have no idea, but it did happen. He talked a lot about a bunch of different situations and, you know, one of the things which I kind of, well, there was a lot, but one of the things I want to talk about here is just the cap situation.

14:34He was asked if there was any flexibility to make moves, maybe trade if it comes down to it and Eric Nacosta, he got real in the Raven situation. And he said, quote, we are in a better shape, I think, than we have been. I think we will have to look at whether we do some cap deals at some point. It just depends right now. We're fine, but you never know with injuries. You never know with all the different things that can happen with incentives and things. I feel like we're in a pretty good spot right now. You have the flexibility to create room if we need to. Like most teams will do it at some point. I would love to have more, but I am happy we have had a lot less. There have been some years we have had a million dollars at this time. Some clubs are there, so I feel pretty good about it. We certainly can do most things that we would like to do. But if we need it, we know how to make more. I want to hear how. I'm like, hey, what did he got in mind? You know, is that any specific restructures or anything along those lines? So, when we look at other Raven salary cap situation right now, we'll just go to go to over the cap. They have the Ravens right now with about 15.6, 15.7 million dollars in cap space overall and

15:40Spotrack. Spotrack has them at like five. So I'm not, I don't know which one of those. Maybe I'll go to let's see if Brian McFarland is our salary cap guy. Let's see if he has anything on his page about it. Uh, doesn't look like it's okay. Oh, here we go. Yes he does. All right. 53 man set Ravens are 10.65 to under. So literally in the middle of five and 15. How about that? That's kind of crazy how that works. The Ryan noting that the Ravens are 10.65 to a million dollars under the cap. And it's the full cap. So 53 plus IR since the rule of 51. So only top 51 cap numbers and next week. Oh, okay. So Brian says this will go down 4.65 millions. And then wants to practice what is assembled. So looks like Spotrack's number is more there because I think that over the caps was top 50. Was it? Top 5th, top 51 was 279. Yeah. Okay. So it looks like that was just the top 51 number 15.

16:42So Ravens have about important to Brian there. 10 million minus 5 million. Guess what? 5 million. So Spotrack kind of had that number correct. It seems like. But still, Eric Costa saying it like is better than only having one million dollars. And I do think that there are going to be some level of moves like that over the course of the season because you know the Ravens are always looking at. And we know that the Ravens are. And especially in years they're competing aggressive during the trade deadline. Not like overly and you know they don't get too reckless or too crazy with it. But the injury factor is real too. Like this is football and knock on wood injuries don't happen. I'm knocking right now. But you know it's inevitable. Like it just is. Guys are going to hurt. It's going to happen. It's a very physical sports. And you know you have to be prepared. And I think part of. Why I liked this off season so much for the Ravens is because they were being proactive instead of reactive this year where I think last season, particularly on the offensive line, it was kind of the opposite. And they really couldn't be reactive because. Everybody needs offensive lineman and nobody's willing to give them up.

17:43And there really wasn't anybody available on the market. But what I mean by proactive instead of reactive is that the Ravens made sure to get the depth now. To get it now. Like you were able to sign it in March and April in June July, whatever maybe like you were able to sign it over the course of the off season when there were still plenty of talented players available. Instead of waiting me like, oh we're going to risk it or we feel good. We want to save money for this, this, this, this. And then guys go down all of a sudden and like, oh we're in the middle of October. And there's like nobody available. Like you don't want to be in that situation. And I'm very glad that the Ravens decided this year. And you know, that's not like the first year. This is not the first time they've done this on the first year they've done this. But it is always better, always better to be proactive. They're reactive because if guys go down right now, even if it's stars, I mean, Lamar Jackson and Kyle Hamilton are the only two who are just like, man, that's tough. And even Kyle, like, you know, we know what this defense is like without Kyle. It's not pretty, but you still have Lamar Jackson. You know, if Lamar goes down, still have Tyler and Joffaniano,

18:46but obviously those guys are not Lamar Jackson. That is bad. But you have guys that can step up. You have depth. You have backups. You have practice squad guys. That's why I was so important. Even just these signings like Javon Gwen, right? Like smaller signings, connections to coaches like DeWayne Ledford. You know, you're going out there and getting guys that you can develop being your system for the whole off season. Not bringing anybody up off the fridge at market. They need to learn the system or whatnot. Like all of that is really important. So I do think Baltimore, even with the five or around five-ish million dollars with everything factored in my practice squad, that seems to be the number. It's not a huge number, but, you know, it's also like, it's going to be very dependent on how the injury situation goes. Because I can sit here and talk with you about how, like, oh, man, well, the Ravens right now would be really cool if they could, you know, maybe get another veteran's high-end and even though they can no sense, because they'd have five tenons. Like maybe they would, oh, maybe another like depth inside line back for something along those lines. Like, there's really not any room on the roster first of all right now.

19:49You know, there's really not. Second of all, like, we're going to have to come back to this in a couple of months and be like, oh, man, are they banged up at this position or that? Because I'm not going to speak into existence. Like, you know, are they going to have certain positions where they just do not have bodies? And do not have the bodies necessary to, you know, be successful. You know, those are all things you've got to figure out. Because I think that, you know, we've seen in the past Baltimore have needs and the Ravens either trade for that need specifically or they'll just go outside the box. Like, you know, when they traded for Rokwan, they needed a wider receiver. Like, inside line back, there wasn't not a need. It was, I'm not going to say it wasn't a need, but it was kind of like third or fourth on my list in terms of where I was on that. I was like, man, wider receiver, wider receiver, wider receiver. And they, they traded for Rokwan's myth. So, you know, it's like those types of situations where you're still being aggressive and making your team better. But sometimes you're going to go for the need that you need.

20:49Other times you're going to go for BPA. Like, even in trades, Ravens can be BPA, which is actually kind of funny when you think about it. But, yeah, I mean, it seems like Eric Neckast is very confident in where the team is right now. I mean, he was very confident. Many of your of Jesse Mentor, Declan Boyle, you know, all the guy is, he talked about the CJA, QA trade and Diego Pounds. And talked about how those are hard trades and not enjoyable trades to make because you keep those players in the practice squad. But, you know, they may not make the active roster. And if you cut the players, you're going to get claimed. You know, you see, he said you find that out. You have a lot of conversations. James will call you. So, you know, if you said, for instance, if we cut CJA, you know, all that New Yorker's going to claim them all that type of stuff. And he also confirmed, by the way, this is the other big point I wanted to make here. And kind of talk about it a little more. And we'll talk about it now and a little bit in the final part of the show that he did confirm that the Ravens did get calls for Joe Fignano. You know, like he was very complimentary Joe Fignano. He said that he first of all, he's called him Cinderella Man apparently the other day.

21:51It's nobody expected Joe to make the team. Frag guy, this that and the other. But, you know, he did end up saying about Joe Fignano himself that like, the trade calls were there. You know, he talked about how is they looked at the roster made sense for them to keep them. And he said, quote, we got a lot of calls from other teams and a lot of people asked about him. And I honestly had trade offers for him. Maybe it is like just the fact that people wanted to trade for him. I'm like, maybe we should just keep him. He just won the job. There were times in the games where you're like, wow, that was a heck of a play. Even with our starters not out there, you played really, or you just played really well under duress versus pressure. Some of you guys were out in Minnesota. You saw his practice. So all that stuff, like he talked about that as well. So I think it's really interesting and really intriguing to kind of talk about, you know, where the Ravens are. Cap wise, roster wise, because they had an abundance of talent, roster wise this year. And, you know, credit to the scouting staff to cost the coaching staff. All these guys for figuring out, you know, these UDF agents and guys that they could keep on the practice squad

22:55and have them move the roster around. So really, really cool stuff overall for sure. But again, like we talked about the Joffaniano trade calls. Just rebeck talked about that on the Baltimore collective. And we had that conversation yesterday morning and it cost us essentially confirming that on Thursday or on Wednesday morning. I mean, my days all mixed up on Wednesday morning or Wednesday afternoon or evening. So, you know, kind of it's cool to like look, even an under after guy. Like his playing so well, we know how important quarterback is for sure. Like into cost dimensioning that as well. A young quarterback like Joffaniano and certain teams want to take a flyer on that guy. And so, you know, the cost just kind of evaluated the value. Whatever he uses value chart or his value process. And, you know, maybe it's signal something more long term. I talked about this over on long term Ravens hit where it's like, maybe Baltimore has a backup quarterback conversation brewing next year. You know, that's counting as an away game. Titans and week four back at home. Falcon's week five on Sunday football in the Browns and week six in Cleveland. I want to stop there because again, that we're going like stretch by stretch. And I talked about this on like the Ravens. I'm talking about it here as well. The Ravens could go undefeated. They could go undefeated in their first six games.

27:00Am I expecting it? No, because again, I just I can't I can't do it. I can't pick them to do that. But I actually might I don't know. I don't know. It's possible. But I mean, Baltimore. They're a really good team and they're going to bounce back in a big way. And you know, Lamar Jackson's comments are there that we talked about further. Sement's that for me, but at the same time, like. These are NFL football teams are not you can't take any of them lightly. The Ravens have had issues in the past, but playing down to competition. Now, hopefully that has gone with John Harball and the Ravens can just dominate. Teams are supposed to dominate. And beat teams are supposed to, you know, have tough tough games with two kind of that situation. But, you know, I think that Baltimore like five and one is kind of like cool. That's awesome. Six and L. Hey, you're living large or living large. But, you know, it'd be disappointing not to go at least foreign to in that stretch. If not, obviously better like five and one or six and L. Because, yeah, obviously have from week seven on a lot of tough games.

28:00First of bangles at the bills, versus jaguars on Thursday night football. First of charges on Monday night football at the Panthers at the Texans. That stretch from week seven, week 13, or week 13 is your by week. I mean, that's the tough stretch. And so you need to be able to take advantage early. So you can say, hey, you know what? That was a really tough game against whoever, right? Since Nadi Buffalo, whoever it is. Oh, man, we dropped that game. Oh, well, we went six and no. So there's cushion. You got to be able to self up a cushion early in the season. If the team is supposed to beat, you can afford to drop one or two later. And it's not going to impact your playoff standing, seeding, standing too much. That's the big strategy here for me. That's the big thing that we just have to continue to talk about here. And, you know, because they haven't done that the last two years. They've started terribly slow, you know, owing to in 2024, one in five in 2025. And, you know, it impacted their seeding or playoff chances in general. Both seasons in a major way, a huge way. Remember 2024, if they'd beaten Buffalo,

29:03or if they had just one more win, they would have gone out. I mean, I know they beat Buffalo and we forward. I'm just saying, like, if they had been able to beat the Raiders, for example, like they probably could have beaten Buffalo in the playoffs because they would have had home field advantage. And then maybe the ball, like all this different stuff, right? So even though they beat the Bills in a week for that year, they lost easy games and are these games that they were supposed to beat the teams in. And it came back to bite them because it meant the Bills got the two seed. The Ravens got the three seasons instead of vice versa. If the Ravens just finished business and build their cushion. So even if even though you beat the team, they aren't losing to, they still had home field advantage over you because of that. And then you end up losing to them in the postseason. 2025 is just, well, say if I didn't happen, we're just saying that. We're just, we're, we're, we're putting in a memo to leave. And you know what, Ravens season 2025 didn't happen. Didn't exist, but all jokes aside, I think that you need to build up that stretch. In week seven through 13, because you got week 14 on where you're playing the bucket

30:04nears and you rounded out with four straight AFC North games. Steelers are going to Acres or Stadium and versus the Browns at home. You get the Bengals on the road on Thursday, football on New Year's Eve and versus dealers at home to round out your season. So again, building the cushion, you win the game. You're supposed to win. You're going to be in a really, really good spot. I think Baltimore, you know, we did a record prediction on the Raven, Lacken Raven Squad show yesterday. And I had him at 13 and four. I've had him at 13 and four for a while. I'm pretty confident in that choice. I, you know, I feel like that's a good number for them where, you know, it's kind of accounting for the fact there'll probably be some early season growing pains. But that's the thing where your schedule is soft enough where it's a nice, nice enough landing spot to where like you are going to still have the ability to win games, even if you are going through growing pains on offense or, or even defense. I don't expect like defense. I think they're just insane. Like I don't expect any problems there. But like when you're when you're growing your offense, but there's still going to be some issues on.

31:05Like it's not going to be perfect. So you got to be able to build that out and hope for the best. And I mean, I think it will be okay for the Ravens. You know, I'm very confident in this team this season. Does it mean they're going to win the Super Bowl? I don't know if it means they are not. But I mean, they're going to have a chance. They're going to be contenders. Like unless just something absolutely catastrophic happens for them this year. And that was what happened last year. I mean, like the offense of mine was awful. They couldn't generate pressure on the defense behind. Guys were injured. Like it was a catastrophic year for Baltimore. Something would have to happen like that again for the Ravens. And I just think they're much. They're better coached. And I think they have a better roster. Like it's just it is what it is. And it's not a suspect to any of the old guys or. You know, what the coach is supposed to ever maybe. But I just I like this iteration better. I do. I like this iteration better. So let's see what happens with it.
