And it was the night before the trade deadline, not Christmas before the trade deadline. And we already have Flurries happening if you get what I mean. Yeah. Well, could be Christmas for some teams who knows others might get the lump of coal and they're stocking. We don't know. It is always, it is always an exciting and interesting time for teams that are buyers and sellers, but also an interesting time as the playoff picture continues to develop. So let's get you caught up on exactly where the teams stand after another night of action. We will start with the Buffalo Sabers against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

3:06This one in Pittsburgh, two of the surprising teams in the NHL also a battle of two second place teams in their divisions in the East coming in. Buffalo was in second place in the Atlantic. Two points back at Tampa Bay for first, also just one point up on Detroit in a potential playoff matchup with the Red Wings. And then Pittsburgh came and holding down second in the metropolitan division. They were tied in points with the Islanders each with 75. And this one Buffalo pretty much took care of business from the start a five one victory for the Sabers. They would pull away in the second period. The team was tied one one scored three straight goals in that middle period. Buffalo also had a pair of short handed goals, one from Ryan McLeod, one from Alex Tuckis 25th of the year. Tase Thompson assisted on that Tuck goal, extending his point streak to a career high nine games. And Uco Peca-Lucan in UPL with a nice game. One goal out on 27 shots, five wins in a row for Buffalo. There are 26, five and two in their last 33 games.

4:08And the 14 year playoff drought is going to end. Could it end with the Sabers winning a division title? They're right there in the mix with Tampa Bay. They haven't won a division title since they took the Northeast division in 2009-10. But Buffalo continues to be one of the really fun great stories. And we'll see what they do with the deadline. They're trying to make some moves. Matter of fact, there's a report that they're going to get Sam Carrick from the Rangers, not a broad question deal. But we're looking to add. That's the Sabers are looking to add and help this team out, but they're going to be a playoff team. It's a great story. It's an incredible story that there is no other way to put it. And you and I have been talking about this over the course of the last couple of months, even going back towards like during the holidays, whereas it seemed like the Sabers were on our hot street where it was like, well, they're hot, you know, this is nice, it's nice. But now here we are at the beginning of March with the standard playoffs just a little

5:14more than a month away. And you're looking at this Sabers team following their impressive win tonight in Pittsburgh over the penguins. And you're like, this is more than just a nice story. This is an enormous story, an enormous big deal for the Buffalo Sabers to even be in this position right now. Not just, you know, a fight if I play as well, they're well entrenched in the Eastern Conference playoff picture right now. And as far as the game was concerned, like the Sabers, they took it to them from the beginning. And even though yes, Buffalo, they scored first, they scored first, they got one nothing, but even then with Pittsburgh responding with Brian Russus 21st goal of the season, Buffalo set in that second period, not where we're going to take over. And they did exactly just that Josh Norris power play goal. Oh, you want another special teams goal? I got another one for you. Alex Tuck, another one, three, one Buffalo. This was a team that dominated the penguins in every facet in this game.

6:18And for me, if you are Sabers, man, this has to be a very special and exciting time because this is a long time coming. And even though yes, you know, we still got what? 21, 22 games roughly around the NHL average until the Stenica playoffs, but it's impossible not to think about the last time the Buffalo Sabers made the Stenica playoffs in 2011. You remember guys like Jason Palminville, Thomas Vannick, Ryan Miller, you know, who was the starting goal tenor for that team? I mean, we're going way back and obviously Tyler and it's a back and go on and on, but you get the point. It's been 15 years. This would be an enormous deal for the National Hockey League should the Sabers and it looks like they are going to ultimately punch your ticket into the Stenica playoffs and what story it will be. I love the Jason Palminville mentioned.

7:18I love Rick Jennerette talking about the mayor of Palminville. That was great. For Pittsburgh, they're still trying to stay at least where they are with Sidney Crosby out of the lineup. 22 and one now since the Olympic break without Sidney Crosby for Pittsburgh. So try to at least not, you know, if they can't gain ground, they're looking to just maintain where they are. So we'll see how that goes. As far as the team that Buffalo is chasing in the Atlantic division, that is the Tampa Bay Lightning. They were in Winnipeg to take on the Jets and you would have thought I should be an easy win for Tampa Bay. It was not as the Jets get a surprising four, one victory, scoreless opening period. Then Winnipeg gets goals from Morgan Barron his ninth and Mark Schipley his 29th. Braden Point would get a power play goal in the third to make it 3-1 his 15th of the year. Next off, Nyquist first goal of the season. And Kyle Conner into an empty net is 28th of the year seals the win as Conner hella buck

8:18the American Olympic star allowed one goal on 27 shots. So Tampa Bay and Buffalo both have 80 points. Now the lightning do have two games in hand on the Sabers, but this could not only be a great story and Buffalo being back in the playoffs, but they're right now in the thick of things for a division title, as I mentioned. 100% and it wouldn't surprise me if Buffalo said, let's make a run for the division. Why stop here? And I don't fault them. They are right there with the Tampa Bay lightning. Now if you asked me back to September during training camp that the Sabers and Lightning will be neck and neck with each other, I'd laugh. I mean, I think everybody would laugh. No way. No way, Jose, but here we are on March 5th going into March 6th. This is the reality and Tampa Bay in this game, as you mentioned, you thought it would be a layup and it was like, no, that's the beauty of the NHL. Anybody can get beaten on any given night and ultimately coming Conner Hella buck was

9:24pretty much Conner Hella buck in this game. But then also, like you got to admire the response from Winnipeg when Tampa Bay cut the lead and have to at two to one with the Brian on braiding point, excuse me on power play goal. It was Gus and I asked Chris who said, all right, time to say good night and score the goal like they made a two goal lead or three to one. So I look at Winnipeg and I say, you know, this was an impressive win. But for Tampa Bay, you know, all you can do is learn from this loss and move forward. But this Eastern confidence race as a whole, but especially between Tampa Bay and Buffalo, keep an eye out for it because it's going to be a lot of fun to watch as we head down in the home stretch. I know there was a report that the Winnipeg Jets were trading a couple of players to Buffalo. I know Logan Stanley, the big defenseman, was in the mix.

10:25Luke Chan, another veteran defenseman apparently going to Buffalo as well from Winnipeg. So Winnipeg helping out the savers in a couple of ways by sending them a couple of veteran defensemen and also knocking off Tampa Bay as well. Nashville looking to gain ground in the West wild card race and also looking to help some of the Eastern conference wild card teams gain some ground as well. 13:30All right, we have the Boston Bruins in Nashville taking on the predators, Boston came in holding the final wild card spot in the east three points up on Columbus. Nashville came in five points out of the final wild card spot in the west. We've also been a team that has been trading of late four players, dealt in the last three days. No major names, but some pieces as Nashville looking to be sellers here. But they're still not giving up yet. They grabbed a one nothing lead in the first period on this one and then had a huge second period with four goals. Matthew Wood would score two of them, number is 11 and 12 for him, one of them coming short handed. Now Boston would score twice in the third to try and make it a game. Morgan Geeky, his 34th of a year, a new career high, but Nashville would close the door with an empty net goal and the predators get a six three win. So Nashville moves three points out of the final wild card spot in the west. And more importantly for all the wild card teams in the east, that leaves the door open

14:32with the Boston loss for teams to gain ground if they could win tonight as well. How do I put this in regards to the loss of bruise without going scorch earth? I don't know how I can. But I will say this in terms of the Bruins. This was a complete dog pooped show in Nashville, especially on the eve of the NHL trade that line and which that let's face it, Don Twini was looking at this team wondering, hmm, if this team worthy of investing in or not. And honestly, after tonight's game, I'm not, I'm not so sure that this team is worthy of investing in, call me crazy, but that second period, and I give Nashville a word of credit, they look absolutely terrific offensive in that second period, Matthew Wood on a shorthand

15:32goal, I mean, credit to the predators, but also an indictment against the Boston Bruins defensively falling asleep on the power play, even though Morgan geeky did score on the power play in the second period. But at the same time, if you are the Bruins, that this game, it basically is one of those painful losses that you're going to look at and say, if the Bruins and I miss in the playoffs, that you're going to look at and say, man, that game, the night before, the trade that line, absolutely ridiculously brutal. That second period is a period that you want to want to forget if you're a Bruins fan. I mean, I'm trying to forget it now talking about it, but it's not happening. But as far as the predators are concerned, the Addison pieces, I like what they did, and especially in tonight's game overall, but one thing that did stand out is that, as you mentioned, they didn't give up, they didn't give up at all, they said, you know, we're going to keep our pedal to the metal, and we're going to keep on putting on pressure, and they

16:33did exactly that. I mentioned, I talked about Matthew Wood, Eric Hollis-Garring, but as well as, you know, Phillip on Foresburg, as the well who scored the power play, go late in the second period as well. But I would say also to that, in conclusion, this was a big game for Matthew Wood, and as well as, like Phillip Foresburg as well, in which that they needed to get offensive production from the big guns like Foresburg and Stamco, but it was also good to see guys like Matthew Wood able to step up as well. All right, with the Bruins losing, a chance for the Columbus Blue Dragons to gain ground they were hosting the Florida Panthers. Jackets came in three points back a Boston for that final wild card spot, also five points back in the Islanders for three plays in the Metro for an automatic playoff spot. No Zach Werenzki in this one out with an illness for Columbus, but it didn't matter to the Blue Dragons. They had a three nothing lead with a goal in each period. Now Florida did try and mount the late comeback with a couple of goals, but not enough Matthew Olivia's second goal, the game into an empty net seals a four to win for the Blue Dragons.

17:37Let's get more on this from the host of Lockdown Columbus Blue Dragons. Jay Forster folks, the Blue Dragons have done it again. They have been the recipient of a goal interference call that has gone their way for three games in a row, which frankly might be the most impressive thing about this little win streak that they've come on here. They win four to over the Florida Panthers, the Panthers tie the game late and the goal gets called back. Blue Dragons get the empty netter and that is all she wrote. They are now I believe six and one on the season when they don't have Zach Werenzki in the lineup, which is honestly maybe the funniest thing about this. Just again, another another great night for the depth scoring. Quite frankly, I'm pro rough, gets a goal his first in a minute. I match with Olivia, get two, even though we know empty net goals don't count. They do right now and just a really solid, a really solid night from a lot of guys. Boone Jenner got his first goal in a while as well. That was the fourth goal or the third goal technically, often incredible pass from Kent

18:39Johnson. It feels like everything is clicking right now. It's stressful. It's not perfect. There's still mistakes being made, but having a lot of fun watching this team, I hope you guys are as well. We're going to break down everything about this win, the good, the bad and the ugly on tomorrow morning's locked on blue jackets. All right. Thanks to Jake Forster for that. So Columbus does gain ground. They're just one point back of the Boston Bruins for the final wall card spot. They snapped a nine game, winless skid against Florida and improved a 13, two and one since bringing in Rick bonus as head coach. I'd see that move is paid off pretty well. And there's a late report that they are picking up Connor Garland in a trade from the Van Cooper connects to help them out as well. That's a big move, getting on Connor Garland, I'm a player of his ill to this, you add them to this Columbus Blue Jackets line up, like you have every reason if you're a Blue Jackets fan to be pretty excited for this move, but I like to move a lot and I agree.

19:39I think this coaching change, you know, hiring Rick bonus has, you know, it's worked out. Okay. But, but like, but in all seriousness, you talk about, I, I've been provoked of stepping up huge in the absence of, I was out the illness and for me, this is, this speaks more of the volumes of, it's pretty much next man up and stepping up like wherever and however you can. And, you know, like, and there's a lot to like between, um, performance tonight, Matthew Aluvier, Olivier performance, a multi goal performance and, you know, like Greves, you know, having, I'm being solid in that for Columbus as well. And, you know, like, this was a huge win for the Columbus Blue Jackets, but as far as the Florida Panthers are concerned, like, this was another loss for this practice team

20:41that it's really looking more and more like that, likely that they're not going to make the playoffs. And, and, um, it's, it's just another, yeah, they're not making the playoffs. That, that was, that's, in fact, a bit of a response is like, as I've heard from a while Eddie. By the way, Sergei Burrowski did not play in this game. Now, they didn't say that they held him out for any roster reasons. There's been a lot of speculation. Would they trade him or not? Something to keep in mind, he did not play in this game. He was just a regular schedule day off. Maybe it wasn't. We'll see. Uh, we also had the Ottawa Senators taken on the Calgary Flames, sends came in six points out of the final Wildcard spot. So with the win, they would gain ground on the Bruins and they would get that win. They fell behind one nothing in the first, but then scored the next four goals, three of them in the third period. They get the four one road win. Let's get more on this from one of the hosts of Lockdown Ottawa Senators. It's Brandon Piller. A little more stressful than it should have been, but the Ottawa Senators still take care of business with the four one win over the Calgary Flames.

21:42I'm Brandon Piller from the Lockdown Senators podcast. And this one was two one coming right down to it, but the Sen's tack on two empty net goals, including one from Tim Stutzle, his point streak stays alive, and the Sen's dominated the flames for the second half of this game, out shooting them 37 to 20. Devon Cooley was on his game, but it was a Dylan Cousins power play goal that ultimately gets it done. And now the Sen's are just four points out of a playoff spot and in good position leading into the trade deadline tomorrow. They shipped out David Peron, and then they brought in Warren Fogel.

22:43So interesting there come one veteran comes out one veteran comes in, not sure what to make of all that, but obviously a much needed win for Ottawa. But definitely is a huge win for the Ottawa Senators in which that, you know, like they needed to get this win in order to, you know, just the key pigs in the season coffins wildcard chase, you know, and the thing I think for Ottawa is that it was absolutely huge for them to extend their their point street to five games. But Dylan Cousins is for sure the hero in this one for the Ottawa Senators going to go ahead. Power play go a 633 of the third period. But then also on that to be forgotten about Tim Stutzler, who, who was absolutely critical of in this game for, like for the Ottawa Senators as well, and, and, and I, and I also think that for Ottawa, like if they are going to continue to, to keep pace, they're going to need to continue to, to, to, like, to get, like, nightly contributions from up and down the

23:46line up and as well as, but Linus Omar to, on, to continue to play well and stand on his head as well. All right. We told you that the Bruins lost and that meant the flyers had a chance to gain some ground in the east and the Kings were looking to gain ground in the west. All right. We had the Utah mammoth taking on the Philadelphia flyers in Philadelphia. Utah came in as the number one wild card team in the West Philadelphia six points out of the final wild card spot in the East and it would be a three nothing shut out victory for Utah. Let's get a report. We don't hear from him very often from Tom Callahan. He is the host of locked on Utah mammoth. Free nothing. A big win in the bag for the Utah mammoth over the Philadelphia flyers dealing. Gunther out a couple of helpers in the one schmaltz Keller and Carconey with an empty netter. I tell you what, this is a game and a team. The mammoth had to put away and they came out flying and they did. Even though the first period, only four shots a piece in the first period, it felt like

26:51the mammoth deserved more scoring chances if not a puck in the net. Also, can we please appreciate VTEC Vanitech's performance side? He was phenomenal. Made some of the best saves I've seen to make all year. You guys know you every day or is know that I love VTEC Vanitech and I think his record is undeserved. He got the run support tonight, which was absolutely fantastic, great to see. The mammoth coming out, getting a couple of goals. The power play is rolling as well. So even without McKenzie-Wieger, as yet to arrive, the mammoth improved to 2-0 on this road trip. And next up, they've got a huge weekend contest coming up against Columbus. All right. Thanks to Tom Callahan for that. Good to hear from him. Hope to hear from him more often. As Utah is looking to make a playoff appearance for the first time as the Utah mammoth and they get a shut-out victory in Philadelphia. It was a huge win for the Utah mammoth in which that first period, it was a sluice fest. I mean, by the end of the first period, both teams had, there were pretty much even

27:53in terms of the shots on goal for a piece. But what impressed me in this game in terms of the Utah mammoth was that from the beginning, they were the ones who dictated pace. They were the ones who forced the issue. That's what a flyers themselves. The thing that surprised me was just how I don't even want to say lethargic. But the fact that the effort just wasn't there, I mean, Rick Talk had pretty much called out the team after the game tonight. And it was just like, where was the effort in that second period, Utah really made sure that day to really force the game and the type of game that they wanted to play against the flyers in the next match with the power play goal that made it a one-nothing mammoth. But from that point on, it was as if at the damn broke where offensively, the flyers couldn't get anything going.

28:54The power play as usual, they were nowhere to be seen. So ultimately, the Utah mammoths, like they ended up, you know, like not only did they play it their game, they dictated a piece of game, but also as they ultimately were able to win and maintain their position as a first wildcard team in the West. Utah now three points up on Seattle for that number one wildcard spot for Philadelphia. Still six points out of that final wildcard spot in the East. We had the New York Islanders out in Los Angeles to take on my LA Kings. New York came in tied with Pittsburgh for second on the Metropolitan Division. LA came in five points out of the final wildcard spot in the West. Kings would jump out to a three-nothing lead with a dominant first period and root to a five-three victory first win for new Kingshead coach, DJ Smith, who took over for the fired Jim Hiller. Artemi Panarin gets his first goal as an LA King as 20th of the year. Adrian Kempay adds his 23rd. And Anjay Kumpattar played in his 1500th NHL game.

29:54He's a 25th player ever to do that fifth player to do it all with the same franchise and he gets an assist moving in five points away from becoming the King's all-time leading score passing Marcel Dionne. The King's due game ground in that West wildcard so there are three points back in Seattle for wildcard spot for the Islanders. They stayed tied with Pittsburgh for that second spot in the Metro. Congratulations, Anjay Kumpattar, on career gain number 1500 and to do all those games and play all those games for one team is incredible, absolutely outstanding. As far as the game itself, I mean, Eddie, you got to really like what you've seen from Artemi Panarin as an LA King so far, even though it's a small sample size, but does that happen in fact that he's brought on five and five for the Kings. At least for me, it's been very much noticeable. It was noticeable again tonight and as well as for the mere fact that like the Kings, they

30:55really were like intentional about number one, you know, yes, having a much better power play, which they did this going to power play tonight. Alex Laferrierex going to power play, going in the third period, but as well as just making sure that they were able to make the time he stops in and so forth. So I do think that this was a good win for the Kings on and for the Islanders, you know, who just came up just a little bit short, like I think Patrick was set at best on the SPM broadcast where he wasn't surprised by the Kings coming out strong to start the game. So he expected, you know, to see this type of effort from the onset of the Kings. By the way, it's worth a mention. The Kings were up three goals in the third with eight and a half minutes to go and Patrick while pulled the goalie and they did get a goal out of it late. The Kings had eight and a half minutes of shooting at an empty net and they did not get

31:55an empty net goal. So J Forster who said earlier, empty net goals don't count. They absolutely count. They do. The Kings are one of the worst teams in the league at scoring into an empty net. I don't know why, but again, eight and a half minutes of no goalie and the Kings did not score an empty net goal. They had a few chances. Didn't do it. So I, I'm not complaining. They want. But as far as the Rangers are concerned, like this was like this was a nice win like going into the trade that line tomorrow, like who knows whether if Vincent Trochek well, in fact, still be a ranger when it's all said and done.
