5:13for people who missed them. I said, Mike, you know, Ryan Walker walked the lead off guy, gave up a two run bomb, got away with a pitch that Fernando Tetees didn't challenge but did get the save. And you have this cute up here. Tony, what did Mike think of it all? Well, that's an issue. I don't think he's comfortable with that spot. And I think that because of how big it was to the team to his manager, I think that, you know, he pressed, if you look at him, and, you know, he's really unique because of his big crossover steps. He's only got two pictures, a two-seat basketball and slide it. Here it is. When he's effective, he's able to hit corners, and he's able to establish knee-high location very, very quickly. When he's not comfortable, he'll miss high. And then, you know, he's got sling, and he's got push and his delivery, and he just, he's not letting it go. And, and that's what I saw last night. Yeah. I mean, you saw it too, dude. He did not have command last night. No. I mean, from the first

6:14four pitches of the ninth inning, I said, ooh, something's off. And Mike's absolutely right. We've talked about this before. With that crossfire action, his mechanics have to be dialed in every single time he touches that rubber because they don't teach guys a pitch like that. To throw across your body, the way his arm angle, his hips, like getting everything unlocked with his lower half to be in tune with his upper half, like he has to be dialed in mechanically. Then we get to the part where he has to also be dialed in mentally. And that's something that we talked a lot about with Ryan Walker this all season, finding a new mental coach, his background in faith and trying to become more stable in that ninth inning because this is a high-pressure situation. We talk about it all the time. The last three outs in baseball are the hardest three outs to get. And there were seven different chances last year where he blew games and 17 save opportunities. He had seven blown saves. So you know that's in the back of his head from last year. Yeah. He had over a 4.11 ERA in those safe situations last year, seven blown saves and 17

7:16opportunities. So that's in the back of his mind. As he's out there trying to get his manager, his first big league win. There's a lot going on with Ryan Walker. So if he's not in sync with everything from his mechanics to his mentors, there's going to be problems in that ninth inning. Should we have more sympathy for him? Tanner Scott blew 10 last year. Ryan, Hellsley, Blue 9, Greg Weissert, Blue 9, Jeff Hoffman, Blue 7, Kyle Finnegan, Blue 7, Reed Garrett, Blue 7, Will Vest, Blue 7, Andres Munoz, Blue 7, Dylan Lee, Blue 7, Steven Wilson, Blue 7, Carlos Vargas, Blue 7, Robert Garcia, Blue 7, and Orion Kirkering, Blue 7. But Mike Kruco said, I followed up and said, Mike, do you consider this then an open job going forward? I think it's up for grabs because he can't go out there and expect to do well, pitching like he did last night. He got by. He got lucky.

8:17And, you know, he has a lot to say, a lot to say about getting it done, which he did. But as they go forth, I think that, you know, it's it's up for grabs. He can't go out there and pitch like he did last night and expect to hold that that job down. Especially when you saw a key win go out there and and just be dominant and strike three guys out in a row. And this is the thing about it. You know, it's it's volatile. Rolls change. You you cannot be stubborn. If you're Tony Vitello or or if you're the pitching coach that you insist this guy is going to go out there no matter what. He hasn't earned that. So right now, he next time he goes back out there and he'll be out there again tonight. If there's a safe situation, he has to do it in a more convincing way. And that's just baseball. Yep. 10:23good. Good. How's the I think only covered one owner's meeting. And it felt like a wax museum come to life. Like because the door would open and out walked Al Davis and out walked like, you know, Jerry Jones and out walked like throwing a Ralph Wilson from Buffalo, tottering his, you know, sputtering out of there. You know, you're like, hey, these are all the guys I see on TV, right? What's it like for you? Yeah, it's Matt Barrows rubbing elbows with the the marrows and the runies and all the the great families of the NFL. And they have a party one night of the week, Murph, where, you know, the media, as you can believe this are treated just as well as everyone else. And so there's a lot of mingling that goes on, you know, it's an off-the-record situation. But yeah, it's nice to be treated not like the enemy or not like some children who have kind of stolen into the yard and need to be ruffled up and moved to a different place.

11:25So that's nice. And I can report that here's a little bit of intrigue that you're that your listeners might be interested in, you know, trying to wait on Kyle Shanahan all night so that you can have a little impromptu talk with him, maybe get some some details, some nuggets that, you know, aren't on the record. But we couldn't get to him because he was having a long, long dinner with commanders general manager Adam Peters. So I don't know what that means. It could be just two two old chums catching up. Or it could mean that this brand and IUK situation might be finally reaching its terminus. Now Matt, that was the first thing that I thought of too when you just mentioned that. A potential brand and IUK trade. But I also want to ask you about the comments yesterday from Jed York about maybe seeing Brennan and IUK back in a 49er jersey. Do you think

12:29it's more or less likely we see Brennan and IUK traded or back with the 49ers next year? Created for sure. And I don't really even think that Brennan and IUK back with the 49ers is is real. I think this is all part of them trying to trade him. I just can't see that happening from several different perspectives, financial and cultural more to the point. I mean, I remember what happened with the Von Dre Campbell in 2024 when he walked off the field and basically acquitted the team. I mean, I've never seen, you know, a team, the coaching staff, the players George Kittle kind of revolved against something like that as strongly. And this was similar. I mean, the guy just stopped coming in for his rehab. So I just don't see that happening. I don't think that Kyle Shanahan, I don't think John Lynch won him back. I'm not sure why Jed York floated that.

13:35Again, it might be all kind of geared toward getting something in return after, you know, they spent so much money and used so much resources on him. They haven't gotten anything out of him for the last year and a half. So I think that's that's what it's all about. Matt Barrows is a voice you hear from the athletic nice to hear that they're treating him well at the owner's meeting, which is surprising, Matt, because I've been told the press is the enemy of the people. I've been told that many, many, many, many, many, many times. So I'm very surprised to hear that, I just had to say that, Matt, I had to get off my chest. Hey, buddy, are you there? Are you there? I am. I'm here. There's a little tear going down my cheek as you're saying that. Okay. So there's a lot going on here. John Lynch, let's start chronologically, because we, you know, Sunday, John Lynch talked about the substation. Now he provided no report and no names. So I don't know. I mean, we all kind of thought the substation seemed like a wacky theory.

14:37And so, you know, if you're a trusting person, you will say, okay, the 49ers did their due diligence. But if you're a cynic, you'd be like, wait a minute, who's the scientist and what's the report? And I don't know. What do you make of the upshot of the substation, quote, nothing burger? Well, maybe the tactic is to fight bad science with bad science, and it all can't fool each other out. I believe them, you're right. They did not offer a name or a company or anything like that. You know, they obviously were ready to discuss this report and call it a nothing burger, but they should have worked out something with the scientist so that we could double check it and actually talk to the guy and they're like, well, we need to ask him first whether to release his name. So that apparently is in the works, but it hasn't happened yet. And so, you're right. When that's the case, they still have an element of doubt. They could have gotten

15:39one of their equipment managers to kind of walk through the facility and take different readings. So until we figure out the level of the expertise, you're right. I think you have to have a level of skepticism. That's what we do in journalists. We create problems and we ask really annoying questions and we're not convinced all the time. But I do believe ultimately that that report is correct. This has not been sort of a new phenomenon. These electrical substations have been studied a lot. There's a lot of science on it because they're in neighborhoods and they're concerned parents about their children and cancer clusters and things like that. So there's been a lot of work that's been done. And so what the 49ers said is in keeping with all the years and

16:42years of research that's been done about facilities like that one. The 49ers are still looking for a solution on the substation and they're still looking for a solution on the Trent Williams Conject situation. Matt, what can you tell us about the latest breakdown and takeaways you got from here? And John Lynch, speak about that situation earlier this week. I mean, John Lynch seemed to think that a deal is in the office. Now he was equally abulliant a month ago at the scouting combine and nothing happened in the month after that. So again, you have to take it with a grain of salt. But you know, the verbiage he used, I mean, usually these guys are very careful with what they say until the contract is actually ratified. Like even after they strike a deal, they say, well, you know, the ink's not on the paper quite yet. So we'll have to wait. But Lynch's, you know, like I said, his verbiage seemed to indicate that he thought that they were very close to that a deal was in the offing. So, you know, again,

17:45there's no there's no pressure points to this. There's no deadline. The 49ers are not in any sort of cap straits at this point. They got plenty of cap room. Even after the draft, when they have to sign their draft picks, they'll have plenty of cap room. So I don't know what that means as far as just finalizing the deal, having Trent Williams in camp, et cetera, et cetera. But it doesn't seem to be a lot of worry from the 49ers perspective. And that's sort of reflected in the business that they've done this spring. They did they did sign a couple of backup offensive linemen. Brett Toath is an interior guy. Viterian low is more of a swing tackle guy. But those were those were openings at those spots at those backup spots. It's not as if they are preparing for life without Trent Williams. Matt Barrow's a voice you hear from the owner's meetings in Phoenix, Arizona. We talked a little about the sub station by the 408 with a great text of the 49ers should lean in

We talk Trent Williams there and a little bit about Brandon IU is Christian McCaffrey and Kyle famous last words, quote, in order for us to be the running team, we want to be in order to have Christian be as good as he can be throughout the whole year. We've got to get someone to help him. Cause he and I said, now while we were sleeping, Brian Robinson slipped away. He went to Atlanta signed with the BB John Robinson's backup. So right now it's Christian McCaffrey Jordan James Isaac Grindo and Patrick Taylor Jr. I don't know. I mean, is this are you believing Christian? He can't, I mean, Kyle, he can't quit Christian. It's broke back running back. He can't quit him. What's your thought? Yeah, that's my thought. And I think that Brian Robinson agrees with us. Brian Robinson decided he would rather be the backup to be on Robinson. Like be

19:50on Robinson's like the best young back in the league. He can do everything. He catches passes out of the backfield. He's a great runner, et cetera, et cetera. Brian Robinson would rather be that guy's backup than Christian McCaffrey who he's turning 30, but you know, has this track record of never coming out of the game. And I think that Brian Robinson would agree with your broke back tail back tail back mountain. We'll call it analogies that it's very, very hard. Not just for Kyle Shanahan, but for Bobby Turner, who's really the guy responsible for bringing these guys in and out of the lineup to take him out. Bobby Turner's an old school guy. I mean, he was, he was running through all Davis, you know, 30, 40 times the game and back in Denver two decades ago. I thought that Kyle Shanahan gave a scenario yesterday where, you know, as a play caller, he's not just

20:53always concentrating on the play at hand. He's setting things up. And so he's thinking several plays in advance. And so sometimes he has to play in mind. And he eventually gets to that play and lo and behold, Bobby Turner has dutifully taken Christian McCaffrey off the field. But Kyle is counting on Christian to be out there. So it just kind of explains that, that dynamic, that even if the running back coach who likes to go with a hot hand takes the guy out, the play caller, Kyle Shanahan, is designing plays in his head that rely on a dynamic tailback like Christian McCaffrey. I mean, you know, go get one in the draft. I mean, you've mentioned him before and I watched a ton of Navy football this year. This kid, Eli Heidenreich, now I don't know, you know, I think there's a new rule that you can play and then do your service later. He's tinier, but he's, I watched a lot. He was like a little baby CMC. I don't know if they get, there's,

21:56I just kind of did a quick Google search. I mean, Jeremiah Love, they're not getting him. Jonah Coleman is mentioned, Jadarian Price is mentioned. These are guys who have past catching, but I guess it's a long way of asking. Do you think they'd go get a CMC type in the draft? I think that they really liked Gordon James, a guy that we seldom saw last year. I think he was a, was a fourth round or fifth rounder out of Oregon. Got hurt early, you know, the story. Once you get hurt early in the season, you fall behind, but I think that they liked the way that he practiced. And again, Bobby Turner is old school. You've got to earn it with Bobby Turner. And I think the takeaway is that by the end of the season, Gordon James had earned it. And so was, you know, they felt good about where he was. Now, having said that, I'm so glad that you brought up Eli Heidenreich because he's like a third day draft crush for me. And Muriff, we could come up with all sorts

22:59of great nicknames for him. CMC, he's going to be in the Marine Corps when he, when he has to do his service. So CMC, UMC United States Marine Corps, that sort of thing. U-S-C-M-C. Yeah. U-S-C-M-C. There he is. We did it. We could sell tickets at our, our sandwich shop next to the sub station. I'm going to order the U-S-C-M-C sub. There it is. But he's not serving on subs. He's serving in Marines. Yes. I mean, to me, he's, they've got, what, four fourth round picks. To me, he's a fourth round guy. And, you know, he's going to be a special team's demon. So, you know, you know, you're getting usage out of him even as a rookie. But yeah, he looks a little like CMC. I don't think he's as fast as Christian McCapley was coming out of Stanford, but catches the ball, runs the ball. And it did really well in his, I think he was at the Shrine Bowl, but really kind of distinguished himself there this winter. So yeah, he would be a, a wonderful

24:04pick. Maybe that's their last pick in the draft. Yeah. I know. And now that we've said it, it won't happen. So, uh, then last one, uh, Maddie, uh, head and out here is, uh, is the Jed York stuff. I mean, you know, what did you take away? It seems like from my perspective, and I've been through the ups and downs with Jed through the years, he really seems to be maturing into a different place now to the point where he's so trusting of Kyle and John that he didn't know they were signing Christian Kirk. He found out on a plane as he was winging it to Europe. So, uh, what did you take away from the Jed conversation? Yeah, I think exactly that that, um, you know, we're going into year 10 of Lynch Shanahan. And in the NFL, that's an eternity. Um, you know, the wall shouldn't last much more than 10 years. Uh, head coaches really do that. And, and head coaches and GMs who have never won a Super Bowl is that's unheard of. But I don't, I don't get any sense that the clock is ticking

25:07or, um, Jed York is getting impatient with this group. I think he's really, really happy. Uh, he was really happy in 2017 when they came on board. And, uh, here we are, um, you know, almost 10 years later. And he's still at that level. I think that, you know, this, this past season, despite all the, the injuries and the way that, uh, that the team performed, uh, kind of bolstered that idea. Um, you know, I do think that they, they need to, to, to get some hits. Um, they, they had some great graphs in 2017 and 2018 in that they got guys who are kind of whole fame caliber in, uh, George Kittle and, and Fred Warner and, you know, in 22, they got, they're starting quarterback. They haven't, it doesn't seem as if they've found, uh, that difference maker in recent drafts. There was some, some nice picks, but, um, they need to,

26:07they need to get back to their ways of just nailing guys. Uh, the Rams have been doing that. Pukinakua, uh, Kyron Williams, uh, they're, they're two edge rushers. They've done a better job drafting than the 49ers have. And I think that's, that's reflected in, um, you know, how these teams have performed. I think you could say the same thing about the Seattle Seahawks. It's, it's, it's a, it's a shame for the 49ers sake that, you know, two of the best organizations in the league right now are, are both in their division. So, um, they have to keep up with the Joneses and, and that means I think coming away with this draft with two or two guys that, you know, are not just starters, but are special. Um, and, and that's, uh, that's got to be their challenge. Three weeks from Thursday.
