King Charles Meets First Nations, Warns of Separatist Threat

They warned that it threatened century-old treaties between indigenous groups and the crown. The king expressed concern and showed strong interest in their message. The chief asked Charles to issue a royal proclamation affirming those treaty rights. He committed to learning more and asked plenty of questions during the discussion. This comes as Alberta separatists push for a referendum on leaving Canada, aiming for a vote in October. First Nations leaders in Alberta strongly oppose the idea. They argue separation can't happen without their consent, as it would violate treaties protected by Canada's constitution. One group, the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation, has sued the Alberta government over the petition drive. The separatists, led by the Alberta Prosperity Project, need to collect 177,732 valid signatures
