Hello, hello, welcome to Kim and Friends, where we laugh through the chaos, cry whenever the hell we feel like it, and always keep it real. Because as women, the conversations we have and the stories we share behind closed doors need to be heard out in the wild. I'm Kim, and I appreciate you taking the time to listen today. I really hope something resonates with you. A break. Two classes behind me, two more to go, and I have the privilege to move my body in the calm between the chaos. The mid-day lighting, as the sun streams through the front of the studio and meets the darkness of the weight floor. I lift in silhouette. The same silhouette I watch all of you in during class multiple times a week. And I look at all of your bodies, so many unique
shapes and sizes, like thumb prints, each with our own physical strengths and weaknesses. But though I look at your bodies, eyeing discrepancies with your form, offering my expertise where I can, adjusting a neck, a shoulder, a hip, a knee, an ankle. I hand you a heavier weight to challenge you, or encourage you to scale back, slow down, and allow your mind to connect with the movement and the muscles you are working. What I see is your heart, your soul, your tenderness. It goes beyond the strength of your bodies. It originates from the strength of your being, your aura, your lived experience, and what drives you to become stronger. What brought you here? What has happened to you in every moment leading up to this workout, this set, this rep? This is what I think about as I lift alone in the quiet of the studio, as I move in silhouette,
the same way that you do. It is a long time member who took her first class with me, who has been traveling back and forth to care for and spend time with her best friend who is fighting an ongoing battle with cancer. The hug I gave to the father who was returning to class for the first time in a while, whose own daughter, who also comes into class, is in the beginning stages of her own cancer diagnosis, and grappling with what that will look like for her, and how this father can best support her. My heart goes out to the cross-regional who has been in our studio longer than she anticipated, because her mother unexpectedly passed away. My mind wanders to my longtime friend and client. She knew me before I had babies, before I was married. She is a fierce, strong woman who told me she signed up for the most recent challenge because she is incensed, angered, and terrified for the state of our nation. She is more motivated than ever to get not just strong, but strong as fuck, so she can fight in
the revolution. To the new member who broke out in tears as I adjusted her on the TRX strap, because it brought up childhood trauma. You are safe with me. Please keep coming back. I see you, and I will always admire you for your vulnerability and for trusting me with your story. And I celebrate the strength class, who heard me say for probably the thousandth time, sharing is caring. What we are not going to do is lift lighter because we are being polite. There are enough heavyweights for all of us. The heaviest dumbbells stayed in the center of the floor, and you all organically began to move freely from your assigned stations, taking your turn, or resting until they were available. It was magical. We talk about training our physical hearts. We discuss the science of moving through our zones, the importance of intentionally elevating and decreasing our heart rates to breed longevity
and quality of life. But I can see so clearly how interchangeably woven together our physical heart is with our metaphorical one. The ones we may not hear are seabedding, but I do. I can hear and see them beat so clearly in each of you. And the metaphysical beat I hear makes beautiful music with the literal one. It is every bit as real and valid and important to our presence on this planet and what sort of quality our life will hold while we are here and long after. I work out from a place of deep gratitude to each of you for spending your very valuable and finite time with me, for trusting me, for moving with me. This is what community looks like. This is heart straw. Warning, the following Zippercruder radio spot you are about to hear is going to be filled with F words.
