Otega Owe delivered the heroics, first tying the score at 70 with a layup, nine seconds from the end, then draining a buzzer beating, three-pointer, to force the extra period after Santa Clara grabbed a short-lived lead. Allen Graves had just hit a three for the Broncos, putting them up 73-70 with two seconds left. Santa Clara coach Erb Sendeck signaled for a time-out right away to set his defense, but the referees were looking the other way and never saw the call. Kentucky took the inbound pass and Owe fired from deep to even it up. Sendeck maintains he called it clearly and says video backs him up, showing his arms waving urgently. Still, by the time officials turned, the ball was already in play for the Wildcats. Kentucky took control in overtime, outscoring Santa Clara 16-11 to advance and keep their March madness run going strong.
