Kentucky Basketball: Pope's Offseason Plan

Only two key rotational players, Otega Oway and Denzel Aberdeen, are definitely heading out. They led the Wildcats in scoring during the 2025-26 campaign, so replacing their production won't be simple. Both plans to prioritize keeping the rest of the team intact before looking elsewhere. That starts with first-year center Malachai Moreno, first-year power forward, Andrea Gellavic and sophomore guard Colin Chandler, who were among the top scorers this year. Jaden Quaintance, the 6 foot 10 big man projected as a first-round NBA draft pick, is likely to leave 2 despite limited play from injury, recovery. The roster still has plenty of talent eligible to return, including Junior's Mo D U Bay and Brandon Garrison, freshman like Jasper Johnson and others, such as Cam Williams, Trent Noah and Jalen Low.

But in today's transfer portal and name, image and likeness world, nothing is certain until those talks heat up next week. Hope will need to hit the transfer portal hard for star power to boost beyond this year's 7-seed finish, especially with no high-school recruits. Committed yet, retention forms the core of his off-season strategy after a disappointing campaign. Expect those conversations to ramp up soon, as Pope aims to get the Wildcats back on track for 20-26-27.
