His Dawson's Creek co-star is Katie Holmes in Joshua Jackson, both 47, are hard-broken and turning to each other for comfort during this tough time. The news came from his widow, Kimberly, who shared it after his stage three diagnosis 15 months earlier. Vanderbeek starred in the popular teen drama from 1998 to 2003 alongside Holmes and Jackson. Insiders say the pair cannot believe it, calling him the greatest guy in a huge loss for everyone, especially his six kids and wife. He battled hard, and it seemed for a while like he might pull through. Holmes and Jackson have stayed close over the years. Jackson even appears in her new film trilogy called Happy Hours, and they talk often. Katie is taking the lead on a special video tribute, with memories from the cast to honor James.
