Three Kansas City area high school teams just dominated a national competition in culinary arts and restaurant management. Herndon Career Center in Missouri took first place out of 48 teams in culinary. Blue Valley West High School in Kansas grabbed first in the management category, also out of 48 squads. Ole if the culinary academy rounded it out with a solid fifth in culinary. This was the pro-start invitational in Baltimore, where top teams from across the country battle after winning state rounds. Judges from the industry and colleges score them on menu planning, cost control, knife work, cooking methods, and pitching restaurant ideas. Lisa Graham, director of Kansas Pro-Start, called the performance incredible and shouted out teachers Danielle Maye from Blue Valley West, plus Philip. Shaw and Erica McIntyre from Ole if for prepping the kids right. Missouri's pro-star program is huge, ranking third nationally with over 103 schools and more than 6,000 students.

The region has a track record here, snagging national culinary titles back in 2009, 2010, 2012, 2000, 15, and 2018. These wins keep the Kansas City Hospitality Pipeline flowing strong.
