Kangaroos Killed in Suspected Hit-and-Runs

Seven Eastern Grey Kangaroos turned up dead near Lake McCory, South of Newcastle, in what looks like delivered vehicle attacks. Animal rescuers spotted tire tracks that climbed the curb right by the bodies, pointing to someone intentionally leaving the road to hit them. Police have launched an investigation into the suspected hit and runs. The first four Kangaroos were found Tuesday morning close to Waii Point Reserve, and three more showed up on a nearby street Wednesday. Wildlife experts from the rescue group, wires rushed to the scenes and called it a heartbreaking loss for the local mob. Residents have grown used to seeing these Kangaroos hopping around the reserve and streets in recent years, as dozens have settled in the area. One tragic detail was a tiny Joey pulled from his dead mother's pouch, but sadly it passed away overnight, despite early hopes. Rescuers noted that Joey had bumps and bruises, but seemed okay at first, needing round the clock care every two hours.
