Jury Selection Begins in Aniah Blanchard Murder Trial

0:00In Birmingham today, March 2nd, jury selection kicked off Monday morning in the capital murder trial of Ibrahim Yazeed in Macon County, Alabama. He's accused of kidnapping and killing 19-year-old Anaya Blanchard back in October of 2019. The process started at 9am at the Tuskegee Municipal Complex with over 100 potential jurors showing up. Prosecutors say Yazeed grabbed Blanchard from a gas station in Auburn before she was killed. Her remains turned up weeks later on a rural road in Macon County. He's facing three counts of capital murder, but has pleaded not guilty to everything. The case has drawn a lot of attention over the years, which came up right away in court. The judge asked the whole group if anyone had seen media coverage on Anaya's story. Forty-seven people stood up, and lawyers from both sides questioned them one by one to check for bias.
