John Rhys Plumlee's NFL Journey: Fringe Roster Grind

0:00On April 28th, Pittsburgh Steelers just released John Reese Plumley, their 25-year-old quarterback turned wide receiver from the practice, Squad. He signed on as an undrafted free agent after the 2024 NFL draft, working as the fourth string QB during camp and preseason while, testing out a receiver and return spots. Earlier this week, the team let him go after he rejoined late in the 2025 season. Plumley bounced between squas like the Jaguars and Seahawks in between, even switching full time to wide receiver just to stick on a roster. Fans and analysts see this as no big surprise since he never suited up for a regular season game with Pittsburgh. His college days at Ole Miss showed his versatility, playing both quarterback and receiver on the football field, plus center field and baseball before, transferring to UCF to lead as a starter.
